  1. We had deck 9 which has the biggest balcony.  Deck 12 was next.  Deck 11 is a different configuration.

If you do a search, there are some very detailed descriptions of the differences.  We love aft.  It's a short walk to the elevator and up to the Haven.  No Haven suite has that panoramic aft view. To us it is definitely the best of both worlds.

I feel your pain, as I just went through the same thing. There are only 3 sailings out of Miami end of 2022. So when I was able to snag any H4, I was thrilled. Then I saw the little wording about deck 10 which I had.  I kept checking and checking and the next day on the third sailing another H4 opened. It was deck 12.  I never typed so fast in my life hoping it wouldn't be gone by the time I hit purchase.

My point.....don't give up on deck 12.  Keep checking.....sometimes they open up.

We also are holding spots on both ships for a partial transit of the canal.  We have been to most of the Western Caribbean ports; and have never been to any of the "ABC" islands.

Right now, we are inclined to go with the Joy.  First, it is $2K less than the Encore (at least it was when we booked both). It's possible the Encore would go down in price, but we will have to see.

Second, there would be new ports for us on both ship itineraries.  We are not sure whether mostly new ports would be "too much of a good thing." We often stay on the ship during port days (love the sea days on trans-Atlantic cruises).  On the Joy, we will have port-intensive days intermingled with "whatever" days.  We have not been on either ship, but typically find enough to do on the Getaway class of ships -- another reason we may skip the "ABC" islands on this trip.

I screwed up on my dates.  The Encore Jan 16th is the same price as Joy Feb 16th.  Encore Feb is $2k more.  If you can go Jan that is the one I think is best.  But there is a huge difference in the Joy/Encore in Feb.

  4. There’s only two things that really make the plus worth it. If you’re a champagne lover, or appreciate the expensive scotch, brandy etc.  I drank 6-8 glasses of Veuve @ $35 which would be +$20x7=$140. Cost me $29. Plus bottle water at meals, small bottles to bring yo room, fresh oj and capaccino every night.  My hubby drank MAcallan which was also $35/drink.  Sometimes I ordered a bottle of Moët instead of Veuve by the glass to have it handy and cold. But sometimes after one glass of Veuve, they’d just bring The bottle.    Service with a smile was their motto

otherwise for regular nice drinks the regular pkg is fine. A few waters, capaccino etc won’t cost you $500 for the week

I guess I was kind of vague. The NCL Encore. We travel alone. Usually travel Oceania, Crystal and Viking. But cruised on the MSC Yacht Club with 5000 other pax.

And it was fine. We are older than dirt but that doesn’t bother us. Just want own restaurant and lounge etc.

Just got off the Encore on the 2/2 cruise.  We are a couple in our late 60's.  We booked a Haven aft suite and wouldn't have traded it for the world.  How can I explain why our cruise was so great?  I was treated like a movie star.  The Haven restaurant is so amazing, that if I had to do it over again, I don't know if I'd eat anywhere else.   The attitude of the staff was gracious and white glove.  We upgraded to the premium plus beverage, as we like to indulge in our drinks.  It was totally amazing.  I've been home 2 days and it's like it was a dream.  The escort service to any shows, the getting on/off of the ship. The Concierge desk that is there to help you with anything.  I've traveled on Crystal, Silversea and Seabourn before, but never made to feel as important and doted on as I did last week.  Any questions, feel free to ask.

I think it is too early to tell. Just off of the Breakaway for 21 days last week and they were starting to do measures for the Coronavirus the last day.  Not going to do a review but if I get time want to do a comparison to MSC which we did 21 days in Dec. Hint ... Hint... MSC won hands down...especially on spa and food

Was it Haven vs Yacht Club?

  7. Two quick questions.  Are the only free bottles the 15 or so listed?   Are there any dry whites in the list?  Yes I’m going to think outside the box and try plenty. This is a wine tasting time, I wil try the Chenin Blanc.  Did you see any others by the glass that are worthy?  I feel like I’m spending a lot and not getting great choices. Appreciate your input plus I used to be exit 145😀

I’m in the fine wine business in NJ, and tend to be a little bit snobbish when it’s comes to drinking wine off a list.  We were on Breakaway last year, upgraded to the PPBP, really did enjoy it, mainly because the Veuve bottles, which seems to have come off the PPBP program by the bottle, and replaced with Moët, which is not a bad deal.  However, with the PPBP, you can still get Veuve by the glass, and I’m going to have them bring me 2 glasses at a time, as I will for my wife when we’re back on Breakaway in April.

That being said....Looking at the new updated wine list, without the PPBP, wine drinkers will have a difficult time finding something by the glass that is worthy of drinking.  I do sell a few of the wines on the list, have them frequently, but either not available by the glass, or not available with the PPBP by the bottle.  Therefore, for us, it’s a no brained to upgrade.  Granted, my next cruise is a 4 night, and it’s only $140pp, its easily worth it, and will definitely take advantage.

Don’t forget that by upgrading, you also get Starbucks, specialty coffee at dinner, along with Pelligrino Sparkling and Aqua Panna (IIRC) still water at dinner, bottled water at the bars, and better quality liquors.  Put it all together, and you have one heck of a great time!!!

So I upgraded to the PPBP because I like to drink Veuve, or I'll try the Moet.  However, if after spending all this money, I want a glass of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, which isn't very expensive.....do I understand correctly that I have to pay for the bottle less 40%?  What is the thinking behind free Moet by the bottle but not a bottle of wine that cost half as much?  Doesn't seem right that after paying $500 for us to upgrade the pkg., I still have to pay for a mid priced white wine that they have.

  9. So do you think that they are buying different filets for Cagney's vs. Onda,Le Bistro or the Haven?

I'm not sure why people say the filet is so much better in Onda or one of the others.

I could see the filet being different in the main dining room, but do you think they order different

qualities for each of the specialty restaurants?
