  1. My experience has been that if I cancel the cruise, the FCD goes back on my account to be used at a later date up to the expiration date. If Princess cancels, the purchase price is refunded automatically. I've been able to enlist the help of my PVP to return the FCD to my account (my preference), in these situations. YMMV.
  2. Shiga-toxin producing E. coli? Here I am reading along and trying to solve this mysterious acronym and learning about IT codes I never knew existed when suddenly a reference to information from my own microbiological realm. Too funny! But no, in this case I'm going with the thinking that STEC is probably suite or suite cabin or something along those lines. Nice try though! 😂
  3. No bother here. My point was people approach information gathering differently. And as you just reminded me, you never know what life circumstances someone is dealing with. Sorry about your mom.
  4. That's exactly what I thought! How can someone actually write they don't know how far from the port the airport is? Seems so simple to me. Just go on Google Maps. And while you're there learn a little about the city you're visiting. But I'm a researcher. Savvy with maps and online resources. It would never occur to me to ask someone what I can easily find out for myself. Foreign concept. I don't do that. But everyone is not like me, which I guess is a good thing.🤔 Lots of people, who are far more social than I, go about figuring things out by interacting with other people first and maybe turn to online resources only when needed. Steelers36, perhaps you and I have a similar personality profile? At the very least we're thinking alike on this issue.😉 And yes, before GPS, I would never ask for directions when driving either.
  5. Thanks for the link. That is interesting!
  6. I would easily choose Alaska and the TA. I have zero interest in the Caribbean. Good luck deciding! If you're on a ship, you can't go wrong!
  7. I don't know about other states within the USA let alone other countries, but in Delaware we were required to get the 1st and 2nd shot by the same manufacturer. The clinical trials were performed this way. Is there scientific evidence for mixing manufacturers?
  8. We have no kids. Just dogs. Dog mom was taken. The pretty girl you see here is Anna, our first Portie, at the summit of North Bubble in Acadia National Park. We were avid hikers and Portuguese Water Dogs (Porties) are very agile and wonderful hiking companions.
  9. Thanks. Yes, saw that. Looking for a little more in-depth info perhaps from someone living in the area?
  10. No. We will not be cruising in early 2021. After 6 cancellations, our next cruise is a B2B in fall 2021. I have no issue with social distancing or wearing a mask. No big deal. My concern is with any mandate that disallows independent shore excursions. If we are limited to Princess excursions only, chances are I'm not going. There are other ways to travel.
  11. Wondering if the refurbishment work is on track and if there is a chance all scaffolding would be removed and work completed by September 2021. We were in London in 2018 and knowing work had begun the previous year, I did not attempt to visit that area. As a matter of fact, we stayed only one night and left the next morning for Southampton. I'm hoping for a longer visit this time, but honestly not even sure we will be ready to travel by September of next year. Meanwhile, our British Isles cruise is booked and fingers crossed that the pandemic has eased. I'm researching and hoping to see Elizabeth Tower sans obstructions and hear Big Ben. Can anyone provide an update? Thank you.
  12. That limitation -- that the viral particles must be present -- is not exclusive to SARS-CoV-2. All PCR tests require the target to be present. All laboratory tests have false negative and false positive rates. All laboratory test results must be interpreted with the patient's full clinical picture in mind. Nothing exclusive to COVID.
  13. After I was first contacted by my Princess PVP, I was not too interested. After using multiple TAs in the past, I now prefer to book directly with Princess, as well. Just never could find a TA that suited me. This PVP was persistent and eventually she caught up with me on the phone. Turns out she is wonderful!! She is always there when I need her. I no longer call the 1-800 number when I have an issue. It's hit or miss with the reps at the call center. Now I go to my PVP. She's always available and sometimes it seems like she's reading my mind. I wanted to save an FCD that had been applied to a cruise that was cancelled and she was able to save it for me instead of it automatically being refunded. Then I put a courtesy hold on the new cruise I wanted to use it for, emailed her and she immediately took care of it for me.
  14. Great analogy SinbadThePorter!
  15. Just an FYI to clear up any confusion. SARS-CoV-2 is the virus. COVID-19 is the disease.
  16. Dissipate is not the word I would use. Some droplets will accumulate on the face shield. Think bugs on a windshield. The face shield is a solid barrier that protects the entire face including the eyes. I've used one in my laboratory work. I've actually thought, for only a brief moment, about wearing one to the grocery store. Apparently I'm not the only one with that thought. I read a local news article last week where face shields were up for consideration to be recommended to the general public either in lieu of the face mask or in addition to. (An advantage is that you can read someone's expression or lip read when the wearer isn't masked.) Not sure that would go over too well with a lot of folks. Now whatever gave me that idea?🤔 Hope you are recovering well from your surgery!
  17. The PCR test is used to amplify the genome of the virus, which is RNA (not DNA) in the case of the coronavirus. The swab test I'm sure you've heard about where they put a long Q-tip up the person's nose or in their mouth to collect a specimen is an example of a PCR test. They're not studying you but rather testing for the presence of coronavirus.
  18. You could volunteer at your local medical center and see for yourself.
  19. Me too, Coral. Me too. My husband had a devastating stroke 3 years ago. Now that he is retired we were planning to do lots of cruising. Finally we're in a position to do that and we had 3 cruises planned this year, and now this. So tough. I feel we are in limbo just standing by. But I'm not letting it get me down. God willing next year will be better.
  20. The correct word is mask and my motive is to save lives and help people be well while educating others, especially other healthcare workers. It's definitely a challenge educating the general public. There is a lot of anxiety out there and some confusion and some people inherently don't trust scientists. That's too bad because I do what I do to help others, and COVID-19 is a public health issue which means that everyone's actions matter. Whether you choose to wear a mask or not. Whether you choose to observe social distancing guidelines or not. It's going to affect a lot of other people. So I think it comes down to asking yourself whether you trust doctors, nurses, scientists enough to follow the guidelines. I hope you are with us.
  21. I absolutely agree. Much as people want to wish it away or ignore that it exists, SARS-CoV-2 is not going anywhere anytime soon. So settle into social distancing, wear your face mask, stay safe, and try not to kill someone today.
  22. Mine have been updated too, including bookings made in 2019.
  23. Now that I think about it I did have a cruise booking where the hold didn't drop. In my case the FCC from my first cancelled cruise was automatically applied when I rebooked that one, which was fine. That's how I knew they were doing that. But with my second cancelled cruise, I rebooked it on a courtesy hold and was working with my PVP because I wanted to use my FCD. On the third day when it should have dropped I was in contact with her and we both noticed the hold had been taken off and it was booked with no deposit. We figured it was something she had inadvertently done while she was in my account. However over a month later, Princess still hasn't removed the cancelled cruise from my personalizer and the FCD is still applied to that booking, which apparently is not unusual these days. I don't believe I will get the FCD back. So currently that booking is there without a deposit, which my PVP told me is OK. I want the booking. Important to note though that in general holds are not dropping. I will have to keep that in mind if I decide to book something in the near future. One more thing to pay attention to. I think it is strange but at least you can rectify things with a call.
  24. 6. If I make a new booking on princess.com, how do I activate my FCC? Do I have to call into the Contact Center? Once your FCC has been built, the website automatically applies the FCCs available when you input your name and address. You don't even need to sign on. The website will pull these credits for all the eligible names provided during the booking process, including guests 2, 3, 4, and the balance summary will show the FCC as a line-item credit. If you do not want the FCC applied, you will need to call the Contact Center to have it removed. https://www.princess.com/plan/impacted-and-cancelled-cruises/
  25. Enhancing Health Requirements We will deny boarding to guests and crew if they: Have been in contact with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 or a person being monitored for COVID-19. Are suffering from a fever or flu-like symptoms prior to embarkation. If you meet any of these criteria, please contact Princess as soon as possible, definitely before you travel to the terminal for embarkation. If you’re unable to sail because of these restrictions, you’ll receive a full cruise credit. https://www.princess.com/plan/cruise-with-confidence/keeping-you-safe-and-healthy/
