  1. Our ship is in port from 8am-5pm and we've booked the railway tour from 8.30am-11.30am. Can anybody recommend a beach close to the port where we could spend the afternoon? Somewhere with loungers and umbrellas preferably! Last time we went to Carambola and had a great day but we had the full day and would prefer somewhere closer to the ship, just in case

  2. Yes, a couple we met on the Legend had a virtual balcony. They let a lot of us see their stateroom. Their stateroom was on port side. I can't remember what deck. It wasn't far from the elevators. Their virtual balcony looked like you had were out on the port side of the ship. Also, we have seen on the Navigator ones that either had a bow or a stern view.

Royal Caribbean tweeted me to say only Navigator has virtual balconies at the moment...

  3. The Freedom is undergoing a major dry dock Jan. 2015. There will be more staterooms being built on the bow of the ship. There will be lots of changes. It will have a Sabor Mexican Restaurant like the Navigator. Also, Giovanni's Restaurant will take the place of Portofino's Restaurant. They will have an Izumi's Restaurant. Everything from the MDR, the public areas, and the staterooms will be redone. Think Navigator of the Seas. A lot of the dry dock changes they did on the Navigator are being done to the Freedom. Also, they will have several virtual balcony staterooms. Those are "wow" on the Legend and the Navigator.

    Does Legend definitely have them?

  5. You need to call your TA back.

This sale is a two part sale. It is 10% off the cruise fare AND a 200 OBC for regular staterooms.

Or....is the $252 actually the 10% discount and you will also get the $200 OBC.

If you did receive the 10% off and the C&A discount then great you received he best deal.

I suspect though that you did not receive the 10% off and only receive C&A discount. If this is what happened you would be better off declining the C&A discount so that you would get the lower OBC of $200 but also get the 10% off.

Hmm thanks for that - our cruise fare is 1400ish per person so 10%off is $280 and the OBC is $200 so total saving of $480 but our C&A discount is $504 so that seems to be a better deal.

All of that being said we haven't received our invoice yet so I'll be checking carefully when we do!

  6. what was the $200 you were expecting for?

There's a promotion on Christmas cruises at the minute, for the length of the cruise and the category of cabin it would have worked out at $200.

Thanks for clearing up what the discount is, pity they're not combinable!

  7. I booked a 12 night Christmas cruise today with an online TA and had expected to have $200 OBC applied to the booking, however when the TA looked up the rate with our C&A numbers there was a $252 C&A discount each applied so we couldn't have the OBC as well. Why would we have a discount? We're platinum but we were only booking an oceanview, not a balcony

  8. The sale was great for us. We booked an inside guarantee on Oasis for 799 each. When the sale started we were able to upgrade to an oceanview balcony guarantee for 20 dollars cheaper (after balcony discount applied)

  9. We monitor the price ourselves - there's two websites we use that email us when there's price drops - I think Cruise Critic have just launched their own version of this.

I rang the travel agent who contacted RC to get us the change in cabin. We thought we'd have to pay a bit extra but when the balcony discount was applied it was cheaper!

  10. Another Irish cruiser here. We've just booked our first cruise with a US TA and were able to upgrade our stateroom to a balcony when there was a price drop which is great. No OBC from this TA though so still on the hunt for one that will give some other perks

  11. Thanks so much for all the replies! I think we're going to go for it :) we don't have any kids yet (just me - the big kid at Christmas) so it's probably the one time we'll be able to do it! We actually went away (to Chicago) for Christmas 2 years ago and didn't particularly like it but I think that might be partly because it wasn't a cruise, staying in a hotel just seemed to pale on comparison
