  1. Hi BasandSyb,

just to update you on what I wrote - the form filling is only for crew, so don’t expect that.  Sorry for the mis-info.  My friend thought I was asking for a crew member on board.

If you come across a lovely Canadian pilot called Todd, say hi.  He’s traveling solo, and is lots of fun.

Take care, and fling any questions you have my way, I’ll try and get them answered by my friend at the port.

    Best - N.

  2. Hi - sorry this answer isn’t as full as I would like, but I texted a few people I know who work for Royal Caribbean, and this is what they told me.  As long as symptom free, you should be able to get off the ship, and will be encouraged to go straight to the airport for your flight outta here.

There is nowhere to stay, as all hotels are shut down in Miami-Dade county.

He said if protocols are followed, you will sign a form declaring that you are well, and then just debark and get in to a cab to the airport and that’s as far as the cruise line’s responsibility.

Anything after that is dependent upon the entry requirements of your home country you are flying to.

Sorry not that helpful, but it is what my friend who works there told me.

If you have any other questions, just reply and I’ll ask him as he seems pretty clued up as to what is going on.

  3. My friend who is on the ship posted some great photos up on the jogging track, transiting the canal today on our Azamazing Boys Whatsapp group. Looked lovely weather - said he got a bit burnt as was outside admiring the view and the sun was strong!  Oooops.

He said they are all still having a good time - but i think he is ready to get off the ship.  LOL.

Chile is rapidly closing their borders and many outbound flights have been cancelled.

Azamara has assured us we will stay on the ship until we have an assured way home.  They don’t know what that plan is right now if Valparaíso falls through, but they will not abandon us.

The uncertainty is is causing some stress with some passengers, but the officers and crew are fantastic.

    good luck!

I have a good friend on board and he told me this morning basically the same thing about only being allowed off the ship with confirmed seats on confirmed flights.
He said his issue is he is on standby for a flight on 18th, and authorities weren’t going to let them off if they were only “standby” - must be very worrying and I would find it hard to maintain a positive attitude, so well done for those who are managing to do so!

  5. There were no shuttle buses last week in Rio, off the Pursuit.  About 3 million people offering taxis tho!

We had a private guide meet us there at the port, so not an issue.

There is a tram stop right there, but don’t ask me where it goes - could be worth looking into.

None of the ports provided any transportation in Brazil.

Montevideo, the ship docks right in town - so don’t need one.

The ships will have very festive decorations, and usually a gingerbread house village all made from scratch. And yes, special fare is on the menu.

Thanks Bonnie - I’m on a super diet right now to lose a few LBS so I can ruin it all and put it all back on enjoying all the festive fare on the ship - trying to feel less guilty and the clothes still fit.  Appreciate your input.  Thx

They offer turkey as an option for Christmas as far as I recall.

For New Year’s Eve, yes the white party was on that evening during my cruise. The ship was moored in front of Copacabana beach and it was a beautiful place to see the fireworks.

Thanks for the input - I heard from friends its a great place to see the fireworks, as Copacabana beach itself can be a bit of a zoo on NYE.

  8. Quick question regarding Christmas/New Year on board....

We will be on Pursuit this Christmas - just wondered if they lay on anything special on Xmas day, like traditional Christmas lunch or is it just the regular menus? I assume the specialty restaurants will be just their usual menus?

New Years Eve the ship as I understand it is moored off Copacabana Beach in Rio for the fireworks etc.  I heard third hand this also the white night party but it was just speculation from a frequent Azamara cruiser friend?  Anyone know if this might be the case?  I’m sure it will be lots of fun if so, but I’m sure it will be fun wherever/ whenever it is.....

  9. Very disappointed in the major changes to the Dec 19 Panama canal cruise itinerary next year.

At least 4 ports dropped - including all the interesting Central American ones like El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and a couple of additions including Key West which, living in Miami we couldn't care less about. The Cuba stop being the only positive addition.

No one has been in touch with us about this.  Will contact our TA to discuss at some point when we have time. It's thanks to this thread that I spotted a member mentioning a change to the Panama Canal cruise that I looked into it and saw the complete overhaul of the itinerary.

Interestingly, a quick fling round a few independent cruise brokers online, and they are still peddling the original itinerary.  This would really annoy me if I went ahead and booked thinking I was getting one thing, knowing fine well Azamara have already changed it.

Oh and Azamara, your website still shows the original itinerary map.  Sort it out.

  10. Thanks for the review - can't believe it's over for you already. Our friends from Miami on the cruise certainly seemed to have fun - we had daily updates from them as well!!, and we are excited to be joining the Journey on the 23rd in Stockholm. I hope you left some nice weather there for us! Safe trip home....

  11. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong in this Voyage Planner thing - I go to the Voyage Planner page, put in reservation number, name, ship, and date, and nothing happens. Just blanks out the fields and back to the start again.

All other links take me to the old excursion booking pages, which is fine. I can use that. But I can't seem to find this new Voyage Planner page anywhere - any help would be great! Thanks.

  12. Thanks for the info folks - I'm not desperately worried. It all sounds very well organised. Do most have dinner back on the ship after the evening's event? We tend to eat late, so it would be better for us, and from Chucktown Steve's reports, it sounds like it is a fairly short time between returning to the ship from the day's sightseeing and heading back out for the Azamazing evening.... how long did you have, out of interest? Thx!

  13. This posting is a day late because yesterday was sooo long.

Your blog is getting me excited for my trip August 23rd as a lot of the tours, Azamazing evening, etc are similar to what we will get on our trip, I assume.

Couple of small questions, if you get the chance - we are using SPB for a 2 day St P tour - how are the lines at various places you went to? I notice you mention a 1 hour line at the first stop. My other half can't stand about for long - just wondering how we will deal with that. We have a private guide for the 2 of us.

You mention a bus number 1 for the Azamazing evening. Is this a thing for elite members? We aren't elite, but in a suite. Is there a benefit for bus 1 passengers? We like the odd little perk ;) Any drinks or refreshments served? How does it fit in with dinner?

Thanks again for taking the time to blog - very interesting, and informative!

  14. Nice work on the review ChucktownSteve! I'm rather envious as we were supposed to be on this cruise, staying in a lovely club ocean suite, but my husband broke his hip 2 weeks ago so we had to cancel at the last minute.

Azamara were very good with us, as was our excellent TA, and between us all we managed to negotiate moving the trip to another Azamara cruise, with some change fees. Hubby had surgery, hip replaced, well on the mend, so should be right to go soon.

Anyway, we have friends on the trip who we are missing greatly as we should have been on the trip with them, but I'm sure they are having fun. I'm very jealous of Lech Walesa in Gdansk - that should be interesting.

I hope you are having fun - our friends texted us to say it wasn't such a nice day in Copenhagen today - I'm sure you will make the best of it. Enjoy, and keep going with the updates, very interesting thank you.
