If you have a personal or hobby CRUISE or TRAVEL BLOG, include the url here:

  1. I have Sovereign, Monarch, Majesty and Empress. All our other blocks are for for ships still in the fleet. Not interested in giving them up quite yet, but I suspect the time will soon come to downsize. I don't think all the blocks will make the cut. Maybe 1 or 2. M
  2. As we continue to navigate through this very fluid time together, it’s important that we connect on the latest news and updates. That’s why you’re among the first to learn that, sadly, Empress of the Seas® and Majesty of the Seas® will soon be leaving the Royal Caribbean fleet. Fan favorites for 30 years, Empress and Majesty of the Seas certainly made their mark on the cruise industry. Empress, launched in 1990, was the first ship specifically designed for short 3- and 4-night itineraries, with her first cruises visiting The Bahamas from Miami. And years later, she wasn’t finished making histo
  3. There are reports that Empress of the Seas has left UK en route to Malta where she will de store then head to Aliaga to be broken.
  4. Inspired by @twangster ’s totally amazing fake review I have decided to do a live review of our cruise alternative that includes an actual cruise to a popular cruise port, Victoria. We will be embarking BC Ferries pride and joy Coastal Celebration on Sunday. There is only one port of call on the itinerary, Victoria. Fortunately we will be overnighting at this port for three nights so we will have lots of opportunity to explore this familiar port and the surrounding areas in the North Island. First a little about the MV Coastal Celebration. She is 549 ft long so that
  5. Agree. Empress was first ship for me and my husband and sons as well, although I went on a cruise with my parents and younger brothers many years earlier. Our Empress cruise was to Bermuda and we were able to dock at both Hamilton and St. George's. Beautiful.
  6. The Nordic Empress (Empress of the Seas) was our first cruise which was a 4 day Bahamas itinerary. She looked so big to us and she got us hooked on cruising - it was so sad to see her leave the fleet. She was the perfect size to go to ports where the larger ladies won't fit. We ported in downtown Hamilton Bermuda overnight on another cruise -it was so beautiful and convenient too. We wanted to do the cruise from Montreal but that was cancelled. We have lots of Serenade cruises booked through 2023 - our favorite ship.
  7. Adventure OTS - Clo O'Connor July 6 for 2 months. Then who? Allure OTS - Jimmy Rhodes March 11 for 4 months, then Mitch Merucciis scheduled to return August 12 for 2 months. Anthem OTS - Dennis Charles May 12 until September 6, then Chris Brown starts September 6 for 4 months. Brilliance OTS - Mike Szwajkowski July 3 (for 2 or 4 months?) Empress OTS - WHO is the current CD? Enchantment OTS - Bobby Broughton April 6 until early-September. Then who? Explorer OTS - Topi Ylönen returns June 8 until July 27. Then who? (Graham Seymour may return as regular CD again for the rest of 2018,
  8. Explorer was our first Royal Caribbean cruise but, we feel like Anthem is our ship. We sail her every February for the Bahamas. Each time we stroll up the gangway and board on deck 5 we felt as if we've never left. She's a wonderful old friend. It's hard to pick favorite ships there have been so many terrific experiences. But, among my all-time favorites beyond Anthem are the QM2 and the Regal Princess with a special place for Beloved Empress of the Seas. Jonathan

  10. We too shifted to a Harmony GS next April but from a May Majesty rather Empress. Ken did the magic and I think I also owe Ellen a thank you for finding it. Thanks @molly361. Great deal.
  11. I'm sure you got an amazing price from back when empress sailings were selling cheap!
  12. We are on Odyssey 12/04 8 night. A L&S from Empress OS thanks to @molly361 @John&LaLa @Ourusualbeach
  13. I'm more about the days at sea then the ports anyways. I've sailed that section on the Empress of the Seas, straight from Norfolk to Bermuda, with pretty much beam seas the entire time. It wasn't that bad, but even the Empress of the Seas is longer, wider and heavier then the vessels I'm use to and I prefer to know I'm on a ship.
  14. This was how Windjammer was on our first cruise in 2002 on then Nordic Empress. Do you need reservations?
  15. I was scheduled on the Empress for a B3B in June of 2020. I was so looking forward to sailing on that ship, and we all know what happened to her. I am sorry to see the smaller ships go.
  16. We were first time cruisers and had been looking forward to our July 26, 2019, cruise for many months - and it did not disappoint. We had an amazing time. We loved the ship, the rooms, the staff and the activities. The scenery was stunning but note: we did NOT get close enough to see Dawes Glacier because there was too much ice, which was disappointing. Still the Endicott Arm is spectacular. We saw lots of whales from the ship and tons of bald eagles in Juneau. We heard a lot of experienced cruisers unhappy about the elevators, the crowds and "upselling" and the food. But overall we give the c
  17. We did Royal Up a few years ago on Empress of the Seas. It makes no difference what kind of cabin you're already booked in. However, you are more likely to earn the cabin you are bidding on if you bid the most. We earned the Owners Suite for that cruise and were very happy with it. The problem with guarantees is you have no idea where your cabin will be until shortly before you board or in some cases when you arrive at the cruise pier. You would be much better off choosing a cabin in a good location for your mom, preferably mid-ship where the movement of the ship won'
  18. Main Dining Room. Empress has/had a fabulous venue We were right above the Captains Table I mentioned earlier Caprese Salad is always great Coconut Shrimp Poblano Soup. This one just looks better And yet another version. W T F Teriyaki chicken wings. Shrimp Rissotto. Mmmmm Baby lobster tails. Prime Rib, nice and rare Apple purse pie is a big improvement over the slices they used to serve Traditiona
  19. Let's head up to the Jammer I will say I rarely take pictures since it's generally busy, but I do snap a few at the table Laura's chicken stir fry. Not very creative, pretty much just peppers and onions John's beef stir fry. Apparently I'm less creative. Typically I head to salad bar and find more things to add. And no rice for some reason. Strange Pizza anyone? No pizzeria on Empress 😢 Decent for WJ, though Grazing at the salad bar. Sometimes I just like to taste things since I eat and drink all day
  20. First up, Empress of the Seas, summer 2019 Honestly, this looks better than it tastes. Many folks think she had one of the nicest Chop's in the fleet. I would agree. Probably because it was the only game in town Berkshire Pork Belly Colossal Shrimp Cocktail This might be the mushroom soup. The oil slick on top is probably truffle oil. Not a fan Goat cheese salad is good, but I don't eat the goat cheese. Big fan of the craisins and apples MMMMMM, beef. Ribeye, I think.
  21. I'm actually looking at Chops pictures from Empress right now, and I don't see that we had mac n cheese. must did deeper
  22. Anyone looking for a job: American Queen Steamboat Co. is currently hiring more than 200 officers and crew members nationwide over the next 60 days. All teammates must be eligible for employment in the US and have received an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine by their vessels' restart dates. Available jobs are listed here. Two boats sailing, two to come The US-flag cruise line is relaunching American Empress in the Pacific Northwest on June 14 for a nearly sold-out season, and American Queen is expected to ret
  23. When you check for a price drop, do you compare your existing price to the same category on your current cruise or is it based on the price of the cruise from which it was lifted and shifted ? Most all of my L&S were from Empress so there aren’t any Empress prices to compare to. All of the Empress L&S prices are at least 50% less than the sailings that they shifted to...so I don’t think there’s any chance that I’ll have a price drop on anything unfortunately.
