  1. Hi Kirsty

I have been searching everywhere for bonine and have just discovered that here in the UK there is a tablet called Traveleeze which has the same ingredient Meclizine Hydrochloride.

In Bonine each tablet contains 25mg's of Meclizine and in Traveleeze each tablet contains 12.5 mg's.

They don't sell them in Boots but they do have them at Lloyds Pharmacy and are £3.09 for 10 pastilles.

The adult dose is 2 pastilles every 24 hours, so the same dosage as Bonine.

    Hope that helps ;)

Thank you - however, discontinued due to a factory fire at present... so unable to buy online/locally. :( I think i'll make sure I get to walgreens/Walmart in Miami before boarding the ship.

  2. not on the ship - if your travelling with your daughter, she will be keen probably to meet the other teens. The teen section on your ship will be safe. Ensure she knows to ideally travel around the ship with someone, and if she gets lost to find guest services/staff member. Theres lots of cameras, and I have never felt unsafe. Set times throughout the day to meet up, ask her to let you know where your going etc. If your on one of the newer ships, look into the iconcierge system where you should be able to call each other. Maybe even agree to meet each other in public areas and walk back to the stateroom together rather than leaving her to walk it alone.

  3. For those of you advocating for lifeguards, especially those who are trained, where would you put the chairs and what type of schedule would you run? 15 min on and 15 off? Two or three lifeguards for each pool? I would think that there would some liability for the safety of the lifeguards in the chairs in rough seas.

when I was working as a lifeguard we only ever worked 10 minutes in 1 location. i certainly wouldn't want to be sat in that chair or patrolling the poolside in rough seas...

  4. Granted - not fish and chips a la Whitby - but nevertheless 4 moist pieces of cod in a decent tempura batter was infinitely better than what I had previously.

I could start a rant about cheddar, bacon, sausages and beer (4 things Americans just do not get) - and as for Marmite and marmalade...

Definitely.. :) Although they do make excellent crepes and waffles... :)

  5. Interestingly, I had the fish and chips for lunch on the Getaway recently - the chips were OK - the fish was really well cooked - I was pleasantly surprised.

The Calamari starter was superb BTW.

On EPIC - it was posh fish fingers, a small tub of pea puree, and French fries - nice, but not English style obviously. Saying that, I would still have it 2-3 times a cruise. :) Americans on the cruise didn't understand how it wasn't English style.

  6. I've been reading how the chicken wings at O'Sheehans are not to be missed (have read this on multiple threads). Now, as someone that was born and raised in Buffalo NY and worked at Frank & Theresa's Anchor Bar, will these wings stack up to the original ? If they do, :D:D:D one happy cruiser.

Does it matter? I love the wings and the pizza, and everything else on a cruise ship... can I compare it to onland food in Britain - most likely not. Take their English style fish n chips - they are NOTHING like truly authentic fish and chips from the UK! :) But I still like them!

  7. its hard to tell - as I was on a TA last time, and found no issues, I enjoy going up near the freestyle deck, spice H2O is nice adult only part. I only had 1 sea day on my med cruise, and managed to find a deck chair, if your willing to look i'm sure you can find one, also if you find 'reserved' seats still reserved after a period of time I just ask a member of staff to move the stuff and in the past they always have.

  8. I am a qualified lifeguard, and yes they can save lives in the large pools as we can very quickly rescue somebody (we have time targets in 25 metre pools) and get CPR going, however in a cruise ship pool which are a fraction of the size of a full sized pool, I honestly do not feel a lifeguard would save lives. Children should always be a parents responsibility, and children should personally have an adult IN the pool with them, regardless of how well they can swim. Having staff in the pool area trained in CPR (which all staff are I believe) still ensure CPR is delivered quickly.

  9. I had a great time on the voyage. It was different than I'm accustomed too. I like to spend time in the nightclub and on this ship it was largely dead most nights after midnight. The average age was higher than I've ever encountered on a cruise before and lots of grumpy people.

The cruise itself and the itinerary were definitely awesome. I'd love to do it again with a less grumpy and possibly younger crowd. Puerto Vallarta, full transit of the Panama Canal and Cartagena were highlights

I don't know if it was the luck of the draw for the sailing or what but the crowd definitely put a damper on the cruise for me. I'm very happy go lucky and understand when things don't go right but people were downright pissy over a main course taking a little longer than being served immediately after the appetizer is cleared!!! Get real people... it's cruising... not a McDonalds drive through!

I lucked out, when I dined in specialty I avoided most of these grumpy old people. They didn't want to spend the extra money in specialty restaurants which were dead throughout the voyage so I went there and had wonderful dinners from excellent crew members who were friendly!

My full review is still being processed or so I heard from one of the hosts so I'll give it a few more days. :)

I found the age thing also a downer on my TA, that's why I probably wouldn't go on the star again - i think as its an older ship, maybe it attracts that age range. There was a group of about 8, 20's-30's trying to get 'younger' themed activities but the cruise director refused everytime e.g. just having the red lion open a little later with the karaoke, or up to date music for a dance.

  10. Hey

I was just wondering a few things, I a booked on the epic in a balcony mid ship room as it stands

I noticed it's not a lot more to get the mini suite, is is worth it and what extra do you get

Also we are In our 20s and plan in having a good few drinks each night and Probley try a few different resturants like the steak house

Would you say it's worth getting the drinks package and/or dinner package

I look forward to hearing back

    Gary

My understanding is a space thing with the mini suite, you don't get butler perks or anything like that. I was in a balcony with a friend and was plenty of space, bearing in mind the number of port stops, and things to do onboard we were never in the room!!

Drinks package - if you think you might be having more than 6-7 drinks/day go for it, but remember it doesn't include everything. The more expensive cocktails/martinis/wine etc are not included.

Cagneys is very very good. :) With the dinner package if you were eating out every night at a speciality restaurant go for it, but personally I mixed it up with main dining room and buffet so the package wouldn't work for me. You don't save too much going for the dining package.
