I was in Dunmore East yesterday after spending the weekend near to Waterford.

There is a bus service to Waterford from across the road from the Bay Cafe, which is on the road just above the tender area.

The schedule for the bus service is here.

I had a lovely Seafood Pie in the Strand Inn.  Although small, it was served with fries and salad.  There was white fish, mussels, shrimps etc.

We will be in Dunmore East in August and thinking about just taking the bus into Waterford as you mentioned.  Not sure where the tender disembarks but based on your comments it doesn't seem far from bus stop....can you tell me what the fare is each way?  And are buses normally on schedule?  Thank you for your post!

  2. Has anyone done a full day tour after their overnight flight? We are arriving 2 days prior to cruise early in the am and thinking of the full day tour of city highlights and trip to Montserrat. We would just relax in the evening. Then we will have the next day to rest in morning and go back to inside of Sagrada Familia and just wander around some and get a good nights sleep before boarding the ship the next day.

When we've traveled to Europe before, we have always done some touring right after we arrive, hoping to adjust to their time zone. Just not sure if an 8-hr tour is too much. The good part is, my husband won't be driving so he can actually enjoy the sights.

we've always gone full days after over night flight even though i never sleep on planes. We go head on and generally die down after a good dinner and into a good night sleep ready for next day right on local time.

  3. We have visited Malta twice on port visits. Our first time, we went into Valletta and visited the archaeological museum and the lovely Co-Cathedral of St. John's. We then took a taxi to the amazing Hypogeum Neolithic ruins in one of Valletta's suburbs. Just 20 people per hour so you definitely must book in advance. Really unique.

On our second visit, we visited the Lascaris War Rooms in Valletta, the Rector's Palace and lovely home Casa Rocca Piccolo. The war rooms are similiar in concept to the Churchill War Rooms in London, and the tour guide there is fabulous.

Enjoy your visit to this special place and do not miss the gorgeous sail-in, one of the most magnificent in the world.

Can you tell me approximately how far the Hypogeum is from the Cruise port? We are scheduled to go late in the afternoon and I'm trying to make sure we have enough time to get back -- is it far to walk? How long of a Taxi ride? Approximate cost? Any information would be appreciated. you can also send scgo4it@aol.com. We leave in less than a week.

  4. The ships dock at one of the red X's in the Marittima Basin.

You walk out of the pier area, along the curving road towards the People Mover.

Take the People Mover across, then walk out to the Left towards Piazza Roma.

The Vaporetto Terminal is right there with ticket booths, and all the different Vap's are right there as well.

    REAL EASY.

    thank you!

  5. Guess we need to again clarify this issue. There are no (that means none) vaporetto docks in the Maritima Port (where cruise ships generally dock in Venice). The nearest convenient vaporetto dock is located in the Piazale Roma which is connected to the port (after a walk) by the modern overhead rail system called the People Mover! There is a place in the port where the Alilaguna boats dock (this is a private water bus system with limited routes). We have long recommended that cruise ship passengers who are spending more then a few hours in Venice should buy a timed Vaporetto Pass (they sell them for 12, 24, 36, 38, 72....hours) which give you unlimited vaporetto use. The Vaporettos (the public water bus system) can take you around Venice (in either direction) and also to any of the other islands in the Lagoon (Murano, Lido, Burano, Torcello, etc. Since a single vaporetto pass now costs 7 Euros (over $9.00) the timed passes are a bargain if you are going to use the vaporettos more then twice.

Yes, you can use the Vaporettos as a site seeing vehicle and it can be lots of fun. The #1 line runs every few minutes and slowly makes it way around the entire island with lots of stops (which means its a slow ride). The #2 is more of an express with fewer at stops. With a vaporetto pass you can hop on hop off as often as you please. At night they start shutting down many of the routes around 11:30....but there are a few night routes that run all night.

The People Mover (this costs 1 Euro per ride and connects the P. Roma to the cruise port) shuts down around 11 pm (10pm on Sundays) which can make life a bit more difficult for those wanting to get back to the port late at night. You do need Euros to pay for the People Mover (they only have vending machines) although the machines will also except a Chip/PIN credit card. There are usually some land taxis in the P. Roma, but they will usually want at least 20 Euros to take you less then a mile to the port. You can walk to the Port (24 hours a day) which is about a 20-25 min hike from the P. Roma if you like walking or are desperate :)

Thank you Hlitner, I appreciate the information, very helpful. I was aware that vaporetto dock was not right by the ship but i wasn't sure if within reasonable walking distance, but i forgot about the people mover, and we are walkers so your options looks good. We are getting extended time. Thanks again!

  6. 1 - Does anyone know where RCCL Serenade in October is expected to dock? Would it be near a Vaporetto stand? 2 - Can you ride one all the way around full circle to use as a sightseeing excursion, and how long approx? 3 - how late at night do they continue? 4 - best way to get back to ship if you want to stay at San Marco until late? Thanks in advance for help/suggestions/recommendation and advise.

  7. QTMichele, thank you for your review and pix of the cabanas...we were only able to secure a Hilltop cabana and am hoping its not too overly shady or too far the beach. My question only because i didn't see it in your review....is there an electrical outlet in the cabana? We want to take our MP3 player/small speakers and it would be great if we can plug in. Can you remember if there was one?
