Must Cancel.....Help!!

We had to cancel our cruise to Alaska back in June 2010 when I got laid off. Our deposit was 1400.00 total that we would have lost. Carnival said that 1400.00 credit would sit on our account (I believe it was 2 yrs?) and on a future cruise we could use it. We also had travel insurance that reimbursed us 1400.00. Thank God for Travel Insurance!!! We ended up cruising the next year after I found a new job :) It worked out great for us because we didn't lose the money plus we were able to use the credit too.

    minors on cruise
Having watched this a few times at customs crossings what he should have done was, send you inside for an investigation, held all of you at the port of entry until a fedex or ups original signed letter could be delivered and then fined you. You want him to stop his job to handle your mistake and shout TO DO HIS JOB because of your failure to do yours (check the US laws not the cruise lines). Sorry, your wrong!
Yes that is his job, isn't it? I had nothing to hide. And how many others did he overlook that had something to hide?
The Immigration agent was correct. We cannot rely on a cruise line rep (or even other members here) for that kind of legal information. What you perceived as a bad attitude may have been him simply doing his job and being frustrated that you didn't have the required notarization and were possibly arguing with him about it. Did you expect him to simply say, "Oh, okay, never mind" and let you go? It wasn't the agent's job to call a parent because you didn't have the required notarization. He probably had another several hundred passengers to clear. All of whom were also waiting to disembark. Yours is a cautionary story for others who think it's no big deal to have the letter notarized or who think information from a cruise line rep is legal advice that will hold any weight with an Immigration official. The cruise lines make it very clear that passengers are responsible for having all required documentation. beachchick
No I expected him TO DO HIS JOB....and take us aside and check into it. After his speal about how we shouldn't call the cruiseline, etc...I offered for him to check into our letter. He said he didn't want to waste our time doing that...so why complain about the letter if you don't want to look into it?

Do you envy FL residents??? I do!
I live in Jacksonville now since 1995 and, Jags or no, I like it up here.
Just wanted to say we also live in Jax and wouldn't trade it for the world. Moved down here in 1989 from NJ and the cost of living is so much easier here then Jersey. Yeah my house I bought in 1996 for 58k is now worth probably 75k but I wouldn't move cause I like it here, I love my house after I renovated it, and the property taxes are to die for!

What do you do for motion sickness ?
Less Drowsy Dramamine and Bonine are the same thing...both 25mg of meclizine!
Well non drowsy dramamine made me spaced out... Bonine did not affect me at all but made it so I didn't feel at all queezy. Not sure why if they are the same? But I'll do with what works LOL
The letter does need to be notorized. I do not know about where you are but here it costs less than $20
I agree because we took my daughters 16 yr old friend on a cruise in April and upon boarding they didn't ask for any letter or anything authorizing us to bring her, however upon disembarkation the customs person gave us a REALLY BAD attitude because our letter was not notorized! We had called Carnival twice to ask if it needed to be and because we did not leave or go to a Mexican port they claimed it didn't need to be notorized....but the customs person told us "You should not call the cruiseline...you should call the customs dept for that information because you were misinformed!" After debating back and forth I told him he's free to call her Mom (info on the letter signed by her Mom) but he claimed that would take "too much of your time." I was thinking to myself "GEEZE man just do your job and stop complaining!" I had no problem with any time he needed to take to do his job. So needless to say if I ever bring another minor with me I will have that letter notorized just in case!
  9. Right cause that's the peak of hurricane season here :)

What do you do for motion sickness ?
I do get seasick very easy, and I have found that the Non-Drowsy formula of Dramamine is my best friend, along with Ginger capsules. I used the TransdermScop patches on one cruise, and on about the 5th day I lost about 60% of my vision (in addition to the dry mouth, which everyone who uses them complains about). The vision loss lasted about 3 weeks. It happened so gradually that I hadn't realized it until I went parasailing...very freightening. I did go to an eye specialist upon our return, and he said it is a fairly common side effect. It was really a bummer not being able to drive! Belinda
I tried dramamine once (non drowsy) and it made me like a zombie and didn't help near as much as the bonine (which DID NOT ever make me drowsy). I just chewed 1 every evening and was fine each day. I can't do the patch cause of glaucoma. It's not good for glaucoma patients.

    Carnival PRICE DROPS TODAY!!!!

Last cruise if it was prior to final payment we got a reduction to the final payment amount. When we found a price drop after final payment then they gave us an OBC for the difference. It was nice :) This time we've gone down 40.00 so far (prior to final payment) so that lowered our final payment in Dec by 40.00. I'll defintely keep checking (I sometimes do daily) cause I'll take whatever I can get! LOL

What do you do for motion sickness ?

I get terrible motion sickness, even while driving in a car. I took bonine last cruise (one each night) and was fine the entire cruise. Never once got sick! I'm using that again next cruise. Worked great for me :)

Do you envy FL residents??? I do!
It was 98-103 degrees here  (Philadelphia) last week with high humidity. So not much different only you're closer to cruise ports!
YUCK! Yeah it was 105 here with humidity it hit 110-115 degrees....YUCKY.... I grew up in NY State (near Buffalo) and loved it as a kid but hate the snow now. So, glad we live here in Florida. First year we moved here in 1989 they had a "snow storm" they called it where we got 1/4 inch of snow!!!! LMAO...it completely imobolized the city! We ordered pizza and they wouldn't even deliver it :( But I think it's cool we live within driving distance of ports though :)
