  3. oops lol ty for fixing that for me, ill fix my post. One of my favorite menus is an *Error Nieuw Amsterdam* menu, the error is that when you open it up, the menu is both *upside down and on the wrong side* the ship's name and date and such are upside down inside the back cover and the menu part is upside down on the inside of the front cover. i'll post a photo of the error menu. See note after photo *Arrow is pointing to what appear as lines on the menu, but is actually the indentation of the cover which is an embossed illustration on the cover of the menu, and that's the side the upside down menu is printed on, not the inside of the back cover where it should be. I thought might find an *error menu* interesting to see

  11. The charters and group sailings organisations have been slowly updating their plans, so the information listed here may change over the coming months. The information on the HAL website is sometimes contradictory to the information posted by charter organisations (i.e. some dates which are shown as charters on the organiser's website is still available to book on the HAL website). A couple of things to note is that some Charters/Groups have posted their schedules, however HAL have not posted theirs (eg Nieuw Amsterdam, Caribbean Winter 2021 sailings). Also there is a 3 day gap in Zuiderdam's Spring 2021 schedule, between Sunday May 23rd (end of charter sailing in Lisbon) and Wednesday May 26th (start of new sailing from Civitavecchia). I am missing a lot of Dry Dock information, perhaps @Copper10-8will have some relevant information over the coming months. Please treat this posting as a 'Base Line' and it will be updated and amended as newer information comes to hand. As usual if you come across any information please post it to the thread for inclusion in the next update. (Nothing is in 'Red' this time as I have treated it as all 'New Information'!) 12. @Flatbush Flyer, you mention "disposable income" in connection with small ships, implying that the only people with disposable income to travel now are those who can afford the much higher fares on lines such as Regent, Oceania, Silversea, etc. I'm middle income and haven't missed one day of pay due to Covid-19. There are lots of us out here, the only difference being we work at home now instead of in an office. I don't sail "mega" ships. Last cruises were on the Carnival Miracle and HAL's Nieuw Amsterdam. When we come of out of this Covid thing, there's going to be a demand for air travel, hotel stays, cruises, etc. Some companies may no longer exist or will have been bought out by others, but who fills the mid to mega sized cruise ships are the middle class.

  14. We have been on the Nieuw Amsterdam a couple of times for Alaska cruises; loved the whole experience. Hope you all get to go.
  15. A sad remembrance today. It is the 23rd anniversary of the passing of Princess Diana. I was sailing from Vancouver on the old Nieuw Amsterdam, when the news broke. It was my 1st time to Alaska. The BBC reported the other day a statue will be unveiled in Kensington Garden next July 1st on the anniversary of her 60th birthday.
  16. We have a reservation on Nieuw Amsterdam for the May 23, 2021 cruise out of Vancouver. We are keeping our fingers crossed. I was able to get a signature suite with a really nice balcony. Great thing for an Alaskan cruise. First they need to open the boarder between Canada and the US so we can fly into Vancouver to get on the ship. There are three of us ladies going on this trip. It should be a good time as long as we get to go.
  17. Rich.. Your Daily is my "Go to" read every morning, much appreciated. I especially like to follow the position of all the HAL ships each day, looking for the signal that they are actually moving toward the embarkation port for their next cruise. As soon as I see a ship two days out from the date and port, I'll start booking like crazy. I'm a single cruiser, and fully retired, so it is not a big deal if I book too late to make a specific cruise, as I can just go on the next available one, pretty much anytime. The exception to that would be for a unique itinerary such as the Pacific Battles Cruise on Maasdam last year. I would have hated to have missed that one. I'd also hate to miss the Africa Circumnavigation on Zaandam in October 2021. Other than those an a few others, most sailings can be duplicated with a later sailing if I miss out because of a sold out condition, and so the actual date doesn't much matter to me. With that in mind, this is what I am watching... First let me say that my posts are prone to errors.. I am old and don't proof read very well, and the data in the rest of my post may have errors, and may already be obsolete by the time I post it. The purpose of my post is just to show what I am watching. Again, as soon as I see a ship two days out from the port, that will be my signal to book cruises for the coming year. Another good signal would be when I hear that crews have returned to a specific ship. Is it likely that the crews will be flown to the embarkation port, or will the ships all sail to the crew's home countries to pick them up on the way to their next embarkation post? Here is the list from your opening post today, with what I think is the first sailing for the ships, again, most likely with errors.. I am not focused on accuracy with my additions, just an overall picture. It seems like at this point, a lot depends on Ft. Lauderdale opening up. I live fairly close to Ft. Lauderdale, and would like to be one of the first passengers on the first HAL ship out, but again, if I miss the first one, then next one out will be fine with me. It would be great that if anyone hears any news on crew movements, that they would add it too. 19. When the Nieuw Amsterdam was dedicated and in her early voyages, there was a group of 4 young tenors (I think) called Cantare that performed. They were excellent and are memorable for their voices, the staging, etc. (You Tube videos are available still, I think.) I rank their performances as the best that I have ever seen aboard a cruise ship. I have spoken with Cruise Directors since that worked with them in lesser capacities and they are in agreement.
  20. We had a Vista Suite on the K and it felt cramped. We didn't have any cabin dining as it was literally eat on the bed or put your plate on the tiny table. It would have reminded me of dining from a tv tray. I much prefer our experience on the Nieuw Amsterdam where you can easily move the coffee table to the balcony and adjust it upward and enjoy your room service. I'm a detailed person so I pay attention to things like this.

  25. The "Four Seasons" art would not "fit" on the current Nieuw Amsterdam because of her New York-themed decor. If there is an interest at HAL to continue the art connections of their new ships with those of the past, placing the "Four Seasons" on Rotterdam VII. As I have stated, that mural from Rotterdam V's forward bulkhead of the Ritz Carlton and duplicated on the forward bulkhead of the MDR's Upper Deck Restaurant on Rotterdam VI ought not to be overlooked. For me, the "Four Seasons" sculpture is wonderful to view. But, for me, that mural is more significant because I actually sailed on the ship that had that lovely piece of art. As a visitor in 1971 to the Nieuw Amsterdam of 1938, I saw the sculpture. It just doesn't mean the same to me as the Rotterdam V's mural.
