  1. Nieuw Statendam isn't there because no one has been able to get it yet. I have friends that just left NSDM and asked for it and were given several excuses. When it is available it will be added.
  2. Except for Nieuw Statendam, which isn't there for some reason, and its layout is completely different from Koningsdam.

  4. My partner Charles and I look forward to another HAL TA crossing. Took the Koningsdam last year and had a wonderful cruise. Great food and service all around. Love the Tamarind Specialty Dining restaurant. This year spending 3 days in Rome pre-embarkation.
  5. If that is the Nieuw Statendam we might run into each other. You will know where to find me.
  6. Yes, there is an email relating to staggered boarding times for Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam. The general consensus is that it can be safely ignored. However, the email posted by OP mentions USCG drill for ALL crew and the date coincides with the ship's return from Europe, so I would be inclined to follow the instructions on this email, or be prepared for a possible long wait.
  7. Nieuw Statendam is arriving from Civitavecchia that day, I believe. That probably explains the Coast Guard drill -- first US port in a while.
  8. I am not a frequent HAL cruiser. Are the internet prices better once you are on board rather than on the HAL website in advance? I will be doing a 7 day Caribbean cruise from FLL.

  10. I will be sailing on the Nieuw Statendam in December flying out of LAX to FLL and wanted to do it up right so to speak. I am wondering if anyone here has ever used the Private Suites at LAX. Its a huge splurge and I have been given a large discount. Going into LAX is always a hassle and I try avoiding it at all costs and this seems like a great way to do that. https://theprivatesuite.com/the-experience/ Thanks in advance.
  11. Yes, that's the same menu we had last April on Oosterdam and last Christmas on Nieuw Statendam. I can recall the previous menu with fried chicken, mashed potatoes and spinach. OMG, was it lusciously delicious. I loved it and was so disappointed when it was removed. On the last cruise, my friends and I were in a hurry, so we all ordered the steak sandwich. Unfortunately, it had MSG in it, and I'm allergic, so I spent the next two hours in the bathroom. So much for the activities we'd planned for that afternoon before the Muster. I won't ever order it again. Yes, the MDR confirmed my allergies when we checked in with the maître d', and I asked about the MSG before ordering. Not a great way to start a cruise, but maître d' and others expressed apologies, and the staff took good care of me for the rest of the cruise. How long has this menu been in effect? At what point will they change it? We're on NS again this Christmas and wonder if we'll see a different menu or not.
  12. Hi, how is sailing on HAL solo? Male 64 yrs. Going on Nieuw Statendam.
  13. The Nieuw Statendam is such a beautiful, new cruise ship, and I took a ton of photos when I was on board. If you're planning to sail on this ship in the future and want a sneak peak, I've got a photo tour featuring my verandah cabin and all the public spaces on the ship! If you're missing the ship or counting down the days until your next cruise (aren't we all!), maybe this will help fuel your wanderlust for cruising and bring back some great memories! You can see my entire cruise ship photo tour here >> https://justinpluslauren.com/nieuw-statendam-cruise-ship-photo-tour/ Here are a few photos from the Nieuw Statendam! And feel free to ask me any questions!

  15. 75 days till we head to FLL, then on the 5th we board the Nieuw Statendam for a 14 day Tropical Caribbean itinerary. You? Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂
  16. We like 'em all!! In the winter, we cruise for 3-4 weeks to get away from the cold. For those cruises, we prefer the larger ships. We loved our cruises on the Oasis class ships. We pick & choose what activities/entertainment we attend, spend a lot of time on our balconies, don't really care about the ports, as long as the weather is HOT HOT HOT. Our main consideration for this type of cruise is $$$. Our next cruise on a big ship is on the Nieuw Statendam (big for HAL, that is, not necessarily Royal or Princess or Carnival!). We're curious to see how HAL handles a big ship, and hopefully there will be a younger demographic. For the Caribbean, we like the overall vibe that a good mix of ages provides. When we cruise to explore, as we usually do once or twice a year, we prefer the smaller ships. As mentioned several times, they can get into some very interesting & wonderful ports around the world that the larger ships simply cannot. Itinerary is our most important consideration for these cruises, then size, then $$$. Next fall we'll be on Serenade of the Seas in Australia & New Zealand.
  17. My family will be going on a 14 day cruise back to back on the Nieuw Statendam. What is the procedure of the back to back cruise? Will my family be required to get off the ship and wait in the cruise terminal as the initial embarkation?? Your feedback is much appreciated. Leeson112
  18. You're sailing on the newest ship in the HAL fleet, Nieuw Statendam, a real beauty. No, the ship will NOT shut down at 10:30 P.M., as Music Walk musicians are still performing. Since Rolling Stones Rock Room and Billboard Onboard are across from each other, these musicians play a set in one lounge, and the minute that show is over (45 minute sets) the other musicians across the deck begin their show. BB King's Blues Club plays in the section behind these two venues. Their shows have sets that stagger these other two shows. Lincoln Center Stage plays before and during the dinner hours. On Nieuw Statendam, these very talented classical musicians rarely played after 8 P.M. A DJ takes over in the Queen's Lounge (Lincoln Center Stage and BB King's venue) after BB King's last set. My son, who is 33 and single, rarely came back to our cabin until 1-1:30 a.m., so if you want nightlife, you can find it aboard this ship. My only complaint with NS is its narrow Promenade Deck. Please don't miss New York Deli (Reuben sandwich with extra meat) or Dutch Café, which has free food selections. The quiche is marvelous. Although Gelato sells ice cream, you can get free ice cream at the Lido Marketplace with limited flavors. Gelato has exotic flavors for a reasonable price and generous servings. Dive In serves marvelous burgers and hotdogs. Only time during the year I'll eat a hotdog is aboard ship. Yum! At night, the huge screen by the Lido main pool shows recently released DVD movies which are also available on your TV the next day. Your TV will also have an inventory of movies, all free. NY Deli serves popcorn, pizza, soft pretzels, and chicken wings during the movies. All free. We first sailed on NS last Christmas and will sail her again this Christmas/New Year's. Obviously, we loved the experience. I think you will too. Come back and let us know about your experience and impressions. Have a fabulous cruise.
  19. I'm curious about the Microsoft courses being offered on the Nieuw Statendam. Is it necessary, advisable, or even possible to book the classes in advance? Is there a schedule for the specific classes? Any feedback re other cruisers' experience with this would be much appreciated.
  20. Has anyone stayed in this cabin? Looks like a larger obstructive balcony with some ocean view.
  21. Any suggestions? Will be on a 7 night cruise. It's possible our 1 year old will be with us although I may be able to get babysitting from other family members on one or two nights when we try specialty dining. I've never sailed with HAL before. I watched some videos online and think I want to try the Asian place (Tamarind) and Pinnacle Grill. Not sure about the Italian place as I see it gets mixed reviews. Will we get dirty looks if we bring our kid with us? Any other complimentary food items specific to HAL that I should make sure I try/don't miss out on? The burgers in the videos look really good lol. Since we will have our 1 year old with us we may have to use the buffet a few nights -- do they serve some of the same dishes as the Main Dining Room? Can we get MDR as room service instead if we need to stay in? On Princess I've always been able to get them to deliver MDR food to my stateroom by calling Room Service and just asking (unadvertised benefit YMMV). Not sure how HAL handles it.
  22. We're looking to book Nieuw Statendam for a Caribbean cruise in March 2020. The best inside cabin we can get is an aft cabin on the 4th (Bethoven) deck (4192). Is there much vibration or engine noise in this area? The cabin is above the dining room, but away from the galley. Have always booked mid-ship so no experience with aft cabins. Any comments would be appreciated.
  23. Haven’t been in HAL in many years and I’m looking to try again and would appreciate any feedback. Our one and only HAL cruise was 9 years ago on the Maasdam. 14 days with the most amazing Caribbean itinerary. But we were bored on the ship. Best entertainment was the crew show. We really enjoyed that. Rest of the entertainment was a xylophone player and a violinist. Not our cup of tea. We've mostly sailed Princess, but it seems that with the new ships, the ship is the destination, Not the itinerary. Don’t get me wrong, the ship is very important, as is the itinerary. Quite frankly we’re getting bored with Princess’ same Caribbean ports and we’re looking for a change. Last few cruises we didn’t bother to get off the ship. Now to my question, 2 ships, same itinerary. If you had to choose between the Nieuw Amsterdam and the Nieuw Statendam, which would you choose and why? We are in out early 70’s and fairly active. We only want to compare the ships, not the ports as we’ve been to them before, just not on the same cruise. The ports offered are the relaxing beach ports. Just what we need right now. Thanks in advance.
  24. I will be sailing the Caribbean in November on the holland america nieuw statendam. I never been on holland this will be my first time. Ok so what kind of drinks are included for free on this ship I heard lots of different things we don't drink alchohol so I don't care about those drinks. Main dining food on other cruise lines main dining food is all you can eat so if you want extra you always get it no extra cost does Holland do the same thing. Do things really close before midnight. We are a group of young adults will we be the only young ones How does Holland compare to royal Caribbean
  25. I have a "Beverage Credit" promo on my upcoming cruise on the Nieuw Statendam. I do not have many cruises on HAL and not up to speed on their drinks. Can someone give me an idea what is included in a "Beverage Credit". Are their any adult beverages that HAL is especially known for? I remember seeing something about a cider type drink.
