  1. @suzyed You may be thinking of the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, which is a very hectic, crowded port at times, I agree. However, the Island Princess embarks from the Cruise Terminal at Red Hook, Brooklyn. My DH and I took a cruise from there on the IP this past June. We arrived around 11:00 and were met by a pleasant porter who took our bags and directed us to a place close by where we would get a wheelchair for my husband. The fellow working for the Port of NY who was wheeling my husband was most gracious and helpful. We checked in with our passports, received our medallions and went through security clearance in about ten minutes total. My DH was wheeled to a waiting area where he was assisted ,after a brief wait,by a Princess staff member to get on the ship. I seem to recall that the entire process from pulling up to the terminal curb to being on the ship took approximately 30 minutes. The longest wait was for someone to help us on to the ship. All the personnel who assisted us were pleasant and helpful. I would suggest the when using this terminal not to arrive exceptionally early as there are both passengers disembarking and embarking at the same time. This could lead to a crowded, busy situation. MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  2. Yes,we plan to be on that cruise.🤞 If you see a couple with either one or both of us using canes, please say hello! MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  3. @trbarton Lovely night time photos of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Staue if Liberty. Welcome to NYC and Bon Voyage on the Island Princess ! My DH were on the IP this past June. We found the crew to be attentive and pleasant. If you go to the Good Spirits bar where they serve coffee and treats throughout the day, could you please say hello for us to a server named Kit Kat from Thailand if he is serving there? We are the couple with the canes. He was very helpful to us. I hope you enjoy the ship as we did. MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  4. Oops,I posted on the wrong thread! Lovely photos from London. Wishing you bon voyage on the Majestic Princess. MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  5. @geoherb Beautiful night time photos of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. Welcome to NYC and wishing you a bon voyage! MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  6. @Lionesss Smart move !!! You are very generous with baking for others, but it is a lot of work. Sometimes easy is the way to go, especially in our retirement years.😉 I am certain your contribution to the church social is most appreciated. MJ😊
  7. @h20skibumBon voyage to all of Daryl’s crew!🛳️🛟⚓️ Wishing you all a most enjoyable vacation. I have to say that you and your wife are very involved and generous grandparents. You are creating wonderful memories for your grandkids ! Cheers! MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  8. @Ocean Boy Thank you for the clarification. I thought the auto injectables were a closed, solid unit after the application was made. MJ🙋‍♀️
  9. Agree with @Lady Hudson- Take a plastic bag with you to put the used auto injectors in and dispose of them at home. Simple solution ! MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  10. Hello Norris and Carol! I am not certain what caused me to check out the HAL board on CC as I had been reading the Princess board, but I am glad that I did because I found your latest postings. The photos of Amsterdam were lovely. As returning visitors, you knew your way around the city and enjoyed familiar places plus an opera performance. A perfect way to enjoy Amsterdam. I look forward to more of your photos and postings. I am curious to see if Norway scenery and the Arctic Circle is similar to Alaska. Wishing you and Carol continued good days! MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  11. We were on the cruise before yours and concur with your posting. It was an enjoyable cruise for us. We appreciated the crew and ambience of the Island Princess We booked another cruise on the ship, this time going to the Caribbean at the end of August. MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  12. Thank you @shadowmeboy for writing about YVRteacher. I thought she was sailing to Hawaii with her dad this June and I was searching for her posts. Hope she is enjoying the cruise and will post about it sometime when she returns home. Also hoping that you and your wife are doing well and enjoying the Summer. MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  13. TWA terminal brings back good memories. When I was a kid and JFK was named Idelwild Airport, my Dad would drive my Mom and me out to the airport for a Sunday afternoon adventure. I remember going into the TWA terminal- the roofline was iconic. We would go to the large glass windows and watch the planes take off and land. Simpler times with no TSA checks etc. Yes,I am a Senior Baby Boomer ! MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  14. We were on the IP this past June. I think the premium desserts were available at a counter in the buffet across from the Lavazza coffee station. While we had Premium pkg, I did not try the desserts as I have found cruise ship cakes look better than they taste. I did get one Pemium ice cream dessert- I think it was the Godfather-but, I asked for the ice cream and chocolate sauce. Not interested in the brownie, whipped cream or other additions. The ice cream was very good! I think it was better than what was offered in the MDR. YMMV MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  15. Welcome to NYC! Weather for the next few days is sun and mid 80 temps. Sunday predicted high of 90. I may be biased in that I am a native New Yorker, but I think the NYC sail away is the best! Your hotel location may put you in the area of the Highline. a vertical park created on abandoned railroad tracks. Great views of the Hudson River and the City. It might be something you would like to check out. You may be able to go to Little Italy for some delicious food. Ferrara’s makes the best pastries-the Napoleons are great! Enjoy your visit and your cruise. MJ🙋‍♀️
  16. @Timspeed I can appreciate your enthusiasm in writing this live review of the Alaskan cruise you are enjoying with Gabi. But, I do have a caveat about the review and I do not want to come off as a Debbie Downer. A test of a relationship/ friendship is traveling with a person. The experience could help make or break the connection with the other person. You may want to wait until the end of the cruise to post your review. Hoping it is an extraordinary experience for both of you. Also, you might consider that the time you spend writing about the cruise on the cruise might be better spent enjoying Gabi’s company . Take the time to make memories with her, the review can wait! MJ🙋‍♀️
  17. Another person (USA) that is not familiar with a sunflower symbol on a lanyard. When I was recuperating from recent knee surgery, my physical therapist suggested that I use a cane in public places to alert others that I need space and patience when walking. I suggest a cane while traveling in an airport or on a ship. In doing so,I was never been jostled. In fact, people graciously offered me help. MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  18. @Travel R Just to clarify- my DH agreed to wheelchair assistance only to get through the terminal at Red Hook Brklyn and to manage the gangway of the ship both at embarkation and disembarkation as there was quite a bit of walking and dealing with crowds of people. Luckily, the Port Authority of NY and Princess offers aid to travelers to make the going easier for them. Once on the ship, he was able to walk everywhere using a cane. There was no need for me or anyone to push him all day in a wheelchair. Like you. he was quite athletic in his time. He played college football and rugby and played golf , occasionally testing his skill on the black course at Bethpage (NY) golf course. Now, at 73, it seems those sporting activities have contributed to bothersome arthritis and, lately , he has been dealing with a groin muscle injury. If he had the choice of traveling using a bit of assistance or staying home. I think you would understand his willingness to agree to getting some aid to make travel doable for him. Of course, YMMV MJ🙋‍♀️
  19. I was referring to how drinks were ordered pre-medallion days. The “old” style of cruising. Where we were even presented with sign slips for room service. We started cruising in 1987. MJ🙋‍♀️
  20. This was our experience on a recent Island Princess cruise. We had the Premium Package. Cans of soda- we were able to order the cans delivered to our cabin. No charge. We ordered cans of sparkling water with meals in the MDR and the specialty restaurants. No charge Water bottles-I recall that we had bottles in the refrigerator upon boarding-possibly 2.l We ordered 4 bottles each morning with room service breakfast and 4bottles in the evening through the app. No charge for the small bottles of water. There was a charge for the large bottles of water though. At dinner, I would order a glass of wine and DH would order a non-alcoholic beer. We did enjoy numerous specialty coffees during the day. No charge. We found the Premium Pkg to be convenient as there were no charge slips to sign. However, we did not use some of the perks in the pkg. For our next cruise, we will choose the Plus Pkg which focuses on the perks that we can use. MJ🙋‍♀️
  21. @Travel R I have just begun to read your thread.Your writing has gotten my interest and I will continue to read your postings. However, I do have one question- considering the pain you have been experiencing, did you consider asking for wheelchair assistance for both the airport and boarding the ship? I ask this because my husband is coping with the pain of a groin pull. We recently took a cruise out of Brooklyn on Princess. I arranged wheelchair assistance for both embarkation and disembarkation. It made the travel so much easier for him. You may consider this in the future if your pain persists. Wishing you improved health. MJ🙋‍♀️
  22. It has been oppressively hot in NYC these past few days. Feel like temps were a bit over 100degrees. Tomorrow’s prediction shows some cooling off with temps in the low 80s. Since this is the first time you are sailing out of NYC, try to make an effort to see the Statue as the ship leaves the harbor. Statue should be on the starboard (right) side of the ship, but you could check about this. Try to find a shady spot for viewing the. state of Liberty and then going under the Verrazano Bridge. Bon voyage ! MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
  23. My DH bought me an anniversary diamond band when we celebrated our25th anniversary on the Crown Princess. I have worn it everyday since then with my wedding band and solitaire engagement ring. Never had any problems with the ring. It was bought 17 years ago. Granted that was before Effy became such a presence on cruise ships. Two years ago, he bought me a diamond and sapphire ring on the Celebrity Summit. This was an Effy piece. I wasn’t too sure about purchasing the ring, but he insisted. So far,no issues. Hoping I will be wearing it for 17 more years also !😉 MJ🙋🏼‍♀️
