  1. Yes Sorry. someone mentioned Alaska and I was thinking Amsterdam and the old Alaska trips. We did a HAL Montreal - Boston years ago and was great (on Masdaam). Drove up through NE into Canada, sailed to Boston and drove home. Our own land tour with a cruise in between. Enjoy. The Neptune concierge will spoil you.
  2. Those of us on the World Cruise or previous World Cruises we’re given the opportunity to vote on 4 possible (stress possible) itineraries for the 2022 WC. All of them began on Jan . 4, 2022. The itinerary we preferred is one that not only included ports in Africa but went north and included Amsterdam and Rotterdam with the timing seeming to coincide with the tulips! If you look at Pete’s website (theinsidecabin.com) I think his link to the 4 possible itineraries is there. They also asked us to list places, ports, countries, etc. we wanted to visit, so all of those bits will be included in what they finally come up with.

  4. Well you can still do that leaving in January by putting that at the end of the cruise. The 2019 WC went to Amsterdam and easily could have included the Baltic.
  5. I was notified last night that it was time to check in for our flight to Amsterdam today. The flight was cancelled along with our cruises (June 6 and June 20) back on March 17. (by us, not HAL). Delta doesn't even offer that flight anymore, so it's a ghost flight! No cruise or flight is listed on Holland America and no flight is listed on my Delta Sky Miles account. Crazy! As for a refund - nothing yet on my credit card. No emails from HAL about a small FCC we're owed or anything else for that matter. Today is 79 days and we're trying to be patient, but this is just plain stupid. One of us wants to wait a little longer to file a cc dispute and the other wants to move on with it. Because of this we may decide to cancel our two 2021 Grand Voyages. Are you listening Holland America?

  7. Elevators are not exposed to the cabins - you walk around the corner to where they are in their own little hallway and no, they're not noisy. We stayed in 7027 (opposite 7026) and couldn't hear them at all and are booked in the same location on Volendam (a sister ship) for 45 days in 2021. No reason to move back to 7030 unless you can't get 7026 or 7028. We met people on our 14 night cruise in Alaska two years ago on Amsterdam who were in 7016 and said never again (because of the noise from above). Post back and let me know what you wind up booking! Good luck!
  8. A great video to view. I appreciate it being posted. Given what these people have endured--not just on the Amsterdam, but on vessels of many cruise companies--why would they desire to return for service? I wonder if the next major challenge for cruise lines--if and when they will be able to return to service-- will be the recruitment and training of new crew members. Even if the previous crew members choose to return, the amount of time to re-train them before their ship enters revenue service service again will not be insignificant, I don't think.
  9. Angel, DRM Wine Steward, posted a video of the last group on the Amsterdam going ashore. Angel is the one who created several of the other excellent videos. Enjoy their happiness. https://youtu.be/HD9YlS5sWMg
  10. I also learned from HAL (phone) yesterday, when calling on an unrelated issue, that my refund of 3/28/20 Nieuw Amsterdam port fees/taxes refund had been processed 5/29. It hasn't shown up on my credit card yet, but based on what other people here are reporting, I may see it tomorrow...or 6/5. For the canceled cruise I took the Future Cruise Credit, which arrived on 5/7. The cruise was canceled when everything shut down in mid-March. Sue/WDW1972

  12. June already, It would bring a smile to us if we could see the itinerary for the 2022 World Cruise. Most of the Amsterdam crew are almost home 😃
  13. Thank you! The current estimated plan is to spend 2.5 days in Amsterdam before the cruise and 2 full days in Copenhagen after the sailing, making for a solid 14-15 day trip.

  15. Jarrie, the barista at the Explorer’s Cafe, is still onboard the Amsterdam. She is hoping to go home soon. She messaged me that Sir Henk is still onboard. Can’t answer the question about the luggage as she has been quarantined for 21 days!
  16. We are looking at both the Amsterdam Vista and Neptune suites. What Vista Suite and/or what Neptune Suite would you ask about if you were making a new booking?
  17. today is Don't Give Up The Ship Day and Dare Day Paul's Law: You can't fall off the floor. 18. The best news is that all the crew left onboard that will be going home have tested negative which is no surprise to those who had been on the Amsterdam. They will probably be leaving later today as it will be Monday in Manila.
  19. No she didn’t Roy, she had just been on another ship. And there wasn’t enough time for her to be quarantined and tested before boarding the Amsterdam. Thus, we all put temporary tags on our suitcases.
  20. Unknown at this time, depends on the local Malaysian authorities. Since disembarking her pax in Fremantle, Western Australia in the days following her arrival there on March 21st, she has been allowed to dock/berth at a single port, that being Durban, South Africa on April 9th. She was only given permission there to disembark a very small group of South African crew (5) before her game plan was changed and she was sent back across the Indian Ocean to disembark non-essential crew off Tanjung Priok (Jakarta) and off Manila. This was/is still being in case of the latter, accomplished via her ship tenders as she was not allowed to dock/berth at both ports. My guess, and it's only a guess at this point, is that the luggage from the 2020 GWV guests will be taken off once she reaches her layup location which, by the looks of it, will be Labuan, Malaysia. If she won't be allowed to dock there, that can then only be accomplished by loading those pieces into ship's tenders (which will take many tender trips since those boats are designed to carry people and not cargo) and/or by allowing a local transport vessel to come alongside for such a transfer. Then the question beckons if the Malaysian authorities require those pieces of luggage to be tested and/or, in a worst case scenario, stored in a local warehouse for quarantine purposes (yes, I know, no cases of Covid-19 among Amsterdam's pax or crew) before being send on their long way home to the States, Canada and wherever else her pax hailed from. One thing I know for sure and that is that the young Canadian lady who is responsible for ensuring that the luggage is sent home to the correct location (she's been doing it for the last several years, coming onboard during the very last segment of A'dam's GWV) is very conscientious, a true professional, and knows what she's doing
  21. Do you think the Amsterdam will dock there to let the luggage off??
  22. I needed this with everything that is going on right now across the US. Many years ago on former Nieuw Amsterdam CD David DeHavilland would play this song over the PA speakers on deck at sail away with passengers at the rail singing along. Crowds in the terminal waving and streamers flying. Wonderful memories!
  23. Do you think maybe Princess was trying to create an itinerary with fewer less "exotic" ports in the event something goes awry and they have to end the cruise prematurely, similar to what happened with the Amsterdam? Princess had so many issues connected with the virus outbreak that maybe they're just trying to play it safe. So many of the ports towards the end of the cruise can be accomplished on a Med itinerary so I agree, it doesn't hold much appeal from a WC standpoint.

  25. A heads up; not every crew member, incl. Indonesians and Filipinos, will be getting off Amsterdam since they are needed in the Deck Dept (sailors, quartermasters/helmsmen, boatmen, security, crew doc, etc.), Technical Dept. (machinists, wipers, etc.). Hotel Dept. (cooks, admin, etc.) and other Depts until the ship reaches her layup location and goes to a minimum required skeleton crew
