Company Claims New Lightbulb Can Kill Coronavirus In a recent development, one of the largest lighting companies in the world, Signify, says they have developed a new light bulb they believe can kill 96% of coronavirus in just three seconds.4 The organization partnered with Boston University to test the effectiveness of the lightbulb to inactivate the virus. Eric Rondolat, CEO, spoke to CNBC, telling the reporter that after six seconds of exposure, the rate of pathogen death goes up to 99%.5 In a press release on Signify's website, Anthony Griffiths, Ph.D., from Boston University School of Medicine is cited:6 Rondolat believes the light bulbs are a preventive measure that may be useful in all types of public places. The notice from Signify follows research from Columbia University, where researchers found low doses of far-UVC light "inactivated 99.9% of aerosolized alpha coronavirus 229E and beta coronavirus OC43."7 These scientists found that viral inactivation took approximately 25 minutes. They believe that by doubling the intensity, they may be able to cut the disinfection time in half and still maintain safety.

  4. Dear Guest, Royal Caribbean International has recently been informed that a person who sailed on the Oasis of the Seas on March 8, 2020 has tested positive for COVID-19. Because you were a passenger on this same voyage, it’s possible that you were exposed to someone who was sick with COVID-19.

  7. I am currently on the ship, have been since 1/22. The food in the main dining room leaves a lot to be desired. I just made 4 star in the past the dining room food was better than most lines, now it is bellow most lines and I compare it to Norwegian line. What happened?

  9. I am on the ship right now. There are number of cases of the Norovirus. So far it seems to be minor, the staff is out there with hand sanitizers, as a precaution.

  12. How come the coffee on Royal Caribbean taste great while Holland's coffee is vile. Royal have Seattle Best grounds. I sail frequently on both Holland and Royal.
  13. I agree, I was on the Koningsdam also in January of 2019, the coffee was vile, eventually, after a few weeks, I was able to tolerate the coffee. Like you, I don't need Starbucks just a decent roast. I will be on the Koningsdam again this January and also February, hopefully the coffee is better.
  14. Holland has much better food, on the older ships it is geared to the senior citizens crowd. What I love most is the classical music and daily mass.
  15. I am a three star member, if I ordered online the specialty dinners, I will have to pay full price. I understand, if this is correct, that Holland will automatically refund me the 25% discount. Is this correct? Or do I have to notify guest relations before or after the dinner?
