Please think about those who are having to deal with people having mental  health issues at the moment.  My sister just called me, she has been out this evening because one of her patients' has had a melt down because he can't go out, she now has a cast on her arm.  We are sitting around thinking about cruises that we are missing others have bigger problems.

I think we are well aware of people’s problems in fact some on here have mentioned issues on this thread.

I have a couple of friends who’ve been having some down days and problems. We’re not trivialising it we are just trying to lighten the gloom a bit.

Sorry about your sister, must be awful for her. My friend’s daughter is a nurse and she comes home crying most nights.

Maybe that's a good sign then Sue 😄.  I only really look at the itineraries for Aurora and Arcadia and as I have a long cruise booked for the early part of next year, only really looked at September & October.

From what I remember Britannia’s med itinerary doesn’t have Gibraltar in it but Ventura’s has. So that explains why you didn’t notice!

Gibraltar?  Fish & Chips and a beer.  Mind you, if the ship is doing a decent deal on Duty Free Gin, I don't even bother getting off the ship there...  I'm hoping against hope that P&O will stop calling there so often once Brexit has actually happened but I doubt it as the fuel will probably still be cheap 🙁

I have noticed there’s quite a few P&O Med cruises next year that aren’t going to Gibraltar!

Do you book via a travel agent by any chance?

We book direct so the odd time we have to contact them and it’s easier (and you have a written confirmation of the reply) if you do it by email.

    No I’ve always booked direct.

  5. I’m doing most of my food shopping in M&S at the money as that’s what my mum likes (she is an ex M&S employee) and it’s quite controlled and calm in there. Yes it’s a bit more expensive but as Dai says I’m not spending money on anything else at the moment, all the coffees and lunches out I used to enjoy!

Michelle is the same, she genuinely can't see a time when she will want to leave the house..

    Very worrying times.

  8. The biggest change for me is not working (should be home working soon which will be different), not seeing my grandson ( I normally look after him every Wednesday and he’s nearly 18 months) and having to shop for my parents.

John works in a Waitrose warehouse so nothing has changed much for him bless him. He had the long Easter weekend off so he loved pottering about the house and garden. Normally I’d be bugging him to go for a day out to the coast or a NT property! He was really sad to go back to work and I wish he could stay home in our bubble. I’m finding I really don’t like going out at all, I think some of us will stay home more after this is over.

One of my friends is getting bored at home but I really haven’t been, I’m quite content pottering about especially if the weather is good.

I know we’re lucky in that we still have money coming in but that doesn’t stop me worrying for him in case he catches it at work.I also worry about my parents (80 & 82) and my son who works for Sainsbury’s.

  9. A very very nice Open Reach engineer came and fixed my landline/ WiFi Thursday!! Oh the joy! My doorbell went mental and wouldn’t stop ringing so he kindly took the battery out for me too! He sorted it all in under 20 minutes.

The day before I went into work and collected my pc etc and I’m all set up at home ready for home working. I’ve got to wait for a call next week as they didn’t let me take a phone for some reason but hopefully I’ll be working soon.

Shops quite well stocked here now but I hate all the queuing for the supermarkets. I’ve got a local Coop but I feel harassed in there as if you stop to look at anything people start backing up like dominoes!

  10. How very odd! I haven’t emailed p&o ever I don’t think.
I did get a promotional one the other day with ‘news from Captain Dunlop ‘ and I thought there might be some exciting Iona news - but no!

I did get a ‘happy Easter’ one which was a bit upsetting seeings as I should of been on a cruise that weekend!

  11. Our last cruise was our only Non P&O cruise, I really hope it’s not our last ever cruise!
It was very eventful, it was a 7 night one to Copenhagen, Skagen, Oslo and Zeebrugge. We missed Skagen due to high winds (it was July!) and it took us 2 hours to be pushed into Copenhagen by two tugs also due to the wind!

Oslo we had a drama with a downpour while we waited for an open top bus and missed two because everyone was pushing and shoving and we couldn’t get on!

We relaxed into the ship (Princess Sapphire) by the end of the week but there were various things that annoyed me! The entertainment was very good with an excellent Beatles band who played on top deck as we left Copenhagen.
They had a champagne waterfall and a balloon drop but both times I  did think ‘what a waste!’
In summery I couldn’t wait to go back to P&O and now we can’t 😩

When I don't fancy an alcoholic beer, there is nothing finer than a well chilled can of Fentiman's ginger beer, it brings back loads of childhood memories, as well as being delightfully refreshing.

Aah ginger beer! Reminds me of my childhood too , now and again I have one but nothing is as good the home made stuff my Nan used to make!

We were on her last cruise in Barbados before she sailed back to Southampton and to be honest we only got a slight smell of sewage on one occasion, walking through the malibar.hope your cruise goes ahead, fingers crossed.

    That’s good to know Gezza.

  14. My hubby’s cruise cocktail is definitely a White Russian, I like it but when it was a bit rough once it made me feel nauseous!

I definitely love a glass of Zinfandel in the MDR  - I couldn’t believe how dark it was, looked almost red - was delicious though!

Cocktails I tend to try different ones depending on my mood!

On Britannia they did a delicious orange gin! Have had trouble finding it since though.

  15. Well things are happening on the work front. Out of the blue my manager phoned and said could I come into the office and collect my equipment to take home with me! So I now have a keyboard two monitors and reams of cable to sort out!! Poor old John is moving a desk so we can set it all up.

The engineer is supposed to be sorting my internet tomorrow (fingers crossed) so them I’ll be good to go!
Lovely and sunny here today but cold if out of the sun.

The Liner Hotel just behind Lime St station is worth considering too. Convenient location, free parking (unlike most other in city) and a nautical theme. Also reasonably priced as long as there isn’t a match on...

    That deserves a 😂

I’ve stayed at the Liner hotel, the nautical theme is brilliant - the floors are called decks!

After asking P&O when Azura's refit would now take place, this is their reply.

    "Hi,

We are continuing to monitor the situation with Covid 19 and the impact that this is having on our sailings.

Once we have a clearer idea of when sailings can potentially resume then we will know more about Azura's refit."

Thanks for  posting that John, even though it doesn’t really tell us much!

Sorry, was thinking of the cabin we had last time. Can only go on our experience this time last year when the cruise was faultless. Seems a long time ago now though. We have booked a similar cabin for next April (corner aft but on the other side) so I suppose a terrible smell would make a difference!

At the moment though, I doubt we will be going 😞

Not even in April? I’m thinking with every day that passes my October one won’t happen which is very sad as it’s my husband’s 60th and it’s been booked for nearly two years!

We were on Azura last April and had a wonderful time. Can't remember a smell and our cabin (right at the aft) was amazing. Have already booked for April 2021 and pray that we can revisit her. We would be happy with or without a refurb

I would normally agree with your last sentence but if there was a strong sewage smell (and especially in our cabin) it would spoil my cruise!

OMG we have just booked Azura May 2021 in place of our cancelled May 2020 cruise

we decided on 2 weeks instead of 1 week on this time

reading about these smells im devastated to realise weve booked such a ***** ship

I’ve  been on Azura three times and never had a problem and had fantastic cruises each time. I just had heard reports recently about the smell but knew a refit was planned for about now. That’s why I was asking - it’s not a ***** ship!

Only use a debit card and no longer a credit card but just wondering whether any refund credited to your credit card account is automatically used to clear any balance owed, however caused, rather than credited back to your bank in full, thereby leaving a credit card balance owing? If a debit card is used and a refund credited to the bank, if the account is overdrawn, this will be cleared first. Not wanting to cause alarm but I am curious. Of course, if a credit card is paid off in full every month, just like a bank account that is not overdrawn, this will not apply.

As someone who until last year worked in banking - it is not possible for the banks to clear one account from another. Your credit card and cheque account are treated separately and the banks have no powers to transfer money between your accounts. (Unless of course you have a regular standing order set up)
