  1. Thank you all for the replies. It seems I have a pretty good chance of still being able to book 4-5 days out, especially in January. I am making the assumption that the lower January prices are directly due to slower demand. Maybe I will luck into a "deal", but if it does sell out, nothing is lost. Thanks again.

  2. Did any of you recent Triumph cruisers half to deal with fog, arriving late into port, and messing up your return flights? We go the latter part of January and I've been obsessing about that a lot.

I went on this cruise last year, at the end of January. It was foggy, misty, rainy and cold during departure and for the rest of the first day. Nice hot weather in Mexico, then a repeat of the cold/fog as we returned. I guess your going to get this cruising in January or February.

  3. We enjoyed our 2nd cruise on the Triumph very much.

    - The Carnival dancers were excellent. How they maintain that high energy in performance after performance is amazing. The choreography and energy level is outstanding.

    - Room stewards seemed to anticipate our needs. I had a cooler for our soft drinks in the room, and they kept it filled with ice, along with the ice bucket without asking.

    - Dining staff were great. Wonderful personalities and professionalism.

    - Most of all, THANKS to the personnel on the Triumph who keep all things running smoothly "behind the scenes". These people rarely if ever meet the eye. They never see a smile or hear a thanks for the job well done. The ship mechanics, food prep, laundry, waste disposal, etc. all deserve recognition they just don't get.

I don't know what Carnival pays their employees, but you all deserve a healthy raise. Thank you all for jobs well done. :)

  4. Not for connecting with a cruise, but we rode Amtrak after flying in to Buffalo, NY (Niagara Falls) to Albany NY, then a few days later from Albany to NYC. GREAT experience with Amtrak. No traffic, no navigating, no parking, just kick back in the reclining seats and enjoy the scenery out the windows, or even sleep. Amtrak is a great way to travel, at least for medium length to shorter trips, IMO.

  5. These are the things that I equate with FTTF. I don't have a problem with any of them.

+ Someone upgrades from coach to FC at the gate cheap and sits next to my full price seat.

+ They buy a show lovers pass at an amusement park and get to sit in front of me in "the good seats"

+ Im in line for a rollercoaster and a few people get the short line because they forked over $20 extra pp to get on the short line.

+ The guy next to me in the airport shuttle paid for early check in at our hotel. I have to go shopping for a while and wait for my room to be ready.

It doesnt matter that I have the most FF miles or the season pass to the amusement park or that I own stock in the hotel. If someone pays for an upgrade then they are entitled to it and Im not about to get bent out of shape.

For the record, I bought FTTF for my upcoming family cruise. I am not brand loyal and don't plan on achieving "status" with any line. As I see it, my money purchased :

    "Early check-in"

    "The short line"

    "Tender lovers passes"

Calling it "Paying for an upgrade" is a misplaced rationalization. Getting a better cabin than someone else, for example, is an upgrade that causes no effect on others. Conversely, FTTF facilitates line breaking in front of others, and that affects others, making them wait longer. Its not that hard to understand the difference.

All the ones who support it here are the ones who buy it, and benefit from it at the expense of all of Carnivals other customers.

  6. FTTF is a good concept but some of the perks should be part of the suite package.

No it isn't. FTTF is a "pay to break in line in front of others" program. In most places, line breaking is cause for ejection. On Carnival, line breaking is a cause for more Carnival profits, at the expense of their other customers. FTTF is a bad program.

  7. One of the most frustrating things on our Carnival cruises was paying for the soda card and then having bar tenders and waiters ignore you. .....the price for the card way exceeds the amount of soda you could drink plus the tips for the wait staff, so we shouldn't be treated like pariahs when we ask for a soda that we are unable to get any other way. ...........the glass is so full of ice that there's barely a cup of liquid in the glass. I think RCI has a good idea there.

AMEN! I really like Carnival, I am a repete customer. But this is one issue they have DROPPED THE BALL ON. The most ridiculous thing, in addition to all you have just mentioned, is the "Coke lug" when arriving and boarding. Its pathetic to see so many people having to park and walk and stand in line while carring heavy quantities of soft drinks. Carnival REALLY needs to install soft drink fountians. The soda card system is a JOKE.
