    Queen Elizabeth 2018 Refit

I've noticed several articles lately about QE's 2019 itinerary mentioning she will be starting the 2019 season following a refit in late 2018. The Cunard FAQ shows QE's next scheduled refit is in 2018 (following her previous refit in 2014). I see there is a gap in QE's 2018 schedule between November 14 and November 30, 2018 so that's my guess as to when the refit will be happening. I haven't noticed any previous discussions about QE's upcoming 2018 refit here, so I thought it might be time to get a discussion started about it. With apparently only two weeks scheduled, I imagine routine maintenance will be the primary focus of this refit. I don't suppose there are many details out there yet about this refit, but if anyone has anything to contribute, I'd be interested to here about it. For starters, do we know if she will be going to Blohm+Voss or Fincantieri this time? Regards, John
  2. We will be staying at the Marriott Pinnacle and was wondering what would be the best way to get to Queen Elizabeth Park. Can we walk there, take the skytrain? --- prefer not to take bus or cab. Thanks in advance.
  3. We embark on our Christmas cruise on Queen Elizabeth December 17 2018, never cruised at Christmas before. Could anyone tell me their past experiences to what we can expect on Christmas day regarding meal times etc. Thank You.

    Queen Elizabeth: 14-17 December

Hello everyone I’m travelling on the Xmas mini cruise on QE from 14-17 December. I received an email this morning to say that due to a need for essential equipment testing, the scheduled sea day has been replaced by another day in Zeebrugge (so we now have two in total). Does anyone have any more info on this? I know that the QE has just returned to service following an upgrade. Is work still ongoing?

    Queen Elizabeth Cabin: 8166 BE

Hi all, In the interest of assisting fellow cruisers I just wanted to give my balanced and candid feedback regarding the cabin my wife and I shared on a 14 day Canary cruise with Cunard 1-15th October 2018. General Cabin Feedback The Cabin was clean and not showing significant signs of being tired although a ship refit is imminent. The cabin was also very well maintained / cleaned by our steward, Edgar. Cabin Position: This cabin is at the rear most end of the ship with only a few staterooms before the aft. It is on deck 8 right below the Lido pool area. Ordinarily we would opt for a cabin with a passenger deck above and below to ensure less chance of noise but our choice to go away was last minute and there were few options left. Ship Movement / Sway Despite 4 metre sea swells on one evening we didn’t feel this cabin put us at any disadvantage having stayed previously in mid ships deck 5. I did hear other passengers complain that were at the front however. I have therefore concluded anything rear on mid ships is fine for ships movement etc. Plus Sides of Being Below Lido Pool Area: One single flight of stairs and a turn left / right gets you right into the buffet where you can get all the food / beverages you wish for when not using the other more formal dining venues. My wife and I found this very convenient. It was also very convenient for the Lido pool deck being as were less than a minute walk from it. Negative Sides of Being Below Lido Pool Area: As our cabin was directly below the Lido deck, every morning at around 6am we could hear deck chairs being dragged across the deck above us. This disturbance lasted only for around a minute but could be mildly irritating and I suspect for some this would be a big issue. Now at this stage I am risking sounding like a miserable so-and-so but I did actually struggle with sleeping on this voyage (not due to the deck chairs). One evening we decided not to go out and have a quiet night in with a view to going to sleep around 10pm so I could be fully refreshed for the next day. However… there was a deck party right above us and when this finished at 10:30pm I assumed that would be it. To my frustration it started again for the second sitting diners and continued until 12:30pm. I have no issues with late night parties and ordinarily would have been there myself. However, when I haven’t had a decent night sleep for days and am awoken by “Rock around the clock” with some loud mouth on a microphone repeatedly yelling “1,2-1.2.3, 1,2,3,4” you may understand my grievance. In my view at no stage should somebody lying in bed in their cabin with the doors / windows hear every word spoken, accompanied with the thuds of dancing and foot tapping from the entertainers through the floor. I’ve stayed in hotels above nightclubs with less noise! In fairness although some (including my wife) feel I am being a little “grumpy” in my feedback regarding the party, bear in mind I am 33 and this was only an issue for me once. If you were the kind of folks that liked to regularly retire early then with the Lido parties, this location is best avoided. Hope that helps somebody...
  7. After my trip Southampton to Melbourne I have to go on to New Zealand. Cunard recommend not flying earlier than 1pm. The only decent flight for me is at 12.10pm, would mean being at the airport by 9.10am theoretically.. Anyone with experience know what might be the earliest time I could get ashore & clear the formalities ? Many thanks, John

    QM2 meets HMS Queen Elizabeth

From Cunard's Facebook page "Queen Mary 2 greeted the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth in New York Harbor yesterday. Captain Christopher Wells, Master of Cunard's Queen Mary 2, said: "It is a huge honour to bring Queen Mary 2 to meet HMS Queen Elizabeth, for the first time, here in New York harbor, and for the opportunity to salute the Royal Navy's new aircraft carrier." Queen Elizabeth - Casino

I do enjoy spending an hour or two in the casino if my other half (or in the case of my next cruise my mother) is in the Spa or doing a dance class. I play a few slots -I realise it's not for everyone and there are many other things to do! Actually, my mother also likes to play a bit. Anyway, as I am going on the QE, I checked out a few recent pictures of the casino and noticed the machines looked really old and out of date. I then looked at some pictures from the launch in 2010 and they were the same machines. I asked the Cunard twitter feed if they had every been changed and they replied that they were the originals from 2010. Technology has changed hugely in the last 8 years and the machines are so much better now (and you can fit a lot of games into one cabinet so it increases choice without taking up more space). It's not a big deal but still very strange and I've not seen it before on any other cruise line where machines are replaced fairly regularly. I can only think that Cunard clientele don't have much interest in the Casino so the company have not bothered putting any effort into it.
  11. Not sure what this is all about. Just went to check my roll call for Konigsdam and all the Cunard Queen ships are listed????? Did I miss something? Apparently CC update about as good as HAL update. Jane

    Cunard Photo Shopping Queen Mary

The front page of the Cunard UK website has a picture of a couple standing on the new top deck of Queen Mary. I think one of the radar domes has been removed leaving a rather odd looking stump. Best wishes,Stephen. Sent from my iPad using Forums

    Upset with Cunard

This is our second long cruise with Cunard in January. Requested lowest inside cabin. This cruise was to celebrate 40 years. We Got an upgrade to 1c which is next to laundry and above theater where there is noise all the time. Read reviews on 4045. Not good! Platinum World members and this is how you are treated. Last time in09 we could pick ?our room. Absolute worst room on the ship.anyone else have a problem . Thinking ofcancellingandnever go on Cunard again
  14. On this US Cunard website ( https://vp.cunard.com/Life-on-Board/Ship-Facilities-/ ) it says laundry detergent costs money. We will be on the Queen Elizabeth. Is this really true?? (In order to make people use the marine biodegradable detergent it’s always been free on the other cruise lines I’ve been on.) “Each ship has a number of complimentary washing machines, dryers and irons at your disposal. Washing tablets can be purchased on board.”

    Cunard Pillows

My wife wants to try to purchase one of the navy Cunard pillows that are in the cabins. My question is not whether this is possible or not. Rather, who would be the best person to talk to on board to get a definitive, face to face response? Thanks.

    Save the Queen!

It is now official! At a signing ceremony in Washington, DC the president signed into law S-140 the bill which has an amendment which would once again allow the U.S. National Historic Landmark, Steamer DELTA QUEEN to travel once again overnight on the much fabled Mississippi River System. The boat's owner The Delta Queen Steamboat Co. www.deltaqueen.com reports that after a complete refurbishment the DELTA QUEEN will return to service in 2020.

    Cunard Site Down?

Is anyone else having trouble logging into any of the Cunard sites (cunardline.com.au or cunard.co.uk or cunard.com)? I am in Australia. Over the past few weeks I tried to log into Cunard Australia and it directed me to UK site, but now none of them come up. People tried a variety of ways to help with that situation, to no avail. But now cannot access any.

    Cunard Roll call

I'm guessing I'm doing something wrong.... As of yesterday our roll call was visible and working. Today when I go to the Cunard Roll call spot to click, it looks like Cunard has been stuck into the listing as an after thought. When I did click on it, it starts with 2010.... Seems like some sort of snafu? or am I doing something wrong? Looking for the Nov. 25th, 2018 Caribbean cruise out on NY. Can't find it, even when doing the "find your roll call" thing...not there!

    The return of Cunard Pens

Hurrah! According to a passenger on the last Westbound crossing, Cunard pens have returned to the QM2! She had one in her cabin. - Mark
  25. I recall reading about a Cunard Promotional Code, whereby past guests had (and could provide) new customers with said code. Yes, it sounds 'Harry Potter(ish) - a secret handshake or 'meet a Platform 9 3/4' but I distinctly recall the pay it forward mechanism, but not 100 % sure it was Cunard. Perhaps a simpler question - would QM2 be suitable for a father-daughter trip (London to NY). She's 20. Our family has completed Transatlantic (albeit Disney 10 years ago), Alaska (Disney), Caribbean (HAL and others) and wife and I enjoy Azamara alone. This is unique - one way flight back across the pond is $900 due to one way booking there and a Black Friday Cunard sale makes sailing back to North America comparable. Thanks in advance and a belated Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends.
