  1. Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Lets hope this time next year we are full of Thanksgiving cruise reviews! I never cruised during Thanksgiving but did so during Christmas. My best memory was watching "A Christmas Story" on Christmas Eve in the atrium while eating popcorn aboard the brand new NCL Epic in December 2010. Cant believe its been 10 years already.
  2. Thanks for the great information and the pictures (as a picture is worth a thousand words). To tell you the truth, I'm surprised NCL didn't ensure that the Breakaway, Getaway, Escape & Epic all had their lifeboats tucked into the side of the hull like the other ships in their fleet, so that they could transit the Panama Canal as well. I'm also surprised that the newer, larger locks of the Panama Canal still can not accommodate the ships (Breakaway, Getaway, Escape & Epic) with the lifeboats located outboard, over hanging the side of the ship. Oh well, at least a
  3. It looks like yesterday Epic moved to Marseille from La Seyne-sur-Mer where it was docked for a while. Is it a sign that she is going to be refurbished according to the original schedule?
  4. Yes it is because of the lifeboats. Although Escape, Joy, Bliss, Encore all belong to the largest "Breakaway-Plus" class, but Escape is the odd one since her lifeboats still follow the old design on Breakaway and Getaway (overhang more outwards). Starting from Joy, the lifeboat positions are modified (hidden inside the hull) in order to fulfil the canal transit requirements. Below pictures are the comparison between Getaway (old design) and Joy (new design). To summarize which NCL ships can use the Panama Canal, from largest to smallest: Encore: Y Bl
  5. The lifeboat positions (and their large size) prevent some ships (Epic, Escape, and the Aways) from using the locks. The Bliss, Encore and Joy have their lifeboats tucked under the waterfront on deck 8, therefore these Mega-ships can transit the new locks.
  6. Among the larger ships, only Joy / Bliss / Encore can transit through the Panama Canal. They use the new locks. Breakaway / Getaway / Escape / Epic cannot have any Panama Cruises due to the limitation of their design. Even the new locks of Panama Canal cannot accommodate them. That's the reason why these 4 ships never go to West Coast and Alaska.
  7. In the beginning... Before the Getaway, Escape, or Bliss, there was the Breakaway. It was the first of a new class of ship for Norwegian Cruise Line. It went boldly, where no other NCL ship had before. On the first day, Kevin Sheehan said "Let them have a deck close to, and overlooking the water" and the Waterfront was born... A new innovative concept that would shape all of the new ships to follow. It was also the first NCL ship to feature Ocean Blue, by Geoffrey Zakarian, an all new dining concept at sea. The hull art was done by Peter Max, and featured the New York City skyline. In a way, t
  8. I am so frustrated this morning. Through the casino department I had a cruise booked in May 2020 on the Encore to Bermuda. This cruise was cancelled by NCL. I also had a cruise for January 24, 2021 on the Epic to Southern Caribbean with airfare paid. So when the cruise on the Encore was cancelled I called the casino department and asked if I could move my money that I paid in full to the Epic cruise. She said yes. She moved the money and since she was redoing the cruise she cancelled the airfare but gave me a room in the Haven. I also had FCC on my account as I got an additi
  9. One year ago today I got off the Getaway in New Orleans. It turned out to be my 2nd to last cruise, as I did manage to get on the Encore the last week of February this year. Had two more booked...Epic in the Med and Escape to Bermuda (see the pattern...all 3 ships started with E) but of course, those didn't happen. Right now I am not planning anything but hope to be on one of the first Leonardo class sailings in 2022...either a Med or maybe the TA. I am thankful for the times I did get to travel and will never take it for granted again!
  10. Hopefully cut off those ugly block of Haven staterooms up top & forward that make the Epic look like she has a "brain tumor". Just kidding, I know there are a lot of Epic fans on here. Please don't flame me; Btw - if you'll notice my profile pic, it is of the Epic so I must not be too anti-Epic, eh?

  12. O Sheenan's isn't just about the food its the ambience. I ate at the bar on the Epic (didnt drink that cruise) and often people from the ship would stop by and eat or have some drinks.
  13. When I simulate a booking for a balcony on the Bliss it appears that all beds are close to the door as opposed to the balcony. Is this true for 100% of the cabins? I hated this on the Epic. Also, are there any oceanview cabins with seating (besides the bed!) Thank you in advance.
  14. We tend to ask the butler to bring a pitcher of OJ on the first day, so that day 2 we'll make our own mimosas with the free sparkling wine they give you. We've only sailed Haven twice so far, and it was a night and day experience from the first Haven cruise to the 2nd. Not so great on the Jade, simply amazing on the Epic. If all goes well with Covid we'll be on the Bliss in April for the tie breaker experience. Seeing what I've read so far from the rest of you who've sailed the Bliss in Haven, my guess is that we'll be hooked going forward - at least on those classes of ships that
  15. I've attended more than a dozen performance of Priscilla onboard Epic, and truly enjoyed each one (though some casts were more talented than others), and I'm going to predict that there will not be a future performance of that show again on that ship (in the history of ever). BT: I definitely remember that as well, yet with the stateroom TV, interactive info/booking screens in public areas, signs and verbal instructions at the box office, announcements by Cruise Director, signs outside/inside Epic Theatre, and a pre-show announcement . . . there would be still be someone
  16. I've booked a large balcony room (12165) on Epic for summer 2021. Looking for opinions of the large balcony mid-ship rooms.
  17. Epic haven sept 2021. we paid £3797.00 new offer £4502.00 Approx £705.00 more. What a rip off😳
  18. Never thought I’d win on these stinkin little older machines My last NCL cruise on Epic something in my head told me I was due for a bonus and to pick a random machine. So I did. ☺️
  19. Hello NCL Cruisers... So after 4 cancelled cruises, I am giving up and planning a ways out now. Looking at some transatlantics on the Epic in the Haven. I was in the Haven for my first cruise on the Joy and LOVED it. I really value my space in the stateroom. On the Joy, I have a forwarding facing suite...loved having a living space and then bedroom space. The table for breakfast, etc... When I look at the Epic, the suites are oddly shaped (HF-The Haven Courtyard Penthouse with Balcony). Round bed in the middle of the room, bathroom appears to be open.
  20. 2023 summer and fall (April - November) itineraries of most ships are already available now on NCL website. Below is the summary. A special note for Bliss. She will go to France (Marseille) to enter drydock in late April. So she will have a eastbound transatlantic in April, and a westbound transatlantic in May. She will not stay in Europe for any roundtrip cruises. EUROPE - Getaway (homeport in Copenhagen, mainly 9-night Baltic) - Breakaway (homeport in Civitavecchia, 9-/10-/11-night Greek Isles) - Epic (homeport in Barceona, 7-night Western Mediterranean
  21. Only two of us on deck 12. We have sailed in the Haven a couple of times and it was incredible. We will be in the Epic Haven on B2B March 2022. Really looking forward to that.
  22. Hi All, Have booked the first Epic sailing out of Barcelona April 25th 2021 all going well it goes ahead, the ship arrives after a transatlantic so i am wondering what happens.Long waits, crazy port etc. I have sailed out Barcelona 3 times on the Epic so i am familiar with the process but think things will be different after a TA This time we have only 3 nights booked and sailing in the Haven so should board smoothly but i am just wondering will things be rather hectic and should we avoid early arrival. Usually we like to head to port early and start our vacation early
  23. We've booked the Haven 2br suite on the Epic for a long 11 day southern Caribbean cruise and it was great. One bedroom for our luggage (although there was plenty of space otherwise everywhere else) and the 2nd bathroom is a joy to have. I'll never understand why men need 30 mins to poop....
  24. Just a quick note to say that on the TA in April 2022 both the Spa balcony cabins and the spa mini suites are showing as sold out because they have been recategorised without the spa access. We have just booked 14098 which used to be an M9 and is now an MA. Guess I'll have to buy a spa pass instead
  25. This is the schedule that I received from crew members several months ago. I found it to be useful and keep until today. Most of the dates / ports being mentioned are proved to be accurate (or just within +/- 1 week). Hence it is expected that Epic will finish the drydock work on around 23rd Nov, and Gem on around 20th Nov. Next it will be Star to enter drydock in December.
