  1. HI all. Myself, my partner, my mom and her best friend were on the May 20th sailing round trip out of Dublin to the Norwegian Fjords. The cruise was amazing, the fjords spectacular and weather couldn’t have been better. Only downside was that my mom’s best friend became sick on day 3 of 8 day cruise. She really never left her bed after day 3. She went to the ship doctor and was diagnosed with a “virus” and gave her an antibiotic. She continued to get worse. By time we disembarked, she needed a wheelchair thru the airports and once we wer back in Florida, she went straight to the hospital. She was diagnosed with Pneumonia caused by Legianella bacteria which is the cause of Legionnaires disease. I guess typically the source is air vents, water faucets etc. Apparently cruise ships are a major source of the transmission of Legianella bacteria. The health dept came to her hospital bed and interviewed her to do an investigation . She was hospitalized for 5 days. About a week later, she had to meet with a CDC doctor who told her he was fairly certain it probably came from the rain shower head in the bathroom?? Odd. But ok. I dont know if he narrowed it down to that because my mom didnt get sick and they were sharing a cabin and mom didnt use the rain shower head, she used the normal shower head only? To me, it sounds like the doctor was just making an educated guess since ships are the most common source apparently and because of the timing of when she started showing symptoms? To me. I’m a bit skeptical, perhaps the airplane, the hotel in Dublin, back home in Florida? But what do i know, I’m not a doctor. But it has been a back and forth thing and constant speculation ever since. I just thought I would see if anyone else came down with it while on the ship or has heard anything about anyone taking ill. They were in sky suite 2132 (12 th deck)....The rest of us were totally fine, so...just weird. Thanks for everyone’s time....
  2. Like most of you I got the e-mail confirming Eclipse will be coming down under in 2020 and in the e-mail it had a list of cruises that Eclipse will be doing from Nov 2020 until Apr 2021 but when I go on celebrities website and go to find a cruise (there are a couple that I am interested in) it comes up saying 'No Results Found - Unfortunately there were no cruise packages found matching the current search criteria'... I know I've got the right dates and everything, but nothing will come up - why would this be? is it possible that celebrity have not yet put these itineraries in the system yet? and if so why are they advertising them if we cannot view them? does anyone know why nothing will come up for the dates celebrity have advertised in their e-mail?
  3. Since 2021 cruises are coming out, I am thinking on doing this cruise Hawaii to Vancouver. Has anybody done this cruise? How did you find so many sea days in a row? Any excursions you would recommend for 2 ladies in the late 60's?
  4. Booking Pacific Coastal repositioning this week on Eclipse for March 2020? Please tell me about the ship, about the differences between Royal and Celebrity. I think things will mostly be the same, but am interested to see what the differences might be. So what should I expect? Have done Allure, Anthem, Radiance (and upcoming Rhapsody) with Royal and Pacific with Princess, so I've tried all sorts of sizes of ships already. Really prefer the 2000-3000 pax ships. Unfortunately I don't have enough Royal loyalty points to get equivalent status on Celebrity... aaaaaah maybe some day.
  5. When we were on Equinox this past Spring, the Elite Cocktail Hour was held in the lounge. In reading recent posts here on CC, I have noted that drinks coupons are being used on some of the ~X~ ship. Does anyone have recent experience with happy hour on Eclipse? I'll be sailing her in December and wondering how it will be handled. Thanks for any input! Donna
  6. I am concerned about all the comments on vibrations on this ship as we are going on it in October. We are in cabin 7344 towards stern. Usually we go forward to keep away from engine and prop shafts as they are known sources of vibration. We chanced this booking on basis that as this ship has azimuth pod drive, prop vib would not be a problem. Also our cabin is well astern of the main engines. I am a very bad sleeper and need real silence to get a good nights sleep. I would appreciate the latest comments on the vibrations/noise, particularly in relation to the cabin location.
  7. Hi all. We are doing our first Celebrity cruise on Eclipse in the spring. We have a 4 night dining package and I am wondering how far in advance you can book reservations? Also can they be booked on the website or do you need to call in? Thanks!
  8. 5am and wide awake in Barcelona! No jet lag, we had an easy trip over from the U.K. the day before yesterday I am just excited! We will be boarding in 6 hours! How nice it is that no matter how many cruises you do that anticipation of stepping on board and hearing your first sea pass ‘ting’ doesn’t wane.... As always we have flown in a few days prior to our cruise. Whilst we are only flight wise a few hours away we are not brave (or reckless?) enough to risk flying in same day. For those who followed our last adventure on the Reflection in March our strategy of always arriving early paid off when our flight was cancelled and then our luggage didn’t arrive with us. It was very refreshing to arrive here on schedule and with clean clothes to wear! Barcelona is a city we have visited before so without the pressure of feeling the need to ‘see and do’ everything we have leisurely visited a couple of (very good) museums and had time to enjoy a few nice meals and soak up the ambiance of the city. We have stayed at the Crown Plaza, Fira and would recommend. It has some lovely suite rooms, a nice club lounge and a rooftop restaurant with fantastic views. We have cruised Eclipse twice before from Southampton when I had some mobility issues and could not fly. The high service level and attention to detail on board made the cruises very memorable. I am a little more mobile now and looking forward to seeing some of our favourite ports including Valletta and Santorini again. Our young adult son has squashed this cruise into his busy work and social schedule so the Royal Suite is ideal and works much better for enjoying some family time than booking two rooms. Whilst he rarely joins us on other holiday types he invariably joins us for our SKI (spend kids inheritance) cruises! I will post our experiences from on board and will try to answer any questions you may have on Eclipse, the ports visited or the suite life experience.
  9. We got off the Eclipse this past Friday after a wonderful Mediterranean Cruise. I chose and booked this cabin 20 months ago and was very excited to have a cabin on the front hump. It's in a great location, pretty close to the midship elevator, through a double glass door that opens automatically when necessary, but otherwise remains closed, keeping out noise from the center. This is a typical balcony room and was great, except..... the room vibrated. It vibrated 24/7, but most of the time it wasn't too bad and we were able to sleep through it. Sometimes though is was pretty bad, enough that we would leave the room to find somewhere that was still. The cruise was 12 nights and after living with that for that length of time, I find that when I lay down in bed at night, I still feel like I'm vibrating. We did not complain as I knew the ship was fully booked and there would have been no where for us to go. If we hadn't been able to sleep, I would have said something. Someone who is more sensitive to movement could really be bothered staying in this cabin.
  10. Hello Everyone, Could someone please tell me the email address for the Michael's Club concierge on the Eclipse. My understanding is that her name is Bianca, Many Thanks
  11. We are new to Celebrity and have never cruised any of her ships. Thinking of an inside room for a California Coastal cruise. Which deck should we go for and why? Also would love to hear any and all feedback on the ship! thanks so much!!!
  12. I am unable to locate the noted "sticky" for cabin information so could anyone tell me what Aqua cabin locations to avoid on the Eclipse and/or if there are any "best" ones.? We are not interested in sunning ,but do need to be close to some elevator as there are some mobility issues..(.not enough for an ADA cabin). Aqua seems the best choice given the shower and use of Blu restaurant. Noise from overhead would definitely be a problem. We are seasoned cruisers and know Cruise Critic is the place to go for accurate information!
  13. Cruise Critic has a new look! I'd search for this answer but I can't quite figure out how. Which deck is the Captain's Bridge located on? Looking at booking a forward AQ cabin on the Penthouse deck. Thanks! Ellen
