  1. We’ve had an aft suite before (not on X) and had no soot problems at all. However, there was a rather severe vibration and shaking problem. I don’t know if any X ships have this problem at the stern, but ships of several other lines do.
  2. Sounds like most of these items are prohibited on the ship due to fire hazard. When I have considered a cruise and searched for prohibited items on the line’s web site, it has been a bit hard to find — and in fine print. When one books a cruise, the line should send a list of prohibited items shortly thereafter — and not expect the guest to spend an hour searching for this info on the site. Further, prohibited items are not the same from line to line. We just cruised on a line (not X this time) where ordinary extension cords are allowed. So all lines should send a readable list of prohibited items right after booking — or at least with the cruise documents. This might solve problems.
  3. How about finding the flights you want, and asking Regent for a deviation? Sometimes this works out well.
  4. We just got back from a cruise yesterday (not Celebrity) that disembarked in Miami. That will be our last time at that port for us. The cruise terminal was way understaffed, causing the worst congestion at such a facility that we’ve ever seen. The Miami airport is also a mess. It is spread out literally for miles and has no trains, trams, busses, internal carts, or people movers. It is thus unusable by people like us with even minor mobility disabilities. We won’t be back there, either. So I would count Celebrity’s use of other FL ports as a big plus.
  5. Possibly, but on the ship the iPad wouldn’t type accurately and correctly. Now that I have returned home, it works fine. As to the phone problem, we got instructions and followed them When we would dial a number we know well, we would only get a recording stating the number was invalid
  6. We s phone home him numers in-the shiosph0hUSA tokiowij whijevfikiowq
  7. We understand your concerns but-it is Reget program, which allows it to shorten the the business class leg that is required in their advertising by flying guests in basic economy all over the US of course, added connections are inconvenient. And all, offer., a new opportunity to miss a flight..We found United fights business class to and from London. Perfect Flor you August cruise, Ir r\requires a deviation. Which will. Be well worth it.
  8. Just for the record, I just saw a man turned away from dinner at the Compass Rose who was wearing denim jeans. However, I saw men wearing trousers with exactly the same cut as denim jeans — except they were made of a different fabric — not denim. They had no problems gaining entrance and seating. So it appears to be the denim fabric, and not the cut of the trousers that makes them “jeans” and unacceptable in restaurants and lounges after 6:00 PM.
  9. We are on night 5 of a seven nighter on the Splendor. Happily, we haven’t had much of a chair hog problem on the pool deck. Today, we found loungers where we wanted on the shady side. About an hour or so later, I noticed that the lounger next to mine had a cell phone on it the whole time. We moved then to a shadier side, and the cell phone was still there, and probably still is. I don’t steal anything, but I would not “reserve” a lounger by leaving my cell phone on one for hours. I do think the service crew needs to police the place better. And perhaps to ensure that guests don’t leave valuables on the loungers, as well as not “reserving” them by leaving cell phones, purses, or the like. And we agree — if you are not sitting there, it isn’t yours.
  10. I’m on a cruise in the Caribbean right now. This time, it is not X, but I’ve cruised X some. On this cruise — and on the many I’ve been on — there are kids. They aren’t bothering anybody. They are having a good time too. I have never been on a cruise where there was a problem with children. So, I’ve never personally seen any reason to prevent children from enjoying any cruise. And on my last birthday I turned 80.
  11. Sounds like this is a constant state of confusion — as is all too usual. A mandatory tip on a fee is a deal breaker for me.
  12. We are on the Splendor right now. We are in the Caribbean. The Compass Rose was a bit chilly on one evening. I wore slacks and a short sleeve polo shirt. That evening, I also wore a light weight sports jacket I had brought for that purpose, and was fine.
  13. Typo, sorry! I meant “Splendor”, of course.
  14. I’ve been trying to get an answer, but haven’t been able to get a clear one yet. Will keep trying.
  15. This will be the first of what maybe several, posts about this cruise. The onboard service and food have been great. Other things, not so much. Of course,,Wi Fi has been bad, as we expected. But as RSS gold guests, with three hours of ships phone time, we expected it to work. It does not. We have some calls that need to be made. We cannot make them via the WiFi using our cell phones. And the promised three hours time via the ship’s phone has not worked at all.i will discuss this problem with somebody in authority (if I can find such a person) and will report back.
  16. Yes, go and have a good time. Just save your receipts for hotel and transports. When you get back, contact your travel insurer and your CC company. Onboard, few things are better than a Regent cruise
  17. I wonder if travel insurance might cover what a guest pays for hotel and transfers in this case, minus any Regent reimbursement. On one occasion United cancelled a booked flight Denver to Boston, and couldn’t get us on another for days, so we asked to be flown home to Durango, after one nights hotel in Denver. Our AmEx Platinum at least reimbursed us for the hotel.
  18. Would it be possible to take the bus to the station and call a cab for the short distance to the hotel? Shouldn’t cost much, and the cab will go direct from bus station to your hotel, whereas the shuttle bus would likely stop at several hotels.
  19. Right, and that’s why it’s good that all Labadee cruise visits have been suspended.
  20. Does anybody know how much of an increased fare there is going from category F to concierge? The suites are identical, and the only concierge benefit has been taken away.
  21. Yes, and they were being advertised AFTER the removal of the Concierge benefits.
  22. Well, sir, I have been on Regent cruises that missed ports. Always for a good reason, so ‘no problem. And of course false advertising is a misdemeanor and not a felony. Under Federal law. But do you know what it is here in Colorado? It is a misdemeanor but requiring restitution. So I know that I am not going to book a Regent cruise out of Reykjavik any time in the near future, nor out of Barcelona or out of Anchorage. I am happy that you posted the T&Cs in print I could actually read! I don’t think state laws (which apply as Regent has online booking in all states) are going to give Regent all the protection from non-delivery of advertised services that it expects. I hope that it continues to deliver what it says it will. Otherwise, we’ll either seek a better cruise line. If there is none, we’ll just stay home in our SW Rocky Mountain home. We’ll drive around to the many national parks around here. We don’t need to take a cruise if it is misrepresented. Actually, we knew cruises were going to go down hill. That’s why we moved to the mountains and 12 years ago.
  23. Picardad: thanks for telling me who to discuss this matter with. Please provide me with a phone number or an email address, and I will use that. And I hope the hotel and transfer situation is cleared up soon. And I repeat, T&C can relieve a line of contract liability, but cannot relieve a line of criminal liability for false advertising and fraud. To support my evidence of these crimes, I point to the fact that Regent is still advertising hotels and transfers on its web site for these cruises today — a number of weeks after we here learned it was a no go. What would you say. Is this fact that Regent is STILL advertising these cruises with “free hotel and transfers, concierge and above’”? Do you think this is criminal or not. And if not, why not?
  24. Do any hotels in Reykjavik have airport transfers included? I am a bit confused on what monetary compensation Regent offers. At the start of this thread, I understood it to be 300 British Pounds, translating to $380 USD. My research indicates that $380 USD will get a number of hotels there. So, unless I am in error somewhere, the main problem is transfers from airport to hotel and from hotel to ship. So, it seems to me that we aren’t talking about very much money damages from Regent’s breach. BUT, the fact that Regent is, as of today, still advertising “free hotel and transfers” on these cruises is quasi criminal. This is fraud, as Regent knows, or should know, that this isn’t the case. I’m going to be on the Splendor next week. The hotel and transfer situation is fine on this cruise. But unless somebody corrects my calculations, I will contact the GM and confront him with this situation re Reykjavik. In the US, Regent may, or may not, be protected from a contract breach action by the T&Cs (never read the T&C, too fine a print for most Regent guests to read). But whatever the T&Cs say, they cannot protect against an action for fraud in any court where the guest lives in the US. I’ll do nothing about this mess, as I haven’t been damaged by it. Consider this to be free legal advice — maybe worth what you paid for it. And we love Regent cruises. Just don’t want them to go down that “slippery slope” into mass market status, as too many other lines have gone.
