  1. We had booked two cruises about 11 months out that were back to back - Chile to Papeete 18 day and Papeete to Papeete 10 day (January 2019). We wanted a ocean view and the first cruise in that category had all been booked so we took the guarantee and we ended up with a balcony. We never knew our cabin number until we boarded the ship. The second cruise we were able to get the cabin we wanted . We obviously had to move cabins after the first cruise - but our cabin steward did this for us. We had to pack everything up but it was no big deal.
  2. FROM DAVID THE WONDERER "Sigh .. what was I thinking? In terms of sea day activities, I had a poor experience with a TA on Riviera and reported on it. The report included the fact that I didn't think it was typical, and ascribed it to an incompetent cruise director. But the venom directed at my post, ranging from ad hominem attacks along the lines of "you obviously didn't really experience what you experienced" to "how dare you criticise Oceania" were a reminder of why all over Cruise Critic the Oceania board is well-known to be the most toxic of the them all.The good news for people considering a cruise is that those people on this board are not representative of the passengers on the actual ships, who are typically social, well-traveled, and a pleasure to be around." David the Wonderer - WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Are people not allowed to have opinions and does everyone always have to agree. People can state their opinions and be respectful. No one on this board is "toxic" as you call it.
  3. CC needs to fix the roll call. I posted our Marina - September 2020 cruise to the Baltic countries and you have to go searching for it. I have asked CC I think twice could they put the roll call properly in to the roll call and not where everyone is making comments. They have not done it yet. I think it has been five months now. This could be the problem - people can't find their roll calls!
  4. We have taken 5 Oceania cruises and enjoyed them all. The most important things to us is the itinerary, staff and the people we have met on board. I enjoy good food which sometimes I feel even when not cruising is best served at my house. Hehe! The food in the grand dining room I feel is pretty good - definitely not 3 star. The specialty restaurants I would say are better. I am really annoyed that in the main dining room they now serve sirloin steak and not striploin. Who wants to eat that. The buffet has a very good selection every day. I think the ice cream in the buffet could be ice cream and not ice milk. When we were on our B2B cruises in January, Chile to Papeete and a 10 day Papeete to Papeete - there was definitely a different vibe on board. The band on board up in Horizons was fabulous, I think they were from Brazil. We don't normally dance but we did on that cruise. We never go to the shows at night so that is not at all important to us. All the specialty restaurants were full on the 10 day cruises so if you wanted any extra dining reservations you could only get 9pm dining. All in all Oceania is a good choice for us. We feel we are well cared for when cruising with Oceania. We typically cruise in an oceanview or balcony and have never felt that we were treated any differently than anyone else. Just thought I would add my two cents.
  5. WOW just WOW!! I enjoyed every word and every photo!! Your review is sooo impressive and thorough and entertaining and interesting!! It was our pleasure to have met you and your wife - Clayton and I really enjoyed our day with you. Lauren
  6. Re Coral Cuts My husband got about six cuts from coral, two or three looked quite significant. He washed them for 15 minutes in the shower using the hand held nozzle. Yes it was a pain but he stayed in the shower for the full 15 minutes washing them well. We also bought the Tamanu oil in Bora Bora and applied it after cleaning them. He is on blood thinners because of blood clots and he had no problems at all. We had brought with us a prescription from our doctor just in case we did get cut from coral, but he never had to take them. I think you just have to wash them thoroughly and I mean thoroughly. Do not think a few minutes are ok, do it well. He never used any antibiotic cream, bandages. They healed beautifully I think because he cleaned them really well and used that Tamanu oil. I also got cuts and did the same as my husband and healed with no problems.
  7. Fakarava - my husband remembered that there is a beach down the road about 100 to 150 meters. We never knew about this beach until we were leaving Fakarava but another passenger told us that they had gone there for the day.
  8. Hi Mrs f. - Thank you for the kind offer, I have now sent you an email.
  9. Ours left at 12:30am - we had been delayed an hour. We took the air with Oceania. Also we had a lot of OBC so we took the day room at a hotel through Oceania which I think costs $175 each, we just booked this while on the Marina. They had water, juice, sandwiches, desserts, free of charge. We paid for our lunch at the hotel restaurant. Also if you wanted to go on a tour they provided that for an extra charge.
  10. Bob - Yes those sweatshirts are a fortune in Big O Points - hehe! Our last cruise in January he got one like I said for 10 points but there were only 3x available - I think that is why they were so "cheap". He is quite tall so they fit him like yours.
  11. Mrs F. - My husband and I are taking the Oceania Cape Town to Singapore in 2021 and was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing some of your tour companies you used for your cruise. I think I saw you contributing to the 2020 cruise. Thanks Lauren
  12. Bob et al really enjoy reading each and every day your adventures!! Now as to that sweatshirt you were wearing Bob, did you get that with your Big O Points. My husband got one very similar to yours with 10 Big O Points. Great Deal!!
  13. ducruiser01 We went to Luxor for two days in 2018 and I found out that the Valley of Kings opens at 6am. So we were picked up at 5:15am by our tour company, Love Egypt Tours. We were the only people in the tombs and we saw every tomb that was open for the day. It was truly spectacular to see and take our time in each tomb.
  14. From "Hawaiidan" Just a reminder..... EVERYONE in Bora Bora who has a boat and does a tour...goes to the SAME spots. No one has any special secret spots. Thus other than the boat its self there are really no difference in your experience That said the best Bora experience is the Wave Runner tour ! In picking a tour there is a huge tourist pavilion where the tenders come in will have dozens of vendors. However, this will NOT be the case for most of the other ports...Taxi's are few Don't expect the smaller islands to be all that developed.... The ship will overwhelm most ports...." Actually Hawaiidan that was not the case with me and my husband. We did Patrick's tour and it was completely different that Tohora Bora Bora's. Tohora Bora Bora's we went to a coral garden that was a "drift" snorkel but not so with Patrick's tour. Patrick's we went to his motu and swam with some sharks, swam over a small coral area, no small fish area. So two completely different tours and sights.
