  1. Did I miss a lot of posts that were removed?? I read jg51 and Lady Arwin posts and the responses to them and I haven’t seen insulting attacks. I’ve seen posts pointing out that there is a difference between opinion and fact, and what someone is comfortable with and what is needed to protect our communities. If you won’t wear a mask....stay home. I think I put in my initial post that personally, I’m not going on a cruise that requires wearing a mask in public areas.....not because I dont’ think it should be required, but because I’m not going to pay for a cruise and spend the majority of time in my SR or walk around in a mask. I’d do that if I chose to cruise, but I’ll wait. There is a big difference between stating that and going on and on about how masks hurt my ears. To be quite straightforward, no one cares what the ‘issues’ someone has with wearing a mask. My mother-in-law complained that seat belts put wrinkles in her blouses....I explained to her it was better than having her brain matter splattered all over her blouse. You can guess how well that went over!! And even if you think you need to stress some word or phrase or sentence, most of us quit reading when someone throws capital letters into their post. Put ‘Quotes’ around it or start it with a Capital Letter or whatever. enough. I’m sitting here sipping a Nice (Capital letter because it Is Nice!) Chardonnay and relaxing. But I do I do I do wish I was on the Eclipse enjoying it!! Den
  2. HOLLAND AMERICA BOARD'S FUTURE CRUISE LISTING Updated July 17th, 2020 We all love to hear what cruises you are booked on. I post the Bon Voyage threads 7 days before sailing so, to be included in this, you need to post your details here to allow sufficient time to be on the updated Future Cruise Listing. It’s better to post earlier than later but if it is later please post THREE weeks in advance to make sure it doesn’t get missed. We would also be interested to know if this is your first cruise, your first HAL cruise or if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Details needed are in the 2nd post of this thread. Please use REPLY and not QUOTE when posting to this thread. Using 'Quote' makes a very long thread and difficult for others to read. While this list is a lot of fun, please don't mistake it for a Roll Call thread. You can go to the Roll Call Section here on Cruise Critic and find your cruise to sign up there too. That's where your Meet & Greet planning, tour sharing, and other activities specific to your cruise will be happening. This week’s additions and changes are in BOLD and highlighted in aqua (sea colours). 3. While this could start some strong debates, perhaps it is time for those of us that regularly sail on luxury and/or premium/premium plus cruise lines to list what YOU think belongs in the “Luxury” or “Premium Plus” category. The intent of this thread is to help people that may be considering one of these cruise lines. You don’t have to prove that the category that you place a cruise line in is correct - only that you believe that it is. It would be helpful if you posted why you feel the cruise line belongs in the category (think that we should not posted cruise lines that have not launched their ships yet such as Scenic Eclipse and Ritz Carlton. Obviously, I’ll start: In alphabetical order: Luxury Crystal Hapag Lloyd (German speaking) Regent Seadream Yacht Club Seabourn Silverea Luxury/Premium Plus Azamara Oceania Viking Ocean
  4. Well with all the concern about travelling in 2020, we chose to lift and shift to 2021. This will be our second trip to Alaska, and out first cruise on Celebrity. We are looking forward to the trip and plan to spend a day or so in Vancouver and we are looking forward to meeting all of our fellow cruisers. I can't wait to get planning on excursions, plans. We would love to get your input on making it the best trip ever. Please join and tell us about you and your cruising experience. Jeff and Mary
  5. We cancelled our December 2020 cruise twice. Looking forward to our Alaska cruise and land tour next August and out B2B on Apex in 2022. We really splurged on these cruises, PH on Eclipse and Villa on Apex. We got good prices on both.

  7. Just home from the March 1- 30 sailing of the Eclipse. We were told NO ONE was sick with the virus. Now we found out a passenger has tested positive with the virus. The passenger was diagnosed by the ship's doctor with bronchitis about a week ago. They were sent back to their cabin. Then the passenger was diagnosed with pneumonia several days ago. Upon arriving home the passenger has tested positive with the virus. Way to go Celebrity for exposing 4,000 passengers & crew to the virus. Way to go Celebrity for sending thousands home exposing who knows how many to this. You are always saying the health & safety of our passengers is #1 to us. Looks like your bottom line is #1. Anyone who had symptoms of any breathing disorder should have been confined to their cabins. This passenger should have been tested before anyone was permitted to debark the ship.
  8. Thought I would start a new Topic for Refunding Status for Scenic Eclipse passengers that had their cruise cancelled due to the Covid Pandemic. In my case, I requested a cash refund the day Scenic notified my TA that the cruise had been cancelled. No response from Scenic except to parrot the party line that each cancellation would receive a future cruise voucher for 110% of the cruise value. Despite multiple requests of Scenic(emails), there have been no responses or refund status since the cancellation on 6 April. This could escalate very quickly to a lawsuit for Breach of Contract for violation of their own set of T&Cs. Anybody else have a similar story to share?
  9. Right now, 5pm on Tuesday, there is a thread on the first page of the Celebrity forum showing how the 4 Celebrity ships anchored off Coco Cay are getting & delivering Covid tests. Edge, Eclipse & Silhouette ... can't remember the 4th ... Just went back to find the link ... video is on page 3 of the thread
  10. (4:30 p.m. EDT) – Scenic has begun construction on the line's second "discovery ship", Scenic Eclipse II, with the cutting of the first steel for the vessel at the Maj 3 Shipyard in Rijeka, Croatia. Like its sister Scenic Eclipse, which debuted in 2019, Scenic Eclipse II will be a hybrid luxury yacht and expedition vessel, capable of ... View the full article
  11. Actually TUI are mainly a land based holiday company in the UK and the German TUI have a big presence in land holidays as well. The UK part was originally Thomson and kept on trading as such over here after TUI took over about 20 years ago now. The trade name of Thomson kept on for long time and the cruises they ran were also still known a Thomson cruises. The trade name TUI came in over here in recent years, then they decided to call their cruises Marella Cruises to prevent confusion with the German TUI Cruises. First Choice, another very big holiday company, was merged with them at some stage (not sure of business side of that) and the direct booking arm of both of those (Portland and Eclipse) were ditched by the company. There have also been links with other brands, including a more up market one with tailor made packages and exotic tours (Hayes and Jarvis) that came and went a few years later. So TUI is certainly is a big company with a lot of travel agency branches as well. Since Thomas Cook went down, it is the only really big, well known, company offering mass market holidays and I have no reason to think they are in a bad way business wise. They are certainly causing a lot of people a whole lot of grief mind. At least their land holidays are now starting off again, albeit slowly with a lot of holidays still being cancelled. Our Tui Spanish holiday for November has now been cancelled (thankfully as we did not want to go), so with CMV as well, we have now lost two holidays in 2 days with different companies. Looks like we can re book our land holiday and our insurance company will let us retain full insurance for COVID (even for cancellation), so we are thinking of doing that, perhaps for next spring in the hope we can be vaccinated by then, but will choose a holiday in a quiet location which would not be too much of a risk if restrictions still in place. Yes sad about CMV, and particularly for all the people who will loose their jobs because of it, but it was looking a mammouth task for them to keep going, as cruises do not look like they are going anywhere much for some time. I wonder when Fred will publish his future cruise plans and what they will be - definitely a watch this space job. Cheers, Barbara
  12. Hi there, Looking at changing our cruise to next year which gives us several room options. My TA has indicated that the balconies are the same size in square feet, however I see the 1233 appears much bigger. Just wondering your thoughts if you have any insight. TIA
  13. Any help from people in the UK that were on this btb cruise of South America that ended in San Diego, would be appreciated. As you know on the 14th March we were told that we were going to debark in San Antonio, Chile as the cruise was not going to continue to San Diego, USA. We all had to pack our suitcases as we had to leave the ship the next morning. There was a mad scramble to book flights home, which we had to do independently as it was very difficult to get through to any airline. We did not have Choice Air so Celebrity would not help us. We managed to book but as it was less than 3 days before the flight we could not cancel when we were prevented from leaving the ship. Some people on the 15th April cruise that could not board the ship have been fully reimbursed their airfare. I know their circumstances are different but has anyone from the UK received any money from Celebrity for these flights to nowhere?
  14. Croatiaweek reports as of April 24, 2020 the 3. Maj dockyard in Zagreb has started work on Eclipse II, for Scenic. This ship is the first new ship to be built at the dockyard after four years. According to the article the laying of the keel, which I believe was previously to have been in late March of this year will instead be at the beginning of this summer with the Scenic Group planning to buyild an additional four MORE polar cruise ships in the 3. Maj dockyard with a contract value of 860 million Euros. www.croatiaweek.com is the source of this information but it is especially good news for those cruisers booking cruises in 2022...wonder where the maiden voyage will begin and how, with two ships at sea, Scenic will deploy them--maybe some circumnavigations of Australia, New Zealand and Japan?? Inquiring minds are spinning! Three cheers for some good news in these challenging times.

  18. We are on the Celebrity Eclipse five-day Pacific Coastal and the following nine-day Alaskan cruise. Both leave out of Vancouver. This is about as low stress with a service dog as you can get. All you need is an Aphis Form 7001 (without endorsement) and a current rabies certificate. Since all of the ports are in the US or British Columbia, you are covered by either the ADA or the BC service dog law which is very similar.
  19. See this link for an article in today's San Diego Union-Tribune. I didn't know there were some South American passengers still aboard Eclipse. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/business/tourism/story/2020-04-30/cruising-has-stopped-but-ships-with-thousands-of-crew-members-still-in-san-diego-waiting-to-return-home Cruises have stopped, but ships with thousands of crew members still in San Diego waiting to return home
  20. Mind traveling #3... it’s time again to take your mind to distant places again. This time we would like to kidnap you to wonderful Iceland. Sit back, relax, click on the link and travel the world with us: http://www.travelandcruise.net/travellove_en/Our-Trips/Eclipse-Iceland-1/eclipse-iceland-1.html Stay safe and healthy (and at home)!!! PS: In loving memory of our travel companion Ursula, who sadly past away a year after this cruise.
  21. I've having a hard time comparing them in terms of the physical layout.
  22. They are both still in San Diego area, Eclipse at anchor and Millennium doing a circle and heading back there.
  23. Did Millennium and Eclipse leave San Diego? does anyone know where they are now?
  24. Well, it’s just that some of us really love to cruise and perhaps against our better judgement still hope we can do so again soon. This would be the fourth cruise this year that I have canceled or had canceled. Celebrity Eclipse in March, Seabourn Ovation in May, and Regent Seven Seas Mariner in Oct. Fortunate not to have lost any money in any of these cruises and don’t intend to with this crystal cruise either. Two cruise booked for next April and Dec. Time will tell.
  25. I seem to recall that Celebrity have some decent prices from Southampton to the fjords. We have been on silhouette and Eclipse. They are nice ships, standard is better than P&O. We are booked on Eclipse in Alaska next June. Sadly Gary won't be aboard.😁
