  1. Cycles upside

A few years ago we took the Asian cruise on the Millennium. Food was really bad to the point I couldn’t eat it on the last night and people we were traveling with got sick on the chicken on the last night. Since the Constellation will be doing that cruise do you think the food will be better or is it more that’s the food available to the ships?
  2. Food is poor and service is worse because of high turnover of personnel.
  3. Hi: Husband and I are planning on a cruise July 14 or 28, 2019 Pacific Northwest on the Columbia and Snake Rivers; Clarkston to Vancouver. Looking at Cabin C Deluxe Veranda Stateroom. Would appreciate all feedback positive and negative regarding the cruise; excursions; premium excursions (worth the extra money?). Called AAA and they claim that they can provide more perks than going direct with AQSC as well as giving better service for pre-cruise advise. Anyone else go this route? I read Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose. Excellent history of the entire Lewis and Clark expedition. Looking forward to actually being there. Looking forward to all feedback and chatting with anyone who has/is going on this cruise. Joanne

    American Express OBC

On one travel agent site I saw that if you booked through your American Express card you were entitled to additional OBC. I recall doing this several years ago for a Norwegian cruise and the obc was substantial and was in addition to the cruise line obc and travel agency obc. Just wondering if this American Express deal is limited only to that particular travel agency, or if it applies to any that I would book with. I know I could call my TA and ask. However, I'm not ready to book just yet, and I know she'll start with the "ready to book yet" emails if I initiate an inquiry.
  5. Where is the port for Constellation in Venice? Going on cruise Oct 10 2019. How do you get over to the port if staying in Venice 2 nights before cruise? Thanks.

    American Express

A new offer was added to my American Express account last night. Spend $750 or more at The World's Leading Cruise Lines (Carnival, Princess, HAL, Seabourn, Cunard) and get a $150 credit. Expires 10/15. There are some exclusions and details. I plan to call Carnival this morning and pay my balance. We'll see if it works! B
  7. Well, it's day four of our 14-day Arabian Sea & India cruise and I'm going to try to post some information on the cruise as we sail along. I had great hopes Celebrity's Xcelerate internet would be fast enough to post pictures, but what I've found so far is that it is still very slow! The picture below is around 500KB and it took several minutes to upload to Photobucket. It's mid-afternoon here, so there may be a high number of people using the internet. Therefore, I'll likely try to post pictures during the early morning hours. We've had a great trip so far and I'll be playing catch-up over the couple of days trying to cover the highlights. Cheers, Bill This picture was taken onboard the Constellation at about 2pm Dec 22/16 - our first sea day.
  8. I am allergic to sea food and the WEB seems to concentrate on shrimp, lobster, etc. How can I get sample menus for the meals?
  9. Hi, My husband and I (mid 60s) are experienced ocean cruisers but have booked our first river cruise for next spring on the Constitution. I am hoping that those of you with more experience can answer some of the questions we have. Some may be very basic but I am having difficulty in finding answers. First we are booked on the Revolution cruise out of Baltimore. The website lists excursions for each stop but not with details such as cost and time. When and / or how do I get more information on the excursions so that I can start to plan for each port? Second, I have read that the average age is usually an older crowd, does that mean similar to us or even older? Patience is not my husbands greatest characteristic so I want to prepare him for a slow pace. and lastly, with much fewer passengers than on our previous cruises do you rate the 1:1 service that much better than the ocean cruise lines? If anyone has any pictures of the Constitution I would also love to see her details. Thanks Donna

    Constellation vs Millennium

A few years ago we did the Asian cruise on the Millennium. Food was horrible. I noticed the Constellation will be taking it’s place. Do you think the food will be better or is it just that that’s the food available to the ships?
  11. Does anyone know if the Aqua class veranda dividers can be removed or opened on the Constellation? We have adjacent cabins with our friends and it would be nice to be able to share an expanded balcony area.
  12. Experience of Non North-Americans booking HAL through North-American TA I am looking for information if there are cruise guests from outside North-America, that have successfully booked through a North-American TA and making use of the far lower prices and successfully sailed a HAL cruise or even cruises, although not in possession of a North-American passport and or home address. I have tried to do a lot of different searches through the internet and CC specifically, but have not stumbled upon genuine experiences of European/UK/AUS/NZ customers, booking successfully trough a North-American TA on HAL. I have seen general comments about several cruise company’s but have not seen any regarding HAL in particular, or missed it in my searches. Some cruise companies specifically seem to prevent Non North-Americans booking their cruise through a North-American TA or even deny boarding as I have read somewhere, or even have to pay the difference before boarding (do not know that statement to be genuine). Just hoping to get some experiences from fellow cruisers from outside North-America. Thanks in advance.
  13. I have $550 onboard credit from different sources for a 14 day cruise. And just got of the phone with HAL to verify that all amounts are showing. :-) The HAL customer service rep went over the rules, she said that we would not be able to apply the OBC towards the gratuities...but confided that she knew some were able to but on others that usage was denied. Forgive if this topic has been beaten to death, I couldn't find anything newer than 2013 on it. What have people been experiencing lately using OBC towards gratuities? Thanks!
  14. I am considering getting the Amex Platinum for the travel benefits including the lounge access and all. I noted that there is an opportunity for credit to your ship board account when paying with the AMEX. For those that have the card does this apply if booking through a PCC or do you have to book through American Express Travel? I would appreciate any other comments or tips. With the high annual fee I want to make sure it is worth it and that if I take the plunge we get all the benefits! Thanks in advance
  15. I am wondering if December is a good time to a South American cruise? What kind of itinerary is good and what cruise line? We have cruised many times but I don't know anything about this part of the world and am looking for a Dec. Destination. Any guidance about must see ports, best cruise lines for this, weather in Dec is appreciated! Sent from my SM-G960W using Forums mobile app

    Constellation Hesitations

We are looking at a Mediterranean cruise in the summer of 2019 and LOVE the itinerary for the Constellation.....but are concerned for the ship itself based on reviews and one cruise we did on it about 10 years ago. We LOVE the solstice class ships and have been on all of them. We did not like Constellation when we were on it....but it has been refurbed since then so wondering how updated it is now?? Another option is the Edge which we know we'd love....but itinerary is not as good and it's way more expensive. Any advice is appreciated
  18. Anyone know the cabins on deck 3 with the bigger Windows ? Thanks
  19. This will be our first river cruise for my wife and I.We have been on a number of ocean cruises. We found it fun to chat with people prior to the cruise and then meet them on the boat/ So here goes. We are from Missouri and plan to fly out to Portland on the day before and maybe rent a car and drive up to Mt St. Helen and see the volanco:):):)

    American Regatta excursion

Hi - has anyone taken this sailing excursion? I've never sailed before and it sounds exciting but I would like to hear about other people's experiences.
  21. The suites look nice, but most are in the aft of the ship. Is there a lot of shaking/movement in the suites? I’m more sensitive than my husband and he wants to book a suite. We went on Silhouette in Aqua class last time and we were midship and I was fine, but I do remember feeling the movement more in the rstaurants in the aft of the ship. We’re planning on the European cruise in fall 2019.
  22. We are booked on this cruise and looking forward to the wonderful ports. Just curious/interested/concerned as this cruise is not showing on the Celebrity or any TA website any longer. Could it be completely sold out this far in advance? When it was still showing, the prices had increased dramatically? Any guesses!
  23. Does anyone have details or pictures of the partial obstruction on the veranda of cabin 9042 on the Constellation? From the few Cruise Critic pictures I have seen there seems to be platform or extension that juts out from the veranda. Has anyone stayed in this cabin who can clarify what this is and how much it might obstruct the view or use of the veranda? Thanks https://www.cruisecritic.com/photos/ships/celebrity-constellation-272/member-4/93911/
  24. I don’t write many reviews, but we see so little about American river cruising that I thought this on needed a review. Mrs Banjo and I were on the American Queen October 15 from Memphis to New Orleans. Here is the great, the good and the needs improvement. the ship was great, it was clean and in good repair. The captain and crew were pleasant and well trained. We really enjoyed the engine room that was available to tour at any time, it was very interesting. We also enjoyed the captain, who had a great sense of humor and is a really good guitar player! The service staff was always pleasant and helpful and kept our cabin neat and clean. we found the food to be generally very good, but we are not really fussy eaters so we are not hard to please. Food is also very subjective, i’ll Leave it that the food good and plentiful. Wines served at dinner were always good, not fabulous, but good. The wait staff was pleasant, but could have used a bit more training, IMHO. They didn’t seem to know when to replace silverware or what was needed, (always had to ask for a steak knife, etc). The daily HoHo bus was ok, it provided a brief overview and some basic transport, we used it whenever we did not buy a premium tour and were glad it was there. The premium tours were generally very good with the exception of the pre-cruise tour that we thought was managed rather poorly. They had 3 busses of incoming people, (150+/-) all arrive at Graceland , expecting to see the mansion at the same time. Can you say lines and confusion.... did I say I don’t like lines. This particular tour could have been managed much better with very little effort. The pre cruise hotel, well that was a three ring circus. The Sheridan is a convention hotel, with a convention checking out while the cruise people were trying to check in. Here’s how it went; stand in line for 30 minutes, get to the front desk, check in, “sorry sir, your room is not ready, we’ll text you when it is ready, NEXT”. so we go leave our luggage in a ballroom full of other luggage. Ok, so let’s check in with American Queen..... another long line, we leave, go to grab a late lunch could not get service in the hotel restaurant or bar, go back to check in hours later, line is now longer, stand in line for another hour to check in, we get a text that our room is ready, back to the lobby, stand in line for another 15 minutes to get room keys. I think you get the picture, Overall, we did enjoy the cruise, but it did get off to a bad start that I think was not necessary. Hopefully they can make some improvements. Once on the boat it was a real treat.
  25. Anyone heard anything else on this topic? https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2018/10/articles/collisions/torrential-winds-celebrity-constellation-breaks-moorings-strikes-costa-magica/ I read somewhere it was chaotic as the passengers were evacuated from the ship.
