  1. We are sailing out of Charleston on July 8th. My question is this:  when we return to port on Saturday morning, our flight does not leave until 4:30.I am searching for an excursion that will show us something with our luggage and take us to the airport.  All other ports have offered this. I hate to sit at the airport all day.I did make  11:00 brunch reservations at Fleet Landing but sure hate to roll that luggage in the restaurant.  Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

  2. We are cruising out of Charleston on July 8th and return on the 13th.  Here is my question, I am looking for a possible tour from the port (where I can take my luggage) and a drop off at the airport.  I have contacted a couple of tour companies and they dont offer that service.  Any ideas of what to do during the day with our luggage prior to a 4:30 flight home?  Thanks so much

  3. I have a question. We are sailing on the Sunshine on July 7th.  My question is this, does anyone know of an excursion, hop off, hop on bus that would take care of our luggage so that we would not have to sit at the airport all day post cruise?

    Thanks so much

  4. I am looking for an excursion that will give us a tour while keeping our luggage prior to taking us to the Charleston airport.  We have done this several times at other ports but Carnival is only showing the bus transportation to the airport. Does anyone have suggestions of things to do while we are waiting for our evening flight?  Thanks so much in advance.

  5. Hi its me again. Its time for my Thursday, July 7th review of Aruba. We have been here a few times, loved it then and still love it now.

We arrived in Aruba at 8:00 am and had to be back on board by 3:30. I did a lot of research before this cruise and once again turned to Shore Excursioner and booked the Occidental Grand all inclusive hotel. This was about 70pp and really worth it. We had to take a taxi on our own (aprox 14 per way for 2).

When we arrived there were several ship folks checking in also. We were given arm bands and the use of 2 towels for the day. It was a beautiful beach and pool. This day included all drinks and food. We would love to fly here and stay for a week. Absolutely no one bothered us trying to sell anything all day. There were many Iguana's on the property that made for great picture taking and would be so fun for the kids.

There was a swim up bar as well as a bar on the beach. The lunch was served in the restaurant and was really good. There was Mexican buffet as well as really good fish and salad bar. The drinks were extra yummy ordered in the restaurant.

It was such a beautiful day and so relaxing. We arrived back at the ship and met our great friends Sam and Beth for dinner at 6:00. Again, the food on the Carnival was very good and we had no complaints.

We then went to the 80's show after dinner and it was not to be missed. We hit the piano bar after the show and had a fun time. Back to the cabin and the balcony.

Friday, July 8th and Saturday July 9th - Sea Day

What a great day at the aft pool with all of our new friends. I love the sun and the husband loves the shade. We get along just fine. haha

Friday evening we again met our friends for dinner and then went to the Rock and Roll Piano Show in the main theater. It is not to be missed. After the show we attended the Joe Marlotti comedy show and enjoyed it.

We love the sea days and this itinery is one reason we booked this ship.

Saturday - A wonderful repeat of Friday. I loved the 8 day as that that last sea day really felt like a bonus. The day was wonderful. We met Sam and Beth for dinner for our last dinner on board. We attended the Epic Rock show followed by Russ Nagel comedy. Both were very good. It was hard to say goodbye to friends but we hope to stay in touch and perhaps meet up again.

We packed and put our luggage out in the hall. Also hard to say bye to the balcony and the fun times onboard.

Sunday - We booked a ship excursion from CC for the hop on hop off bus. Our flight back to Nashville was out of Fort Lauderdale so we booked one that had us off the ship at 8:00. After we claimed our luggage (this was very difficult as they had put some of ours on the wrong luggage mover) and met the bus. They took us to the bus depot and we dropped off our luggage. We then had the option of 3 tours. We chose the downtown and neighborhood tour. We did not have time to hop off so we just enjoyed the 1 1/2 tour. They give you earbuds so on top you can hear clearly. We arrived back at the terminal which was at the Bayside mall. We grabbed some lunch there and went back to get our luggage at noon to head to the airport for our 315 flight. The time was perfect and we are glad that we did not sit at the airport all day. This tour was 50 pp.

We sure had a wonderful cruise and are now on countdown for our NCL cruise on the Escape for next July. Happy Cruising everyone,

  6. Its me again continuing my review. Today is Wed, July 6th and we will be arriving at the Curacao port. We are arriving at 1:00 and need to be back on board by 9:30pm for a 10:00 sailaway. I have been looking forward to this port as we will be there after dark and it is such a beautiful port.

This morning we ate breakfast on the Lido deck and there was a little rain. I later learned that Curacao does not get much rain so the residents were pretty happy. The scenary is so beautiful and I so enjoyed taking pictures from the upper deck as well as from our balcony. Today we took an independent tour with Shore Excursioner. The name of this tour was East Side and City Highlights.. We met the rep at 1:45 for the next 2 1/2 hours. This tour was around 30.00 pp,

Our tour guide did a great job taking us all over the city. The bldgs. are so colorful. We stopped at several spots for pictures and attended the Curacao liquor factory that was very interesting. There are several color choices and as I understand they all taste the same but have different food colorings added. We bought one blue bottle.

Upon return to the ship, my husband and I walked across the swinging bridge and stopped at a little café by the water and split an appetizer and had a drink. So fun and relaxing. I wanted pictures after dark as the place is just magical. There is a shop that sells Blue Danube china and I always purchase something there. The prices are really good and I enjoy it so when returning home. This trip I bought a pair of earrings and a sugar and creamer set as well as a hand painted mug. In fact, I have used every morning for coffee since I have been home.

We then walked along the path with such beautiful views of the ship (great picture opportunity) and took those night pictures from the top of the fort. Again, don't miss this port. It is a very walkable city but you will see more of the "big picture" utilizing a tour. It is so obvious that these people are so proud of their home and everything is so clean and upkept well.

On the walk back to the ship, our plan was to go to the buffet but all of a sudden, a cruise couple stopped us on the way in (strangers but not for long) and we ended up spending all of the allowed port time with them at a little bar. We met new friends and enjoyed this unexpected event. Upon arrival back on ship we went to the pizza place and took it back to the cabin and ate on the balcony while looking at this pretty city from our balcony. We did not do anything on board tonight as we had had a full day at this nice port into the night.

Hope everyone has a great day. I will continue tomorrow with my Aruba review.

    Carlakruz out!

  7. We just returned from the Carnival Spendor and spent a day in Grand Turk. Wonderful day. Loved loved loved this port. The ocean was nice, a little rocky but the rocks were large and smooth and easy to navigate. Next time we will bring our snorkel equipment. We were the only ship in port and spent most of the day at the pool. There was a DJ that made the day so much fun. We were there on the 4th of July and they even played the National anthem which was nice.

don't miss the 5:00 somewhere clock margarita holder. Its 25.00 with 1250 refills. Feels kinda weird to start that at 8:00 am as we arrived at 7 and left at 1. haha

Wonderful day to just relax and enjoy!!!! I would love to return very soon.

  8. yes, we just returned to Miami on the Splendor and bought the hop on hop off excursion from Carnival. It was great. It was 50pp, they took ccare of luggage and we toured the city. We had a 3:30 flight so took the bus to FT Lauderdale at noon with plenty of time to spare.

  9. I had a little time this afternoon and thought that I would write about our Tuesday, July 5th at La Ramona. I heard lots of complaints from fellow passengers concerned about their safety at this port. We experienced the exact opposite and I am glad.

This port is the main reason we selected this cruise. We traveled to an all inclusive resort in the Dom Rep a few years ago and loved it. The only issue we had the 1st time was drinking the water while on excursions so we decided not to do that again. We were excited that this was port stop.

We were up bright and early today and went to the lido for breakfast. My husband ate the egg benedict EVERY day and was so happy. I on the other hand either ate a bowl of cereal or a small muffin with my coffee. We were both happy and that makes for a great time. haha We took some awesome pictures upstairs and easily and quickly exited the ship.

We booked a ship excursion for this port as I was a little anxious due to the read reports during my research. We booked the Top 10 best of La Romana and wow did we make the right choice.

The tour guide was fantastic doing the top 10 like Letterman does. We were in a nice air conditioned bus and went to the town center. We drove by the Santa Rosa de Lima church and then headed to the Altos de Chavon which is a village that looks like a 6th century Mediterranean village. This is set over the Chavon River. It is absolutely beautiful and not to be missed. I sure would like to spend more time here as they had lots of cute restaurants. You will feel like you are in Europe. We then went to a cigar factory that I was not really excited about pre tour but really enjoyed it. My husband purchased some kind of alcohol with leaves in it. It is called Mama Juana and has aphrodisiac on the bottle. It as originally an herbal tea by the native Taimo Indians, after Christopher Columbus arrived alcohol was added. Everyone was terribly excited to purchase some. As of yet, its still on the den shelf. haha

Our next stop was the professional baseball park (Torro - I think). We were given a tour to the fancy box and was able to take pictures with a jersey on and holding a bat. It was super fun. Then we stopped at a children's camp and observed their lawn play. There were also crafts for sale that went to help the children. We never one time felt unsafe and were delivered in comfort back to the ship.

Just wait till I tell you about this. As we were walking back to the ship, we saw a few craft booths set up and one of the booths had two fish tanks and a lady had her feet in one. I had read about this before where these fish nibble on the bottom of your feet to remove the dead skin. Its like a pedicure. Not one to turn down a challenge, I said "How much and opened my purse." It was 15.00 and boy did it feel weird. It was almost the highlight of my trip. I know, I guess I am shallow and REALLY EASY TO PLEASE.

So after that experience, we had to be back on the ship at 3:30 for a 4:00 departure. We met our wonderful friends, Sam and Beth for dinner (always good) and then went to the Rich Purpura magic show. DO NOT MISS THIS!! A highlight. I did not talk to anyone that did not enjoy his show. He used humor and it was just great. We also saw the movie, The Jungle Book at the pool. Its a really good movie. Our friends were a little hesitant due to being thought of as a child's movie but they as well as us loved it. There were towels and popcorn provided.

My husband and I then went to the aft pool and it was so pretty and private at night. Beautiful evening.

    Don't miss this port

We arrived in port at 9:00.
