  1. This is not a bad idea. We flew out of Mallorca last week, reasonably small airport and not too hard to get around. We found everything very efficient
  2. We recently booked western med for May 2021, burn i’m starting to feel very uncertain that it will go ahead dude to the delays to vaccination and high number of cases here in Europe. With the extension of double points into 2022 we will likely book a few for next year.
  3. Our last cruise was on Empress to Cuba, in November 2018. We didn’t cruise in 2019 as my husband was deployed in Afghanistan. We planned to cruise a lot in 2020 but covid had other ideas! Oh well, we’ll keep our fingers crossed for 2021.
  4. Call RCI and have your booking reference handy. Current rate is $100 USD for $150 AUD (so around 67c per $1)
  5. Last time I did a TA (2018) I think we had 3 BJ tournaments
  6. Yes, it’s correct that they could move you anywhere and you have to accept it
  7. Continental breakfast room service is complementary on all RCI ships. It’s only the cooked items that attract a fee
  8. There are not 2 policies, there are exceptions to the single policy. RCI has set these exceptions and no one is doing anything wrong by utilising it. Anyone who thinks it’s reasonable to compare that to chair hogs is ridiculous
  9. Why would ice cream be included in a drink so package? I admit I am a very confused by this. Is this a common thing on other lines?
  10. Jeans and t shirts have always been allowed under the RCI dress code (at least for the past 8 years that I have been sailing with them). It’s only shorts that are technically forbidden, but often seen anyway.
  11. When Ovation sails out of Australia the limit is $14, and this is inclusive of gratuity (gratuity is rolled into the menu price here so a drink that is $12 + 18% elsewhere will just be a flat $14 here). This limit covers almost everything on the menu including frozen cocktails and Kim Crawford. Sailing out of Hawaii i’m not 100% certain what the limit will be but my best guess is $13 as this seems to be the standard for mega ships sailing from US ports.
  12. It seems to be a fairly widespread glitch at the moment - people have been reporting this on my cruise groups across various platforms. You can still call to make a payment
  13. We sailed Empress 3 days after disembarking from Symphony. We only did it because we wanted to go to Cuba. There were some nice features to the ship but I wouldn’t sail her again unless it was back to Cuba
  14. Laser tag can not be booked in advance. Session times will be advertised in the cruise compass and you just line up. 14 players at 1 time. I recommend lining up 10 minutes before the start time. We we really enjoyed it, great fun
  15. So why can my husband do it, but not her son? We never had a problem with just one of our party going to the bar with everyone’s cards
  16. Note the 50% off is off the onboard price NOT the price you buy online. Onboard price usually much higher
  17. You don’t get a choice of how to go. It’s always feet first
  18. I’m really sorry this happened and put a dampener on your vacation ☹️ I really enjoyed the abyss and didn’t realise they were having these kinds of problems. When we were on Symphony (October 2018) the instructions were that our elbows had to be tucked in to our body - essentially sitting on our stomach. Was that the instructions you received also? Just wondering if they have changed something.
  19. The technical answer is that shorts are welcome for breakfast and lunch in the MDR, but not for dinner. The realistic answer is that this is very rarely enforced
  20. Empress had a refurb just recently so I don’t think you will find her old, musty or dirty. We were on her in November and she wasn’t bad then, which was before the refurb. Like you we prefer the bigger ships - we were on Symphony the week before Empress- but we were prepared to accept the smaller ship in order to get to Cuba. It was wonderful and definitely worth it. No diamond lounge. When we were on her there wasn’t even a diamond event! I noted on my survey my dissatisfaction with the loyalty offering on Empress overall and have hear more recently they have been do
  21. I disagree. The concept of MTD is that you can eat at a time that isn’t traditional early or late seating. This enables the possibility of walking in when you want, but it isn’t just for that. Making reservations isn’t antithetical to MTD. Also, given that MTD can’t be ‘sold’ I think you may have seen the specialty restaurant desk.
  22. I have experienced this many times - it’s because your cruise doesn’t leave from Australia. When you see the daily drinks price advertised, if you leave from Australia it includes the gratuity, if you leave elsewhere it doesn’t. In both situations what you pay at checkout is the final price.
  23. I’m not sure about the timing sorry, but just as an aside if you change ships it’s called a ‘side to side’ or S2S, not B2B
