1. I'm happy to report that I just got off the Dream and had AFT connecting cabins 8436-8440. Both were tolerably cool...but, not cold. I had asked Carnival to have fans waiting in both cabins also and they were there waiting for us. We really needed the fans at night. Take your fans people! I was just happy that our cabins were not hot.

  2. We are on the Dream in a week. We are on the 8th deck towards AFT . We are also PORT side and I am now really concerned about this. We all hate the smell of cigarette smoke. Is the entire 5th deck for smokers? Or just a certain section of the 5th deck? I sure hope we can't smell it from our balcony!

I also wanted to know how your air conditioning worked in your cabin? We have read horror stories that the no matter how cold you try to make your room, it's still hot.

  3. Has anyone been to MOBAY recently? I am hearing that the taxi drivers are drunk and terrifying to ride with? I've also heard about a shuttle that goes to the "Hip Strip"? Where do I find this shuttle? Can I catch the shuttle on the way back to the ship? If so, where will I find it on the hip strip?

  4. Have used Sunset Beach Resort day pass two times. Buffet was included, plus hamburgers, in addition to all the drinks, alcohol and non-alcohol. It was very clean, and best part was only few minutes away from where our ship docked. We could see our ship from the hotel. There was a free shuttle from the dock to the resort. Check to see where your ship will be docking. We felt safe, and enjoyed our all day inclusive at their resort and beach.

Where can we find this "free" shuttle at the port to Sunset Beach?

  5. Lemmie know if you have any further questions, I'd be more than happy to assist. Hope you have a good time here!! :)

My family will be in Montego Bay in two weeks. We have done Montego Bay and Margaritaville before. Thought about Sunset Beach Resort this time? I've never been so torn on a port. Just don't know what to do safely there? Have heard so many reports of mean taxi drivers who won't take you where you ask to go?? Please help!

  6. Doctor's Cave Beach is a resort. You pay $6 to get in and $5 for umbrellas and chairs. I highly recommend it. The service is outstanding and so is the beach. Get there as soon as you get off of the ship and you will get a good spot at the beach.

We took the JUTA bus over and will never do that again. It was $5 a person but they try very hard to sell you on other places because they get kick backs. Do the Hop On, Hop Off... heard nothing but positive things about it and you can use your Sail and Sign cards.

We never attempted Margaritaville but it is right there near Dr Cave's. We had the Jerk Chicken at Dr's and it was good enough for me.

Where do you find the Hop On-Hop Off buses/shuttles?

  7. See cabana pic below. Beach and water entry is very nice and sandy.

The Cabana in this photo looks awfully small? Was it shaded in the cabana? None of us want to be in the sun too long. Did you feel like you had privacy away from the other cabanas next to you? How far was the swim up adult pool from the cabana area? Thank you!

  8. Update to post below about warm aft cabin Valor deck 7: My friend and I have been wondering if the problem in our aft cabin may have been due to our next door neighbor leaving their balcony door open in the evening. We noticed their door was open at least one evening. The temperature in the cabin would rise in the evening to 76 by midnight, then drop to low 70's by morning. Perhaps they closed the door at bedtime, thus enabling the air to cool. I have read some comments about open balcony doors causing a/c problems in an entire area. Another possibility is a maintenance issue as this boat was ready for dry docking. BTW, I'm curious how the a/c was on your previous Carnival cruises. Is this your first time in an aft cabin? We are still concerned about how to plan a future cruise because of potential a/c problems. My only experience was 9 years ago in a fore cabin, which was nice and cool, although no balcony which could have the abovementioned problem.

We have always had our cabins from midship to aft. Only once did we try a forward cabin and we just didn't like the location (but the room was very cold and just how we like it).

I just don't understand why people open their balcony doors and let in all that humidity and hot air??

  9. No, there's not much in the port area but a few shops. It might be possible to have your tour company drop you off at Doctor's Cave Beach or Margaritaville. Then you would just need to taxi back to the ship. It's worth asking!

Are there taxis readily available on the strip to get back to the ship on time?

  10. If you really want this to have any meaning to Carnival in terms of expressing a "class action" note of displeasure, you need to record the air temperature coming out of the air vents as well as the cabin temperature.

The 70-74*F range is a hotel industry standard, and means that as long as the cabin is that temperature, Carnival will not consider any compensation.

I stay in hotels all year long and always keep the temp at 65 degrees. I have never been in a hotel that told me I had to keep the temp above 70.

Carnival should let their paying passengers decide what the right temperature is for them in their cabins. Some like it colder......some like it warmer.......but, let US decide!

  11. My wife and I were just in Montego Bay in October. We took the shuttle from the cruise pier to the hip strip (I think it was $5.00 each). We spent the day at Doctor's Cave Beach. Love it there. Nice beach with good snorkeling, reasonably priced drinks, and good food.

From there, we walked the hip strip down to Margaritaville - which was way to crowded to go into. So we grabbed a red plate cab back to the pier.

Were you constantly pestered by locals once you paid and entered Dr. Cave Beach? Or do they allow soliciting on the beach? Are there shaded areas? Do they have chairs and umbrellas for sale? Snorkeling equipment for sale? What kind of food was offered and were the drinks reasonably priced?

  12. Did you have any problem with the AC? We have a block of cabins around cabin 8269 leaving on Feb 15 and there lots of complaints about the AC. I hope they have it fixed!

Pizzaman...........please let us know how your air conditioning was. Cruising in February, you probably won't have a problem.......but, we cruise in July and I just dread it if we don't have adequate air in the cabins.

  13. Woke up and prepared myself for irie mon beach party. Didnt really have time to eat so i just went to lido to get quava orange mixed punch. Delicious, highlight of my mornings

We get off ship and sign in to begin our excursion. Only left 5 minutes after scheduled time which i think is pretty good.

Liked the whole experience. I felt safe on the beach, the few vendors were not pushy. Island music played the whole time, there were games like vollyball and musical hoola hoop. They offered massages on the beach which i thought were slightly overpriced since we were not at a resort but my husband enjoyes it. Lunch eeh. Burgers with no cheese option. Chicken, pork, rice and peas. May sound like a lot but i was just expecting something better. Kinda felt low end. Im a foodie so im always looking forward to the meal. Im kinda glad the food wasnt multiple trip worthy because i was doing chef table and didnt want to overeat.

I guess i was dissapointed because while we waited i saw men carrying large platters of food but i guess that wasnt for our group.

My husband however thought the food was excellent.

I would give the irie beach party excusrion a 4.5 and thats only because the food was slightly dissapointing. The rest of the experience was excellent. Beautiful beach, kind staff, drinks plentiful.

Was the Irie Beach Party in Montego Bay? Couldn't tell what port you were in? Sorry if you said it and I missed it.

  14. All great info.......thank you everyone! I had no idea I could get REAL lemon juice already squeezed. The yellow lemon shaped bottle of lemon juice next to the REAL lemons in the grocery store just doesn't work the same (tastes the same, but does not cut down on swelling or help blood pressure).

I will start my search for the real stuff. Thanks!

  15. Yes it is. It is by far the best burger that I have ever eaten. You're going on the Norwegian Dawn in a couple weeks go there for lunch after your cruise. Just show him my pics and let my pics do the convincing for ya....haha.

And thank you for reading my reviews :)

We will be on the Dream in late June, and I wanted to find a burger/steak joint near our hotel in the French Quarter. I looked up Port of Call which we could probably walk to. The photos look like there are no individual tables to eat at though? It looked like it was just one long big bar?

  16. Hi losbun, as you walk back along the beach (from Cemetery back to Calico Jack's), there are smaller hotel type places, but I don't remember any bar/restaurant options (if that is what you mean). We specifically intended to go to Calico Jack's, somewhat of a tradition for us.

You did not have to go far out in the water at all at Cemetery to see something interesting.

    Have fun.

Does Calico Jacks have music playing during the day?
