  1. Found what I was looking for! Very happy to say - in searching thru past Costa "TODAY" daily on board papers from the Concordia sailing August 21, 2009 (our trip) the Captain that week was Giacomo Longo. I did not think we had Schettino, he did not look familiar. We had a wonderful experience on that cruise - and this past August sailed again out of Barcelona on the Costa Marina (no longer part of the Costa fleet). Our continued thoughts are still with the passengers and crew of the Concordia.
  2. Question? - Could anyone answer when he took command of the Concordia? We were aboard in August 2009 - just wondering If anyone has the correct dates? please respond Thank you
  3. So sad....cruised aboard the Concordia 2009. Beautiful ship with a great crew. A tragedy! Passengers embark and disembark at each port sometimes, therefore, some drills were not held for each new group...that will probably change. We had a wonderful time and I do like Costa. Prayers extended to all!
  4. 2 years ago - Aug. 09 - did Concordia round trip out of Barcelona - excellent vacation...we liked - ONLY 24 USA/Canada folks! This year - cruising again out of Barcelona - on the smaller ship - Marina. Also did a Costa cruise out of Dubai in Jan. 09 We very much enjoy the European atmosphere...and the crew treats us wonderfully - as their English is better for them than their Italian!
  5. Breakfast and Lunch are buffets....good choices/omelet station too....and lunches have different themes. Dinner - served - 7:30 to 10 We went at 7:30.....2 appetizers, soup, 4 entrees (fish, meat, veg...and always steak and FF)...cheese....and desserts. We all thought they were delicious. The menu is posted early in the piano bar plus they bring the entrees on display for viewing too. Bar prices reasonable...and the house wines are "just fine!"
  6. They were right on schedule the whole time....we had great weather - no problems with tendering/docking. Did the ship's excursion for the snorkeling in Dominica. We had been to the most of the ports before, so had already done private tours in years past. Most of our group did the ship's Railway tour in St. Kitts....we enjoyed the sailing of the ship to the next tendering spot. Iles de Saintes is a "cute area" - fun just to walk around Martinique - grab a taxi for a short tour....the town is not too good We went more for the ship experience - rather than all the tours In Antigua - walked to Nelson Dockyard....toured ourselves - taxi to the beach barbecue. I have posted on the Star Clipper FB page a picture.....and will posting a few more.
  7. Jan. 8-15, 2011 - first time with Star Clipper, but have done many other cruise lines. YOU WILL LOVE IT! Captain Brunon and the crew are great. The ship is beautiful/fabulous lines/polished interior...and when the sails go up as it departs the port and the "Conquest of Paradise" begins to play - it is breath taking. We had good weather, but the ship does make one 'rock n roll' with the waves. Food and presentation excellent - good variety....nice bar service....everyone gets enough exercise going up and down the many steps and on and off tenders that the fitness room is rarely used. A nice mix of international passengers and crew....we were a group of 20, but mingled with all. I would be happy to try to answer any questions as best I can. I will try to check back to the boards. We do not have any future cruise plans right now!
  8. Just returned on Saturday from the Royal Clipper. Know you will enjoy your day trip. We had been to Dominica before and did the island tour privately, so this time I did sign up for the Falls/Snorkeling with the ship's tour because we were traveling with a group. It was a good day....and the water is clear and you do see lots of fish/coral/and even an old canon with chain. Ask away at any other questions....we had a wonderful trip. The ship is beautiful....rocking and rollin'. Crew very good....food delicious. When I have time - I will be posting a bigger review
  9. Will post when we return....we are looking forward to the experience!
  10. Just asking if anyone out there on Cruise Critic is departing on this sailing?? We have a group of 20 - 10 cabins - some friends that have sailed/and traveled together before on land and sea....Not all of us the same time, but a fun group. Experienced travelers....but I have enjoyed reading some info on the Star Clippers. This will be the first for all of us on this type of ship.
  11. is the House wine served carafe style or bottle....does not really matter - just checking cause price seems OK????
  12. Booking with Bodden Tours is easy and Victor is very efficient in returning emails and scheduling exactly what type of tour or day you would like. Ali was our driver - excellent. It was a rainy day - missed some of the picturesque views - but saw the whole island. Prices very reasonable - cash payment at the end - This company is a total PLUS!!!!
  13. Always - Small Corkscrew! - one that even travels in the carry on & is acceptable.
  14. no one had to unpack any hand carry we carried on coca cola in the plastic 12 oz bottles - no problem I also had REAL water in my purse - no problem I did bring on 2 other water bottles in the checked luggage with ????? cannot answer about perfume - gift shop small Colombian emeralds has a store did the usual t shirts and stuff
  15. Our cabin was 426 and our friends were in 427. AND they were both COLD with cold air blowing straight down. Once maintenance came in they were both fine.
