  1. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. The nice weather continues with only a 20% chance of rain and a high of 66F/19C and a low of 49F/9C. Sunrise is at 3:52 am and sunset at 10:09 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  2. Hi there, we're just booking our first HAL cruise, an R/T Vancouver to Hawaii at the end of September and the category we're looking at is on deck 8. Directly above the stateroom is the Lido pool. My assumption is that it should be fine as we're not likely to have too many young kids but our other cruises have always had us on a deck that has cabins above and below. Has anyone had experience with cabins on deck 8 under the pool? Any advice is appreciated!
  3. Making their regular Monday visit to Juneau are the Signature Sisters. Both are due in at 1300 with NA leaving the CT dock at 2200 and Eurodam leaving the AS dock at 2300. "Himself" will be on NA. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215, Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200, and Azamara Quest tendering from 1330-2300. Another yucky day in Juneau with a 100% chance of rain. The predicted high is 57F/14C and the low 49F/9C. Sunrise is at 3:51 am and sunset at 10:07 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  4. What non-alcoholic beer is served on Eurodam / HAL? Although I still occasionally drink wine and liquor, I have switched to non-alcoholic beer. My fave is Clausthaler, with Beck's coming in second. http://www.clausthaler.com/ I have tricked my beer-loving friends into thinking Clausthaler is a craft beer. It's perfect when I "feel like a beer" or when I want something different than water, tea, coffee. Here in Texas you can find it at Specs and Total Wine (I always call first) and more rarely, some HEB grocery stores. I would guess that I could bring on my own non-alcoholic beer since... Via goog, on a 3'rd party web site about what beverages are allowed to be brought on board HAL >> Bottled Water and soda is also allowed (no limit) as long as you carry it on board with you on embarkation day. I tried to find answer to this on Know Before You Go PDF, but only saw the info about how 1 bottle of wine is OK then more at $18 per bottle. So much to read and learn as a first-time HAL cruiser!
  5. we have booked the Eurodam to Alaska the end of July. We cruise all the time (mid 40's couple)... but we like to hang out by the pool, have cocktails, listen to music while soaking up the sun.. Now that we have booked this Alaska cruise, I'm 2nd guessing and think I may get bored during sea days, etc... What is there to do during the day for people who normally like to party by the pool and soak up the sun? T.I.A.
  6. Hi all, Sailing on Eurodam for Alaskan cruise in August. Is there a way I can see what wines are offered by the bottle (and price). I adore Meomi Pinot Noir and typically like to have a glass or two with dinner. I was going to bring a couple of bottles and pay corkage but if the wine is already offered on the ship the price might be about the same as purchasing on my own and bringing . I am also planning on bringing a bottle of Rose for the cabin and understand that if consumed in the cabin one does not pay corkage fee. Thanks for any assist!
  7. We are looking at the partially obstructed cabins on deck 4 near the midship elevators. We have never considered this location before so any help will be appreciated. What is the noise level like in these cabins? We were thinking of a large inside but I recently learned that I really don't like not being able to see outside. Thanks Marcia
  8. I just put a hold on a Eurodam June 15 cruise. We’ve cruised witH HAL several times (never aboard the Eurodam however). Never cruised with celebrity. How would these two different ships compare? I need to make up my mind soon. Thank you.
  9. With an unusual visit to Juneau, Maasdam gives us three HAL ships to watch. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300. Maasdam will be tendering from 1400-2300. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. We are back to typical weather in Juneau with a 90% chance of rain (1/4 inch predicted) and a high of only 56F/13C and a low of 52F/11C. Sunrise is at 3:53 am and sunset at 10:02 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  10. Hello, I have a few questions for the partial view stateroom experts please: -I have googled a few reviews of these rooms and it looks like you stare out at ugly lifeboat/tender equipment, I'm assuming there is some type of view though? -Will tender prep wake us at some ungodly hour? -Any problem with noise from the shops below? -I noticed several rooms mid-ship are for crew, and I thought I saw the cruise director coming out of one once while waiting for an elevator; any noise issues since crew come/go at all hours? -I don't get the floor to ceiling window concept, is it for people to be able to see above/below and around the lifeboats? Did you like/dislike it? -Would you consider them to be a good value? What you book these rooms again? Or steer clear? -Anything else important to pass along. Thank you so much, happy Father's Day and happy sailing! (Forgive me if this has already been discussed, I have trouble searching for older threads since they revamped this site, so feel free to link). Many of the reviews were 10 years old too, so some info is no longer relevant, ie. the tv's are all different now I believe.
  11. We are looking at booking the Eurodam for a September, 2020 Alaskan cruise and Panama Canal cruise. We have cruised on Princess and Royal Caribbean with the kids. What can you tell me about the Eurodam? How does it compare to Princess? We were looking at a deck 6 Verandah balcony cabin. What is the best deck to be on? Thanks!
  12. This starts my Eurodam live thread where I will be collecting menus (hopefully for 7-day Alaska season, too), gathering crew information, answering any CC HAL questions, and giving my impressions of the ship. This Pacific Coastal cruise was scheduled to stop in Victoria BC where I could at last complete my photographs of Butchart Gardens. Two days ago all passengers received an email announcing that the ship asipods had become entangeled in unmarked fishing nets and would have to postpone the stop in Victoria as well as delaying departure until the following day sos that repairs can be made. As a result, every passenger will receive a refund of port fees for Victoria as well as $50 refundable OBC. The ship is planning a sail away party for our noon Tuesday departure. As reported in another thread, the Eurodam is arriving Sunday evening in San Diego rather than at 7:00 AM on Monday so that repairs can be started early. Hopefully, with departing passengers in port early, we new passengers can board at 11:30 AM. The good news is that our Tamarind Bar Meet & Greet now coincides with noon departure on Tuesday, so 46 of my fellow roll call members will have both a great view as we sail away and our own private bar. Last night, I received an email upgrading me to a Neptune Suite (first-ever free upgrade in all of my cruising years). I have urged my fellow roll call members, many first-time cruisers, to use this thread to give their impressions as we spend four days of relaxation aboard the Eurodam. Weather forecast for four days is temp in the 60's, two-foot waves for every day, and lots of sun. There is a possiblity of a quick shower in Vancouver a we disembark. This will be my first time aboard the Eurodam so I will be comparing it to both the Nieuw Amsterdam and my last cruise on the Konigsdam. Hopefully, this thread will be informational for those on subsequent Eurodam cruises.
  13. Just read the latest review from the Eurodam in May that reports some sort of Mechanical Problem and shaking. I've quoted it below. I then went back and read some reviews in April and they are complaining about something similar as well. There is no new dry dock scheduled to fix anything. Can this problem have any effects on the Eurodam's Alaska Cruises this summer? Anyone have any recent experience? "first my one and really only complaint was the ship felt funny in the way it was vibrating, I did read that there was a problem and it had to stay in San Diego for a extra day or two.but it was like someone was shaking the bed every 5 seconds it was pretty consistent for the first 3 days, then when in Glacier bay it stopped and then returned when we went to Sitka i guess the speed of the ship was the reason."
  14. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. There is a 50% chance of rain with the forecast for occasional showers. High will be 58F/14C and the low 47F/8C. Sunrise is at 3:59 am and sunset at 9:54 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  15. Does anyone know if the Naturalist and Enrichment lectures on the Eurodam in Alaska are recorded and available to replay on a loop or on-demand in your cabin? I think some of these lectures are at 7AM when I expect to be sound alseep! The lectures sound really interesting.
  16. I am looking at 8041 8045 and 8037 on the navigation deck. I can't tell from the posted pictures, is it easy to watch television from bed ? It is a strange question but that is how I fall asleep at night. Thanks Marcia
  17. Have spotted a few 2 tops in the Eurodam MDR on layout map that seem like would be ideal place for DH and I to sit if they are available. Does anybody have any particular 2 tops that they recommend?
  18. Sailing on the Eurodam to Alaska in May 2020. Any tips, tricks, or must do's? Thanks in advance!
  19. We just booked our cruise to Alaska on HAL with a travel agent. On the way home I wondered why it was $700 more then what I figured online. I didnt really look at the room code until I got home and noticed she booked a Neptune suite. We did tell her we wanted a Signature suite. Do you think the Neptune suite is worth it?
  20. The Signature Sisters will be spending Memorial Day in Juneau. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at the CT dock from 1300-2200 and Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. Here's a forecast that you don't hear for Juneau very often -- "mostly sunny". The high will be 71F/22C (!) and the low 51F/10C. Sunrise is at 4:10 am and sunset at 9:39 pm. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  21. This is my first cruise on Holland America, June 22-June 29, 2019, . I am so excited as I have never traveled to Alaska. We are traveling on the Eurodam. Our Room is Cabin # 4185 on the Upper Promenade Deck. I reserved this room because our co-cruisers had already reserved Cabin # 4180. As I am researching the deck plans of ms Eurodam, Holland America, I now see that our cabins are directly over a dinning area. Has anyone personally traveled in any of these rooms on the Upper Promenade deck and been bothered by early morning or late night noise from the dinning area. I am a little anxious now about our trip as I am not one to stay up real late nor get up with the sun in the mornings.
  22. Can’t remember. Does the Eurodam have binoculars in all OV cabins in Alaska? Thanks.
  23. Is there a Naturalist on Board in Alaska on the Eurodam for the entire cruise? Or do we just pick up a Park Ranger for the day in Glacier Bay? Also, are there any educational lectures about Alaska wildlife or culture during a 7 day cruise? We're round tripping out of Seattle. Thanks in advance! PS: Since we LOVE whales... any tips about spotting whales? We'll have a balcony... can we throw some shrimp off the balcony to attract them?!?????????????????.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................totally totally kidding with that last question.... just wanted to make sure y'all were paying attention, LOL .... we would never interfere with wildlife OR throw anything off a balcony or deck (except a life preserver in an emergency, of course! ) 😜
  24. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. Although clouds are predicted and there is a 20% chance of rain the high temperature is going to be a whopping 69F/21C. Low will be 48F/9C. Sunrise is at 4:22 am and sunset at 9:26 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  25. Welcome to the new Alaska season! As usual, we can expect HAL ships in Juneau on Monday-Friday except for a couple of Sunday arrivals of Maasdam before she leaves for the far east and then Australia. Here is a map of the docks in Juneau. The best location for our viewing is the AS (Alaska Steamship) dock because that is closest to the PTZtv webcam which is located in the Hangar on the Wharf Restaurant. In most cases we tend to watch the sail-in rather than the sail-out because of the times when the ships usually leave (except for night owls like me or those of you on the west coast). Also, keep in mind that the ships often show up on the webcam much earlier than the time they are scheduled in port. For our first HAL sighting we will have the Signature Sisters - Nieuw Amsterdam and Eurodam. Both will be in port from 1300-2200. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at the CT dock and Eurodam at the AS dock. Also in port is Norwegian Joy at the AJ dock from 1430-2300. Unfortunately, the visitors are not going to have the nicest of days. The forecast is for periods of rain (90% chance) with a high of 47F/8C and a low of 43F/6C. Sunrise is at 4:53 am and sunset at 8:56pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. There are also various webcams of the Juneau area here. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday. Question for those with PTZ premium. Are you able to get any of the webcams? I get a message about joining although it already shows me logged in. I tried logging out and then logging back in but still no webcams.
