  1. @gnome12, I didn't know that. Thanks for informing me, and thanks for the morning chuckle re: Labour.
  2. @Host Jazzbeau, thanks for the link to the article. I can see how lines who are embarking in Amsterdam and then heading to Germany can reconfigure their itineraries, although to me not being able to tour Amsterdam, either with the cruise line or independently, is a loss. My Tauck cruise in December only covers Holland and Belgium, so I don't see how it can be reconfigured.
  3. @ChrisB123, maybe try the forums for American Cruise Line and American Queen Steamboat Company. I 've always been interested in the Lewis & Clark expedition. If my oversees cruises continue to fall through, and friend and I my book one of the Columbia River cruises that includes Lewis & Clark sites. A bit of trivia, did you know Meriwether Lewis is buried in Hohenwald, TN outside of Nashville? There's a national park there that I've visited several times.
  4. I sent an email to my travel agent to find out what she's heard. She said the river cruise companies are trying to work something out with the govts. involved for cruise passengers. Not exactly sure what that would entail. Maybe arriving the day of embarkation and having the cruise line shuttle passengers from the airport to the ship? Travel these days is like having a second job. Happy Labor Day to all our US CC members.
  5. @Shmoo here, I share your frustration. It's impossible to plan anything in advance. I feel like my entire life is on hold.
  6. Unvaccinated adults who come down with Covid, plus children contracting the Delta variant.
  7. I won't be going if I have to sit in a hotel in Amsterdam for 5 days staring at the walls and going crazy. Does the eMed BinaxNOW test work in a foreign country?
  8. What HAL itineraries will be changing? How can a person in quarantine get a Covid test? Does someone come to your hotel?
  9. I have a river cruise booked in December that leaves from Amsterdam and visits 4 ports in the Netherland and 4 in Belgium. I'm going to cancel if the cruise line doesn't, because I can't afford the time or money to quarantine for 5-10 days in Amsterdam plus 3 expensive Covid tests. This is getting to be ridiculous.
  10. Assuming you disembark near Centraal Station, it's about 10.5 miles or half an hour drive. If it's a weekday, you'll be going the opposite direction of rush hour traffic.
  11. @BPCruiser, if you're not going to be in the airport more than 12 hours, I don't think you'll have a problem in Amsterdam, but things seem to be changing by the hour so stay tuned.
  12. @conmanwhat cruise line and what itinerary?
  13. @Lois R, the cruise only sails thru the Netherlands and Belgium, so I'm guessing the cruise will be canceled if half the ports can't be visited.
  14. I'm supposed to take a cruise from Amsterdam embarking Dec. 6. My flights are booked and I was planning on spending 3 days pre-cruise in Amsterdam. Guess that's not going to happen, because I'm not going to spend my time there sitting in a hotel room. What a mess! Fly in the day of embarkation?
  15. Houma got hit really bad by Ida. I hope the ship didn't suffer damage.
  16. This happened to a friend's father. He stayed for 2 wks. at a hotel in FL that's only open during peak tourist season. He came down with Legionnaire's when he got home to PA. County health dept. tore his house apart and that of his daughter looking for the source. Working with officials in FL, they traced it to the shower head of the hotel room where he stayed.
  17. I've never witnessed this, but I'll take your word for it that it's happened to your family. I'm in my late 60s and childless, and I enjoy seeing children on the ship and families enjoying themselves.
  18. They've left a lot of people in the lurch as far as Covid testing.
  19. How would I accomplish this with a suitcase and a carry on?
  20. @NavyCruiser, so is it the airline, The Netherlands, or Viking that's requiring the test? I'm confused.
  21. That's why I've already started scoping out testing sites in Amsterdam for my upcoming December cruise. Right now I don't need a test prior to boarding but I know that could change at any time.
  22. The ocean cruise lines are saying 72 hrs. (or sometimes 3 days) before boarding the ship. I'm leaving home on Dec. 3, arriving in Amsterdam on Dec. 4, and boarding my ship the afternoon of Dec. 6. I've already scoped out places in Amsterdam that offer the test to travelers. The test is expensive, I don't know if the test sites are open on weekends, and I would need assurance I would have the results back in time if Tauck decides to require pre-testing.
  23. Likewise, @Mary229. This will be my retirement cruise, so I'm hoping it's a go. I booked the first day it became available. We have several people on the roll call who moved their 2022 cruise to 2023.
