  1. Darn....the problem with the web site is that they have bad URL's....not that the page is gone. The pointer to the page is malformed.

If you click on show select benefits, the URL that is used is:

    http://www.celebritycruises.com/captainsclub/membershipBenefits.do?pagename=cc_benefits&tab=captains_club_tier_classic%2Fcaptainsclub%2FmembershipTierDetails.do%3Fpagename%3Dcaptains_club_tier_classic

    but it should only be:

    http://www.celebritycruises.com/captainsclub/membershipBenefits.do?pagename=cc_benefits&tab=captains_club_tier_classic

It's just bad programming, not a precursor to the new plans......

Now this is very useful - many thanks for posting :)

  2. I second the thank you! :):):)

Does anyone know if the $29 per day p.p. also applies to Alaska cruises this month on the Century for her 7 nite sailings?

Is lunch offered in Muranos on sea days?

Since she only has Muranos, wld it be worth choosing a 3 or 5 nite package instead?

Any & all opinions gratefully received..& am thanking you in advance! :)

  3. He is a bit blunt on this topic, but spot on:

"Oh yeah, word of caution for all of you that ruin your steaks by ordering them well-done, Bourdain says that most chefs will give you the worst cuts of meat when they find out you want it cooked that way because they figure you won’t be able to tell the difference anyway after it’s been burned to a crisp.

‘Saving for well-done’ is a time-honored tradition dating back to cuisine’s earliest days. … What happens when the chef finds a tough, slightly skanky end-cut of sirloin that’s been pushed repeatedly to the back of the pile? He can throw it out, but that’s a total loss. He can feed it to the family, which is the same as throwing it out. Or he can ‘save for well-done’—serve it to some rube who
    prefers
his meat or fish incinerated into a flavorless, leathery hunk of carbon, who won’t be able to tell if what he’s eating is food or flotsam. Ordinarily, a proud chef would hate this customer, hold him in contempt for destroying his fine food. But not in this case. The dumb bastard is
paying for the privilege of eating his garbage!
    What’s not to like?'”

Made my day and is spot on - had heard this from friends who ran a very elegant French restaurant..

If I may be permitted to add please - another thing to avoid is anything on the steak, even seasoning or gravy, for the same basic reason.

    Have great cruisin'! :)

  4. My DD and her DH recently took his (widowed) mother on a 14-day cruise with them. They shared a cabin and it all worked out well.

Firstly, my DD loves her MIL and gets on well with her. That's important, as it would never have worked out otherwise.

The cabin was set up with the couch made up as a single bed. A single mattress was placed over the top of the couch. That way, no fold-out bed made the cabin smaller.

The MIL was an early riser and her bed was near the balcony door. When she woke up, she took a book and used the balcony as an extension of "her" bedroom. She went out there until my DD and her DH woke up.

The only man in the room went to the gym and used the shower there each morning, while the two women shared bathroom time in the cabin. They did the same in the evenings, when getting ready for dinner.

As for "alone time", they worked out some sort of a daytime schedule that suited all of them.

They all enjoyed their cruise and agreed that they would be happy to do the same again.

Sounds great but now add 2 more adults, one having a slight handicap...! Still haven't changed my mind that 5 is too many in one cabin esp for more than a week, with one being a senior getting up early and likely going to bed early and one with a slight mobility issue but the poster wishes to try it and I wish them all the best.

Please post here after your cruise - I am sure many would like to know how it all worked out - never know but perhaps then more will want to travel like sardines..:D

Please keep safe all & enjoy a great Xmas!! :)

  5. Any consideration being given to the fact that one of the adults is elderly and likely has to get up in the middle of the nite to use the bathroom, may take extra time in the bathroom & possibly has mobility issues that may curtail trips to & from the spa showers and likely naps during the daytime plus may want to retire early and get up early?

Plus what about privacy issues - some elderly do not like to dress/undress in front of others..

Have you ever shared such a small space before w/ an elderly person? Its a wonderful idea and gesture but must be handled carefully...IMO anyway.

I would think this out very carefully when for a few $s more in an inside cabin, it will allow the elderly pax to enjoy their own privacy on the cruise...as well as allowing others a wee bit more space/privacy also..Win/win situation...

For example: Sickness has been known to exist on cruises and so many in 1 cabin makes it even more possible & likely no inside cabins available once onboard if needed plus they are much more expensive than those booked in advance :(

If there is an argument anyone cld borrow the inside cabin for awhile just to 'cool' down or if someone also needed a nap during the day plus all that extra STORAGE, several cld dress in the inside cabin making more room to move in the original cabin and last but not least - 2 BATHROOMS! :)

Whatever you decide I sincerely hope you enjoy your cruise with no regrets on anyones part!!

Wishing all a very Merry Xmas, Happy Holidays & a safe wonderful New Year :)

  6. I've seen a lot of threads discussing the differences between breakfasts available in the different cabin classes:

    • Standard (Inside, outside, and veranda)
    • Concierge Class
    • Aqua Class
    • Suites

Some people even justify the differences (real or imagined) as a reason for picking one cabin category over another.

So on our recent cruise I collected all four different breakfast menus (the hang tag type) to post here.

Thanking you most sincerely for this great post! It is very helpful!!

Wishing you a great Xmas and a Happy New Year! :)

  7. Good thinking! Maybe you will let them sit on your balcony once in a while though, if they are very, very nice to you. :p

I think that most parents of adult children (at least in modern western societies) would feel awkward and uncomfortable at even the thought of sharing the bedroom of a young married couple that way, night after night.

If that was the only way I could go on a cruise, I would rather stay at home.

    /QUOTE]

    I'm with you also!

  8. I would strongly suggest at least considering the possibility of booking an inside cabin for your mother. It would make the cruise a lot more comfortable and pleasant for all of you.

Not only would it give her a regular bed to sleep in, and the additional bathroom and TV, but it would give you all more closet and drawer space, and most important of all, some privacy.

The three of you could still share the balcony and spend as much time together as you wish.

Maybe she would like to invite a friend along to share a cabin and share the cost, or maybe she would really enjoy having her own space to herself.

Also, if anyone gets sick on a cruise, having that additional room makes a huge difference.

    /QUOTE]

I so totally agree with you. Had a similar experience.

In fact someone did get sick on our blended age group trip in one Jr. suite (wasn't even a cabin) and we finally asked if there were any insides available - unfortunately there were none...

Don't older folks also still like to nap during the afternoon?

The cabin might be alright if 3/4 folks of approx the same age group get along very well and stay healthy for just 3-5 days, even 7 to 10 for the adventurous but never for different age groups & as long as 17 days...not in my opinion and experience anyway either!

If the poster decides to go for it then I wish them well and sincerely hope they are still speaking at the end of the cruise...but its 'risky' IMO just to save the cost of an inside cabin..

    Have great cruisin' all! :)

  9. Another poster asked twice regarding: does the Butler keep the food 'hot' when serving it in courses OR does he - is the food just served 'lukewarm' instead?

I wld also really like to know this please.

Really hope someone knows the answer.

    Thanks in advance..:)

  10. We've had 1060 on Radiance and didn't hear a thing from above in 14 nights. The cabin is under the outdoor seating area of the Windjammer, so it's possible that you'll hear chairs being dragged across the floor, but we didn't. There's no telling whether you'll hear the movies, but I doubt that they'll show them late unless there's a pool party (maybe one during the cruise), and even that would be over by midnight or so.

We've also had 1556, and I prefer that cabin - although 1060 has an enormous balcony, I didn't like the overhang from above. 1556 has a larger than normal balcony and, although it's fully covered, the cover doesn't extend past the balcony, so there's plenty of light in the cabin. It's a tiny bit smaller than a standard JS, but I enjoyed it. I wouldn't take 1554 - as soon as you step onto your balcony, almost every balcony cabin forward of you can see you. In 1556 you need to be at the railing before you're seen by others.

Appreciate this info re: 1060 although after the drydock its now under something else I believe -

    This is also where 3 of the OSs are also - 1062 - 1064 & 1066..

Anyone know what is going on with that area on the pool deck - aft of the elevators port side - maybe its now carpeted?

Actually mine is an 11 day cruise to a warm climate so I will assume they will do more than 1 movie - wldn't u agree?

However, what the heck - can't beat 'em then join 'em - I like movies & especially open air ones - reminds me of my misspent youth..Shucks, put some old car carcasses up there and most folks wld be happy to repeat their youth or try to anyway!! :D

Regarding your comments about 1554s balcony. Thanks for enlightning us!

So, 1556 is smaller than a standard JS - good to know..

Thanks so much for sharing all this..:)

  11. You would not, by chance.....be related to my old friend.......Marlene??

She is the one that could hear everything that went on.

Maybe I'm just a good sleeper..........and glad that you could have a laugh one me today!

And..........why do you keep trying for hump cabins that will give you so much noise?? Or did I read your post incorrectly??

We take GS's on the Radiace, and OS's on the Jewel and Serenade, as the cabin configuration is different.

    Rick

Don't know the lady..but I do wonder why u ask since it has nothing to do with my questions..?

Must have read it incorrectly - don't believe I stated that GS 1554 or 1556 are noisy - actually I asked if anyone wld comment on them as well as the regular ones...u suggested I try for one of them..

I do also but have done OSs on the Radiance which is why I am asking about the GSs on her now instead... :)

  12.

Royal Caribbean would not have their highest and best cabins, just under something that would keep everyone awake at night.

    Rick

    Giggle - giggle...:D

Of course they wldn't on the Serenade, Jewel or Brilliance either right?

Even some of the Owners Suites are noisy on the Radiance class ships - portside 1062 & 1064 below a hard surface - sounds of walking above & sometimes jumping (never cld figure out what that was all about since it was an eating area) and starboard 1564 in particular is right below the washrooms - constant flushing day & nite & its more expensive than a Grand Suite..:(

Good one & thanks for my laugh of the day!

I so agree that the hump cabins wld be great but ever tried to book it - have had one of those just twice after trying at least 7-8 times.

Tried for 2012 and guess what - booking opened & they were gone in 10 mins...even my TA was astonished - says likely they were already 'gone' before the booking opened :(

Ah well, got to get to know the 'right' people hmmm :)

    Have great future cruisin'!

  13. Appreciate this info - had posted before and gotten some great feedback but this is even more helpful..

Guess I shall have to post again now after folks have had a chance to try out the Radiance now that she has finished her drydock..Mostly concerned re: that new movie screen and possible noise factor with that for folks above..!

The privacy factor regarding the 1052 - 1050 & 1048 balconies being viewed from the CL may no longer exist because the balcon I believe, has been slightly reconfigured during its conversion to a 2 bedroom suite..Interesting to find out what gives with that issue now..:)

Many thanks to u all for sharing your experiences with me! :)

  14. Really need to know what u experienced if u stayed in GS 1048 - 1050 & 1550 and 1052 or 1552 and in 1060 just slightly aft of the elevators plus in a GS on the hump -1554 & 1556...Can't move to aft GS 1600 - need access to the elevators..

Perhaps shld try one of 1030 thru 1036 port or 1530 thru 1536 starboard more forward under the pool deck although that might even be worse..:O

Please help - am such a lite sleeper and DH isn't much better, am really concerned 'cause any noise above & we won't sleep well (tried earplugs once - didn't help much)..

Most grateful for ANY opinions/suggestions/experiences shared.. :)

  15. Booked in GS 1050 portside on Radiance and am concerned re: noise above on pool deck 'cause its just below the hot tubs & close to the new large movie screen..which has been installed above the band area.

Am cruising to a warm climate so late nite parties are inevitable as are chair/lounger moving in wee hrs of the mornings...

Am a very lite sleeper - can switch my suite to one away from the hot tub area on the starboard side instead so wld u recommend I do based on your personal experience (even before they installed the large screen)?

Really wld appreciate any opinions & advice with this..:)

  16. A windbreaker, golf jacket or sweatshirt jacket suggested with a t shirt for BREAKFAST? – Really????????

I almost 60 mass market cruises, I’ve never seen ANY jacket of ANY material or style required, expected or even suggested at breakfast or lunch in the MDR.

    M

Odd 'cause in my over 30 yrs of cruising (approx 76 I think :) cruises & counting) mass-market to luxury lines I have seen many ('casual' usually although occasionally the odd 'dress' jacket & sometimes even with a tie) jackets being worn in the MDR for both breakfast or lunch..If memory serves me, it was usually older folks in 'dress' jackets and also for embarkation & departure days..

I do not care what folks wear at least for breakfast or lunch, as long as it is reasonably tasteful (NO torn, smelly or dirty clothing please) and I believe most cruisers wld agree with me..

So OP - wear the T-shirt proudly and any kind of coverup u want to or might need to - those DRs can get chilly sometimes :)

    Have great cruisin' all! :)

  17. Steve, you know I'm not Vicki Freed; I've been posting here since 2003, and several CC members have met me in person.

What I posted is truly my opinion based on what I'm experiencing and seeing, so I don't know what the reference to a marketing staff person is supposed to mean????????

esp since there were no suggestions or comments regarding the issues - nothing better to do I guess :)

I certainly enjoyed your posts - always do. They are interesting and articulate - thanks for sharing..:)
