  1. Food is poor and service is worse because of high turnover of personnel.
  2. I am looking into the Asian cruises for future options that leave out of Japan and China. Both trips are on either the Majestic or the Sapphire, and I know that the latter has, what I am guessing is, Chinese writing on lots of the signs through the ship. So I guess they are expecting lots of locals to board these cruises. I am just wondering if there is a big number of Americans on the ship or even if it is still catered to a more American/English-speaking audience.

    Qsine on Constellation

We are on Connie this March and was going to book dinner online at Qsine but it is no longer an option. Has it been closed down? I hope not as we loved it on Millenium last year.
  4. I booked a cruise for this June that disembarks in Civitavecchia specifically so we can visit the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery. We will be staying at a hotel by the airport, and it looks like we can take the train from FCO down to Nettuno and walk the remainder. Has anyone done this? Is it actually doable? We have been in Italy before, but have never used the trains, so I am not familiar with how this mode of transportation works. Do I need to book these tickets in advance? Any idea of approximate cost? We are also considering renting a car if taking the train will be too complicated. I'd appreciate any advice. Thank you!

    American Airlines to Alaska

I'm wondering if I can use the free 40,000 miles from getting this credit card for a flight from Anchorage to Phoenix? The application says something about the 48 contiguous states. I don't want to get it if I can't use it for my Alaska trip. Thanks in advance! Cha-CHING!
  6. My DW and I have been on numerous cruises to Mexico, Pacific Coastal, and Caribbean. We are broadening our horizons in November 2019 with a Constellation cruise from Venice to Rome, with stops all along the Dalmation Coast. We are well versed in what is allowed/not allowed in the Main Dining Room, etc. For our recent Celebrity cruises, I have a nice assortment of button down shirts (short sleeves - Tommy Bahama, etc. - for most nights, and more dressy long-sleeve for chic nights). My question is...what is the "norm" for a Mediterranean cruise on Celebrity? Will be leaving the more Tommy Bahama style at home for this one. Do more people bring jackets/ties on these cruises? I am hoping to get along with nice dressy long-sleeve button down shirts as I would prefer to not bring a suit/sport coat in our luggage. Not opposed to that, just thinking about luggage volume. As always...thanks in advance for any advice, recommendations.
  7. Can anybody tell me which restaurants are on Constellation just now. I get conflicting reports depending where I look!
  8. Cycles upside

A few years ago we took the Asian cruise on the Millennium. Food was really bad to the point I couldn’t eat it on the last night and people we were traveling with got sick on the chicken on the last night. Since the Constellation will be doing that cruise do you think the food will be better or is it more that’s the food available to the ships?
  9. Does anyone know when American Cruise Line’s American Song debuts? Or has it already? I am booked for 2019 but can’t seem to find information on this ship. I looked at the website, but can’t find any date. I want to read some reviews on this ship. It looks incredible. Thanks for your help.
  10. Just got back from the Sapphire; our third and final cruise of the year. Our prior two were aboard the Coral; Panama Canal and West Coast Wine Country. I found the bacon on this ship acceptable. I am trying to identify the origin of the "American Bacon" in the Horizon. This was by far the worst bacon I have ever eaten in my life and in my 63 years, I have had more than my share. The look, texture and flavor were absolutely hideous. Could it be produced in South America? A different cut? Or is it just me? Thoughts?

    Constellation Hesitations

We are looking at a Mediterranean cruise in the summer of 2019 and LOVE the itinerary for the Constellation.....but are concerned for the ship itself based on reviews and one cruise we did on it about 10 years ago. We LOVE the solstice class ships and have been on all of them. We did not like Constellation when we were on it....but it has been refurbed since then so wondering how updated it is now?? Another option is the Edge which we know we'd love....but itinerary is not as good and it's way more expensive. Any advice is appreciated
  12. The Constellation received seven new Oceanview cabins (3115 - 3127) on deck 3 recently. These cabins seem to be just next to the new Qsine. Does anybody know where the entrance to Qsine is? According to the deckplan it should be all the way to the aft just next to the elevators and stairs. Is that really the case? Or can you also enter the restaurant from the other side? This would mean that all guest of Qsine must pass the mentioned new cabins. This would certainly keep me away from booking these cabins. Also, I can not find any additional information about these cabins? What is the layout? Are they noisy? Any recommendations from previous cruisers? Frank
  13. We just returned from a 22 day cruise and 9 nights pre and post cruise visit to South America . The cruise was on the HAL Zaandam from San Antonio , Chile to Buenos Aires Argentina . We took over 10,000 photos on this trip so it will take a while to cull , download , edit and upload to Photo Bucket before writing , so please be patient . It will be mostly in chronological order and will use some photos from our previous cruises to South America . So , bags packed and ready to go ? Boarding passes ? OK , lets go .
  14. I understand that this may be a can of worms, as much of this topic is very subjective. I know for every good review you can find two bad reviews, and vice versa -- but from Forum browsing and googling, it does appear that MSC gets weighted a little to the less favorable side, but again there are MANY proponents on here. Im a semi experienced cruiser, Caribbean primarily, but across Celebrity, Norwegian, Royal and Carnival. Im not blown away with the food or the venues - they all have their pros and cons, but Im simple, I like my interior cabin cave, I do like the staff being friendly, I like some deck antics by the entertainment staff but I dont need 5 Star treatment and Top Tier food. Im all about getting away and waking up in a new port, exploring and coming back to grab a less than impressive, but very satisfying burger. With all that said, most of the negative reviews of MSC tend to lean towards not reaching that pinnacle class of experience. For a casual cruiser, as described, that is interested in trying a Mediterranean MSC Cruise, do you think it would live up to the expectations that I typically have for cruise lines? Or is it really that much different? Would love your feedback

    American Regatta excursion

Hi - has anyone taken this sailing excursion? I've never sailed before and it sounds exciting but I would like to hear about other people's experiences.
  16. I'm considering a long-ish cruise on Constellation in November 2020. Can anyone give some tips on inside cabins -- any locations or layouts that are more desirable on this ship? I do not suffer from seasickness at all but prefer to be centrally located just for convenience. I often read that cabins toward the back suffer from more vibration -- having experienced that in a Princess aft cabin I'd rather avoid it. So -- any suggestions for me? (Also: as a solo, the price difference between an inside cabin versus an oceanview is much greater than any of the current perks available would compensate for....)
  17. Looking for any reviews on Celebrity Constellation cabin 8002. We've booked this cabin for a summer 2019 French Riviera cruise. It is an ocean view, but larger than most and since there are 3 of us we chose this one for the little bit of extra space. Wondering if this cabin was retrofitted in the last dry dock. We were on the Connie about 8 years ago and Cabins were dated and in poor repair. Anyone ever stayed in 8002? Thanks in advance.
  18. I want to take my parents on a cruise this year, and looking at the Celebrity Constellation Oct 2019 cruise from Rome ( Italy and Dalmation Coast). Knowing the overwhelming choices out there of cruises AND the level of knowledge on this board, can you please let me know your thoughts on what I am planning? - Parents can walk, but not long distances. We get wheelchairs for them when in airports since they are just not able to walk or climb more than a handful of stairs. I am looking at Royal Suite and/or Celebrity Suites only. This will ensure they will get some specialized attention, plus butler service will help. I will be with them, but also think getting one of the higher category of suites will enable a smoother experience. Would you agree? - Excursions - Will probably have to do private excursions - but, do you all know whether there will be wheelchairs that will help wheel them off the ship to the transport and back? Are there long waits to get wheelchairs like they have in airports? - Would you recommend any other ideas/tips or another sailing that might be more friendly for them or will this do? We are limited to the early October date - and open to any ship, but it has to be a big enough space where the three of us are not on top of each other, and want to ensure we have a great experience ( will be my parents last cruise probably 😞 ) Thank you again.
  19. We were in Pago Pago, American Samoa last month and, like numerous cruise ship passengers, did not book tours with the ship. We simply got off the ship to look around. There were some vendors set up nearby and one of them was a tour company called Best Tours - American Samoa. There were a lot of people wanting their 3-hour tour ($40 USD) and we were one of the lucky ones to get seats. They took us to parts of the National Park and to some small villages. The memorable thing about the villages was seeing school children walking home. Without exception, every single one of them wanted to engage us in some way, be it conversation or just exchanging smiles and waves. I have never seen such a happy, friendly and welcoming bunch of children anywhere. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and, had we known about this tour company in advance, would have made reservations by email. 20. Hi everyone, I'm sure some of you are sick of my cabin drama for our Suez Canal cruise, so sorry in advance :) We've already had a nice price drop, & while taking advantage of it I switched from our aft C1 on deck 8 to cabin 6143, (This in on the Constellation, I haven't done M class since 2003) I know that a lot of people will same I'm crazy for giving up the Aft, but honestly we prefer more privacy, & my husband has never been that fond of the deeper hump balconies on S class, due the bit of "tunnel" effect. Anyhow, looking at the deck plans, it seems that 6143 might be a nice quiet location & I'm hoping we get a really great cabin attendant as we'll be in the suite area... don't know if that makes any difference or not. I"m also thinking we will get a breeze on the balcony of 6143, which is really, really important as I've read that flies can be a problem when cruising the canal. thanks in advance.
  21. Hi: Husband and I are planning on a cruise July 14 or 28, 2019 Pacific Northwest on the Columbia and Snake Rivers; Clarkston to Vancouver. Looking at Cabin C Deluxe Veranda Stateroom. Would appreciate all feedback positive and negative regarding the cruise; excursions; premium excursions (worth the extra money?). Called AAA and they claim that they can provide more perks than going direct with AQSC as well as giving better service for pre-cruise advise. Anyone else go this route? I read Undaunted Courage by Stephen Ambrose. Excellent history of the entire Lewis and Clark expedition. Looking forward to actually being there. Looking forward to all feedback and chatting with anyone who has/is going on this cruise. Joanne
  22. I am usually able to get lots of info off the boards about ports but not so much for South America. We are looking at a cruise on Costa Fascinosa at the end of February. These are the ports and times: Day 1 Buenos Aires -leaving 16h00 Day 2 Montevideo 08h00-16h00 Day 3 and 4 cruising Day 5 Angrados Reis 08h00-18h00 Day 6 Buzios 08h00-20h00 Day 7 Cabo Frio 07h00-18h00 Day 8 Rio 08h00-20h00 Day 9 Ubatuba 08h00-20h00 Day 10 and 11 Ilhabela 08h00-17h00 Day 12 and 13 cruising Day 14 Punta del este 07h00-18h00 Day15 Buenos Aires arriving 08h00 We don't often do excursions with the ship people because they are just too crowded and you often end up on a coach most of the time. We like site seeing rather than sitting on a beach. We also like good food and I assume these countries serve a good steak. Any info would be appreciated. Alicat

    Pan American Pier East

We were just notified that our cruise out of San Juan will not be from the Pan American Pier East rather than the one close to Old San Juan. Is there a shutlle that runs from the pier? if so How often? How about a ferry? or water taxi. Thanks for your help
  24. Will I be able to use my cell phone to call mainland USA without an international phone plan?
  25. Hi, I booked EZ Air for the first time. I recently paid for the tickets so that we could use our status on American Airlines to get better seats. The problem is if I go to the AA website and look at our names for this flight they are firstmiddle Mrs as my first name (husband is same pattern). So our names are "firstmiddle Mrs middle last". I have called our travel agent and he conferenced me in with Princess. On the Princess side our names are correct on the cruise and on the air side. I called American and they have seen this before supposedly the only hitch is we can't check in online, must check in with a human. Now my question :-), Has anyone else been through this? My biggest fear is getting to the airport and being denied boarding which means we miss everything. TIA
