  1. I'm booked on Celebrity Eclipse for late January 2021. We have been on Eclipse and like the ship very much. The ship was clean, food good and the staff outstanding. We booked the 2021 cruise at about this time last year when we were on an Alaskan Cruise. We have spent months planning this and hope it will happen. If we are are able we will be on Eclipse in Late January 2021. Auckland to Melbourne, it's a good itinerary, have a look.
  2. I have just booked a Celebrity Suite on the Trans Pac after the Eclipse Revolution Dry dock. When buying they had a pop-up quoting the price for an Undisclosed upgrade. When you look for more details the link takes you to photos of the “Sunset Suite”. it does not show any location just says the cabin is 527sqft. I could not find the cabins on the deck plan either. Does anyone know where these cabins will be located? The price is about 20% more than a CS and 10% less than RS. Seems steep for only 30 or so square feet.
  3. Never done Holland but have done about 10 Celebrity cruises, including a 14 night Antarctica on Eclipse round trip from Buenos Aires in 2019. Eclipse and Silhouette are sister ships and nearly identical, we have been on both. This sailing is a little different than most because it is so special going to Antartica, and there is a different vibe on the ship. Kind of a combination of wanting to learn and “how luck are we” to be going there. The experience for us was wonderful, we had been on Eclipse several times the food and entertainment was similar but there was more guest speakers and learning opportunities during that cruise.
  4. Well the Millennium is still sitting off the coast of San Diego, CA along with the Eclipse. Both the TPs were cancelled. We were booked on the Eclipse 10/11 - Japan, Taiwan & Vietnam and 10/27 Vietnam & Thailand cruises and cancelled to day. I wasn't about to make final payment for cruises that have a very good chance of being cancelled. We are still waiting for the refund of port fees & taxes from a cruise we cancelled on March 20th.
  5. My husband and I just returned from a 7 day Alaska cruise on the Celebrity Eclipse Sept 1-8 2019. It was one of my best cruises, and probably the most relaxing one. Since I was on a brand new ship, the Norwegian Bliss last January, I will be doing some comparisons. On the Eclipse I was able to relax more, and it was less crowded than on the Bliss. The Eclipse has 1426 staterooms with 2850 passengers. The Bliss is much larger with 2043 staterooms and 4004 passengers. The Eclipse was more quiet and relaxing than the busy energy on the Bliss. Since I wanted peace and quiet on this cruise, the Eclipse was the better one for that. When it comes to the embarcation lunch, the Bliss did much better for it’s passengers. The main dining room was open for ALL passengers as well as the buffet and the Local. With the stress of travelling, standing in line, checking in, customs etc. I like to sit down in a peaceful setting for lunch, and that was not available for me on the Eclipse. My options was Sushi on Five or the buffet. The buffet was crowded and busy, and not a good start on the cruise. I definitely had better options on the Bliss. We enjoyed the dining on Eclipse better than the Bliss. The Manhattan room on the Bliss was extremely noisy, while the Midnight Sonata on the Eclipse was quiet and calm. The service was much better on the Eclipse, and the food was better. The one negative on the Eclipse was that the 2 person dining tables were extremely close together, so it was like we were on a table for 4. On the Bliss we did not have that problem. We had Select Dining and it worked very well. Our cabin was 8279 which is one of the large balcony cabins on the bump. I spent most of my time on the balcony with my book, Diet Coke, Hot tea and blankets. This balcony, and a large balcony I had on Norwegian's Pride of America are the best balconies I have had. I am grateful to all the contributors on this forum who was able to help me find the perfect balcony for me. Since spending my day on the balcony is so important to me, and I don’t want to run to a bar whenever I want my Diet Coke, I brought my own 12 pack onboard. For others being able to bring some soda onboard is not important, but for me it is. It was an irritant for me that I had to go to the bar on the Bliss every time I wanted to drink some Diet Coke on my balcony. Norwegian’s ban on bringing soda onboard may be why I won’t choose them again. For others not a big deal, for me it is. One place where Norwegian did better on the Bliss, than what Celebrity does is the bathroom. Here is a picture of the spacious bathroom, with a fantastic shower on the Bliss. n I think the entertainment was good on both the Eclipse and the Bliss. I especially like the Paul McCartney tribute band on the Eclipse as well as their production shows. The singers were better on the Eclipse. The observation lounge on the Eclipse was forgettable. I didn’t even remember to take a picture of it. I will never forget the one on the Bliss with its 5 food stations and bar. Lots of loungers and places to sit or lay down. Here are some pictures. Bliss observation lounge The last portion of my review is where Eclipse wins. It is not even a competition the Eclipse is so much better than the Bliss. Service. On Norwegian Bliss you could feel the crew did not want to be there. They did the minimum they could get away with, and hardly ever smiled. On the Eclipse I was always greeted warmly with a smile. The servers knew our names. The bartenders knew our names, Our stateroom attendant, Menino, was amazing, and the service was excellent wherever we went. It was the best service I have experienced on all my cruises. This is the reason I will continue to cruise with Celebrity. So in summary: If you don’t mind being nicled and dimed, and If you want lots of activities (co-carts, lazer tag, bowling etc.) and you have young adults, teens and kids in your party, then the Norwegian Bliss is the ship to go on. If on the other hand you want peace and quiet, wonderful music everywhere, great food and a more elegant setting, and fantastic service, then the Eclipse is the way to go.
  6. I wouldn't claim to know better than the Captain.......but. we were on a sea day having left Isla Mararita on Ocean Village. I said to the Captain in the coffee shop " will we see much of the solar eclipse this afternoon ? " I don't think so sir. My DW said he doesn't know what you're talking about. At the noon announcement he told everyone about the eclipse and that officers would be on deck with welding goggles for those who wanted to look. I bet he thought, flipping know all .Great thing that internet.
  7. That's ridiculous. Our reservation was for a 19 night cruise going in the opposite direction in April 2021 on the Solstice. The next cruise is April 2022 on the Eclipse for 18 nights. Some members of our roll call said their TA's could not re-book them on the 2022 Eclipse voyage because it was *less* nights, and that they could only get the November 2021 Honolulu-Sydney segment, instead. I was able to Lift and Shift to April 2022 without a problem. I was prepared to do battle, but only had to hold about half an hour with a nice Captain's Club rep. I made the reservation directly with Celebrity. I would b!tch, and fire my TA if I were you.
  8. We are on the 05 Jan 2020 cruise on Eclipse out of San Antonio. Our captain is being cautious and cancelled our port in Punta Arenas due to a Pacific storm with very high winds generating 30 ft seas! We will be riding it out in the more protected Chilean Fjords until the storm passes. We are disappointed to miss the penguin tours planned but safety is priority one!
  9. Hello - We had a WONDERFUL Celebrity Suite on the Millie recently (Asia Cruise) with the exception of the HORRIBLE HIGH tub/shower combo - that you had to climb in/out of to take a shower or bath. We are looking at a great itinerary on the Eclipse ((Singapore-Sydney,Australia) This may sound silly to those that have not experienced it - but - Can anyone tell us if the Celebrity Suites on the Eclipse have the same combo shower/tub as the Millie (HIGH, HIGH, HIGH) ? Thank You 😀
  10. We're going to Alaska on the Eclipse in July 2020. Does anyone know if there will be a Naturalist on board and if so who it is. We were on the Solstice in 2015 and Brent Nixon was the Naturalist and was excellent, he usually had at least 1 presentation daily .
  11. Beautiful! We never sailed on the Eclipse..hopefully someday if she comes to the east coast of U.S. Anyone have updates on Connie location and plans?
  12. Hi, we are going on the South American cruise March 1st. Wondered if anyone had some good information on the different tours at the ports. Also wanted to know if there were any good private tours that are cheaper then the ones the cruise line offers.
  13. As I see it the fjordland part of the cruise is probably the highlight, so I think that should be a major consideration. We like the Eclipse so I think will try to stick with her. Unfortunately she is showing Sydney as her home port so we may have to change the order of our Oz adventure. The new plan would have us fly into Auckland and cruise to Sydney spend a few days there then fly to Melbourne and do our self drive tour then fly back to Auckland for the direct flight home. Of course this all depends on Air New Zealand reinstating the Vancouver to Auckland direct flight.
  14. HOLLAND AMERICA BOARD'S FUTURE CRUISE LISTING Updated July 3rd, 2020 We all love to hear what cruises you are booked on. I post the Bon Voyage threads 7 days before sailing so, to be included in this, you need to post your details here to allow sufficient time to be on the updated Future Cruise Listing. It’s better to post earlier than later but if it is later please post THREE weeks in advance to make sure it doesn’t get missed. We would also be interested to know if this is your first cruise, your first HAL cruise or if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Details needed are in the 2nd post of this thread. Please use REPLY and not QUOTE when posting to this thread. Using 'Quote' makes a very long thread and difficult for others to read. While this list is a lot of fun, please don't mistake it for a Roll Call thread. You can go to the Roll Call Section here on Cruise Critic and find your cruise to sign up there too. That's where your Meet & Greet planning, tour sharing, and other activities specific to your cruise will be happening. This week’s additions and changes are in BOLD and highlighted in aqua (sea colours). 15. People have to do what they are comfortable doing. And decide if you trust the company that you are giving your money to. It is a risk and you have to consider you may not see your money again for a long time...and what happens if they go out of business? Does your travel protection include financial default of an operator? You can’t rely on Credit card protection — typically, they provide for default if you buy an item and don’t receive it because the provider goes bankrupt, but not a service, such as travel. Consider: the shipyard where he Eclipse was being built went bankrupt; Scenic had to step in and pay to get the yacht finished. It didn’t saiL for many months; that’s lost revenue plus they had to compensate passengers. They lose a class action lawsuit and have to pay out $$$millions. Covid-19 happens and they have get passengers off the Eclipse/tours/river cruises home. No revenue coming in since probably February. They are having new ships built and have to pay the shipyard. I don’t care that the owner had a statement on the website saying how “well-resourced” they are, that’s a lot of outlay of $$$ and cash flow out, no matter how wealthy you are. As Warren Buffett said, “it is only when the tide goes out that you see who is swimming naked.” My partner is an attorney and no, force majeur does not override anything and means they can keep your money. In fact, if a force majeur happens, there is no reason for them to keep your money since they are not operating. Believe what you will, but keeping your money is a free loan for them, and they evidently need it otherwise they would offer a refund like most other cruise lines. After dealing with this company for several months, I would not give them any money. And I can see why that passenger won the case on them causing him emotional distress. And how they lost the class action lawsuit filed by 140 passengers. https://cruisepassenger.com.au/hundreds-win-compensation-after-scenic-loses-high-court-battle-over-flood-hit-cruises/ I wish everyone a positive outcome with this company and do hope for the best. We all want to get back onboard sailing/cruising ASAP. It is just important to consider as many factors and outcomes as possible before moving forward. It’s a personal decision, based on each person’s individual circumstances and risk tolerance (and gut feeling!), whether to give them your money for a future cruise...especially not knowing when or in what format, and with what protocols (I.e., will you have to wear a mask while onboard?), cruising will be operating. Lots of uncertainties on many levels to consider.
  16. Well was just about to book Eclipse February 2021 Australia ,thought this might be a realistic timeframe .On BBC just said that Government are advising against all cruising . Well that’s that then ,this will cripple Southampton thought a lot of Brits would try a no fly one first taking the stress out of any flights but this Came out of the blue ,whilst they Are pushing flights to med.
  17. You had an unfortunate experience that I don’t think is typical. We’ve sailed in AQ on Eclipse multiple times and had some of our best Blu experiences ever. In fact, made some friends with some of the excellent staff members that we have been Facebook friends with for a long time, as well as meeting up with them on various ships over the years, including multiple Eclipse sailings.
  18. Below is from Australian website .. updated yesterday. After I post this I will go and read the 'original' Terms and Conditions (I have the 2020 printed booklet) and will report what I find. .......................................................................... 18 June 2020 Scenic Group Travel Policy and Advisory Update: COVID-19 Our Reservation Centre is currently experiencing unprecedented high call volumes resulting in unusually long wait times. We appreciate you require updated information to finalise your future travel plans and we are working as quickly as possible to be able to provide the relevant details. OPERATIONAL UPDATES We hope that you and your families are all well and starting to adapt your plans as the Australian and New Zealand Governments slowly start to ease the recent health and safety restrictions. However, due to the continued Government travel restrictions and international border closures, it continues to be impossible for us to operate our schedules for guests with bookings departing from Australia and New Zealand. This has required the temporary suspension of Scenic Group (including Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, Emerald Waterways and Evergreen Cruises & Tours) departures for all river and ocean cruises, and for land tours (excluding domestic Australia tours) departing up to 31 October 2020. The suspension to 31 October 2020 applies only to international departures for guests from Australia and New Zealand. However, as a global business, we are also continuing to review, departures for guests with bookings that reside outside of Australia and New Zealand. This situation is totally out of our control and the COVID-19 pandemic is a force majeure event as defined within the Scenic Group terms and conditions. However, to support your future travel plans, Scenic Group will be providing a Future Travel Credit for affected departures. If you choose not to take up the option of the Future Travel Credit (FTC), you can opt to cancel your booking under our standard terms and conditions, and then consult with your travel insurance company to enquire if you can lodge a claim. Our flexible booking and cancellation policy for guests with bookings departing from 1 November to 31 December 2020: All guests with a booking to depart from 1 November 2020 and guests considering a booking after that date, have the option to transfer their booking to an alternate date without a Scenic Group fee up to 31 December 2021 (or 31 December 2022 for Scenic Eclipse), up to 30 days prior to departure. Scenic will waive all cancellation fees with the value of the booking applied as a Future Travel Credit and we will review the timing for the full payment when re-booking. Please note, if you choose to cancel or transfer there may be third party fees applicable, which will be at the guests own expense. This allows guests more time to make decisions about their future travel plans. This policy will apply to all brands within the Scenic Group: Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours, Scenic Eclipse, Emerald Cruises (including Emerald Waterways and Emerald Yacht Cruises) and Evergreen Cruises & Tours. Most governments have implemented strict travel restrictions and border controls that limit the arrival of people who have travelled, visited or transited through other countries, beyond those currently within the Scenic Group policy as outlined above. We will continue to monitor the changing global situation and remain committed to doing our best to assist with your concerns and adjusting travel plans. On behalf of the Scenic Group team, we are here to support you during this challenging time and we look forward to exploring our precious world with you again very soon.
  19. Eclipse departure out of San Antonio, Chile was delayed due to fueling not completed by scheduled departure time. Underway at 2200. The Coral Princess encountered the same issues and according to reports will sail on Monday 1500 hrs.
  20. It's the only way, really. We are in our 70's and one of us immunocomprised, so we need to be sure, before we cruise again, that we will not be on another Eclipse.
  21. So why have I posted this on the Celebrity board? Hurtigruten are not one of the big 3 cruise companies but with 16 ships they are NOT a small player either. The point is 14 of their ships will be back in service at the start of September. Visiting only home nations (depart Norway going round Norway / Depart UK going round UK) and almost exclusively for locals (called drive to passengers) It makes a lot of sense and results in automatic reduced capacity due to travel restrictions. It appears an ideal way to get started. It's getting to the point where Celebrity must be contemplation no restart until Spring 2021 but this would give them a start up option. I've said for some time that Apex will be the first ship back running a late summer season out of Southampton. My full restart guess!!!!!! Apex - Staying in Europe - starts FULL program in Spring 2021 - Does some of Silhouette Fall cruises out of Southampton starting late September Constellation - Cold layup in Med - Starts Europe program Spring 2021 - Or sold!! Infinity - Cold layup in Med - Starts Europe program Spring 2021 - Or sold!! 22. I haven’t cruised Celebrity in about 10 years. I have been looking at a cruise on the eclipse and have some questions. I have cruised with my elderly father. He uses a folding rollator. He gets around pretty good on it. He thinks he is running a race in airports and we have to remind him it is not a race. He uses because he has mobility issues. Inside the cabin he uses his cane to get around. He Parks the walker in the dinning room and uses his cane to walk to the table. When we have cruised with Holland America I have been able to order a shower stool for him. Are you able to Request a shower stool with Celebrity? I use a CPAP and am wondering the location of outlets in the cabin. Are you able to order an Extention cord to use on the ship? Are you able to buy distilled water on the ship? I take warafin and need to get my INR checked. I usually get it checked before leaving home. Every once in awhile the INR will go whacky before leaving on a trip and I need to have it checked out while on a cruise. Are there medical facilities on board that will do this for a fee. On Princess and Holland America I have been able to get it checked if I need too? I am looking at a 13 day cruise with adding a possible 8 day on for back to back for a total of 21 days. We usually do anytime dining on a cruise. How does anytime dining work on Celebrity? Thanks, appreciate any answers to my questions.
  23. As things currently stand, neither the Eclipse nor any other cruise ship is allowed to enter ports within the Australia/New Zealand bubble. I don't see that changing in the short term, but February is a slim possibility.
  24. Is there a Retreat Sundec on the Eclipse for Suite guests? I know the "revolution" has been postponed, but wonder if they have perhaps made some modifications. If so, where is the sundeck located? Thank you!
