  1. @Canal archive - we were on the Gem and I think it was the second time they got to dock right in Honfluer; quite the experience as we had to back into the harbour. Everyone was out on deck and saluted the Captain when he finished this, not an easy docking!
  2. Agree with Trunkabelle, jackets and ties are only really seen if one goes to the specialty restaurant option. A nice dress shirt and pants will suffice.
  3. The moderate priced hotels were booked months ago. Downtown is the best place to stay and sure hope you’re not travelling until late August or September because finding a hotel will be hard this late in the season.
  4. Sorry but children travelling with nay one parent require a passport, closed loop or not. Plus the letter from non-custodial parent giving permission for children to travel.
  5. You will go through Canadian Immigration upon deplaning and yes, there are kiosks to use but might have for one to be open. Then you will make your way to your cruise ship (presuming you're boarding the same day) where you will go through US Border Security before boarding the ship. If you are arriving the same day your ship departs I hope you have allowed yourself lots of time to make the ship's departure. Its not that hard, don't over think it.
  6. Be very careful about renting an AirBnB in downtown Vancouver, the city has cracked down on those. Make sure you see the license from the property and, if its a condo, the strata documents stating that short term rentals are allowed in the building.
  7. Don't just look at the rental rate, check out the parking rates at the hotel you're staying at - they won't be cheap.
  8. Same applies - makes living in the 21st century pretty hard doesn't it? πŸ˜‰
  9. If you're interested in protecting the environment - don't go on a cruise.
  10. If she has her heart set on tea, here is another option for you but it would involve a taxi both ways. https://www.abkhaziteahouse.com/
  11. Craigdarroch Castle is not a castle, just a big house with turrets and quite frankly not worth spending your time in Victoria seeing. If you want historic grab a cab out to Fisgard Lighthouse and Fort Rodd Hill; or just wander from the cruise ship dock into the Inner Harbour area to view the historic Legislative Buildings and Empress Hotel. https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/lhn-nhs/bc/fortroddhill
  12. Since your husband is a photographer, I suggest you enjoy your evening wandering around the Inner Harbour area. Its a 15 minute walk from where the cruise ship docks and lots to see and look at there; plus many places to grab a bite to eat but NOT Tim Hortons (I too can't believe people would pay money for a tour there). Come back another time when you can spend a day at Butchart's !
  13. A shawl or scarf of some kind that you can use to cover your shoulders in case you tour any churches; plus it can be used against any chill in the air in the evenings.
  14. I live an hour flight away from Vancouver, plus don't have to worry about going through Customs and if I were to be taking a cruise out of there - I would fly in the day before.
