  3. Given you are from Canada, Trip Insurance Store will probably not be able to help you. Are you on the Holland America Eurodam? This is the only 11 day Panama Canal cruise I can find in October. If so, you MIGHT want to consider HALs Platinum plan. You can purchase it up until final payment, there is no pre-existing conditions clause, and you can cancel for any reason up until your scheduled departure and receive a 90% refund in cash. If all you care about is cancelation, this is a great choice. But, HAL's emergency medical coverage is just about the worst in the cruise industry. Unlike most cruise line plans, the positive is it does not exclude pre-existing conditions. But, coverage is limited to only $10K. With your "serious health issue", I would not consider the HAL plan unless you have other suitable medical coverage. If the HAL plan does not work for you, I can't help with plans available to Canadians. By the way, if you are on a different cruise line, none of the other cruise line plans work the way I described. But most, if not all of them can be purchased up until final payment. They all allow you to cancel for a covered reason (doctor statements required) and receive a 100% cash refund. Some of them have higher medical limits, but they will exclude pre-existing conditions. I would not recommend any of them either unless you have other medical coverage. Good luck, and let us know what you end up doing.
  4. My next cruise is also Eurodam, splurged on Signature Suite since DH will be with me. We're doing the 10-day 11/30/22. To the OP - your not exactly semi-live report has been wonderful - very enjoyable! Thanks to you and the other person onboard for sharing your cruise on this forum! Sue
  5. Zuiderdam will be at the Franklin Street dock from 1pm to 10pm. Also in port are Seabourn Odyssey at the CT dock (5am-9pm), Disney Wonder at the AJ dock (6am-5pm), and Quantum of the Seas at the AS dock (1pm-8pm). People in Juneau on Friday will not have to worry about the horrendous heat that is causing many of us to suffer. The high is predicted to be 57F/14C and the low 51F/10C. Unfortunately, the rain chance is 100% with a half inch expected. Sunrise is at 4:29am and sunset at 9:38 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Eurodam and Koningsdam on Monday, 25 July.
  6. Thanks. I won't lie, I've been watching way too much YouTube, and the older ships (even the Eurodam) don't look as nice, stylish, or fun as the Koningsdam, Rotterdam, and the Nieuw Statendam do. So I've been hesitant to book an Alaska cruise out of Seattle for that reason - signed, another Gen-Xer with two spoiled teen daughters.

  8. We will be on the Statendam in September....our first time on this class of ship. The Dutch Cafe looks amazing...can't wait to try it!! We were previously on the Zaandam and Eurodam, I think they had some kind of coffee shop perhaps it was the Explorations cafe which looks like it is also on Statendam. What does it serve on the Statendam since they also have the Dutch Cafe?
  9. We were on the Eurodam last week and found the drink service in the MDR to be quick and efficient. That’s said, the service at most of the other bars was slow, even when they were not crowded. The exception being the Pinnacle lounge.
  10. Today is National Ice Cream Soda Day, National Hot Dog Day, and National Lollipop Day A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. 11. On Eurodam last week none of the TV channels were working when we checked and the only one they got in the Neptune lounge was Fox. Not sure if this was the whole week or just an anomaly but we ended up being quite busy and only turned on the TV to check the map and the bow cam. OMG the first time I saw this I was so baffled by why they had so much advertising for their own programs. It does get very old very quickly. And I don't get why they do that because I think all the other news channels have regular commercials. It sure does make you aware of how much commercial time there actually is in a normal program.
  12. Seems I’m talking mostly to myself, and @Cruise Suzy, but I’m seeing the hearts, so I know someone is reading. While I’m thinking about it, I wanted to report on the room service. I was a bit concerned because when we were on the eurodam, we could not get MDR dinner. It’s been no problem here. We call at 4:45 most nights. Sometimes the person taking the order has to fumble for the menu. But then they tell us it’ll be 6:15 or so. Which would be fine. And it shows up at 5:30. Then they call at about 6:30 to make sure we got it and it was good. We love this! And the tray they bring fits perfectly on the oval coffee table (which, if you don’t know, lifts up to table height). When we are done, we put the tray outside (at the request of our room steward, we specific asked him what to do when we are done. And discussed trays in the hall and scooters. But this was what he wanted). Then we move the table over next to the couch. It fits perfectly there and frees up floor space.
  13. Good choice. I was recently on a Princess cruise and there was no forward viewing area and no wraparound prom. The Eurodam has both. Have a great cruise!
  14. sorry. Every line that sails to Glacier Bay (only a few) have some sailings that go to GB and some that go to other glaciers. These include Princess, Holland and Norweigen. I've basically decided on Holland for this cruise. I'm pretty boring. A nice place to relax with a view or a book is my primary goal. The Princess looked great too, but the Holland was a better value for the same time. Though if I were to take the Westerdam the day after the 7 day itinerary with the ONLY difference being Glacier Bay is a $400+ pp difference. I guess GB is a premium. We have decided to go with a GB itinerary. Eurodam, July 1st 2023. Verandah.
  15. Icy strait point was an ok stop last night. I really did not take many pictures and the only thing we had planned was for my mom and daughter to ride the ZipRider. We has dinner from the MDR served in the suite and we're off the ship by 6:30. We walked over to the cannery and bought some souvenirs. My son also got a couple dozen mini donuts, butterscotch and raspberry I believe. He has been talking about those donuts since he found out we were visiting ISP again and he was a happy camper. After the cannery we walked back toward the ship and got on the transporter to take us over to wilderness landing where my mom and daughter checked in to the ziprider. I decided not to spend the $50 to take the skyrider up the mountain with them since it was really cloudy/foggy. (I did find out the skyrider is free for crew and thought that was nice ) The ZipRider took forever! They were ticketed for 8:30pm and even though the actual ride down only takes about 75seconds they didn't get done until 9:27pm. All aboard was supposed to be 9:30pm, but there were at least 2 more groups from the Eurodam behind them. They said once they got to the top they said there were signs posted stating it could be 30-60mins after your ticketed time before your turn. Outside of the wait they both very much enjoyed the zipline and would do it again. We got back to the ship right at 930 and the computer system went down for checking people in and we had to wait 5-7 mins for them to get it going again. The crew said it has been happening every night at 930 for the last week or so... I went to the casino last night, but they did not open the craps table at all which made me very sad. I played a little bit of roulette and slots for a bit then called it a night. My daughter tried to sit at billboard again last night but gave up pretty quickly. Her words were "it was like listening to bad karaoke."
  16. Last night, I got back to the ship at 6pm. Grabbed a plate from the lido (an okra curry-type thing. I love okra!). I crawled into bed at 7pm. And I didn’t leave it again until 7 this morning. My Apple Watch says we did 7 miles yesterday. And my body feels it today. When I got up, my first thought was “wow, I don’t have to wait for coffee and food!” While I’m on the subject, the iced coffee caramel cream is superb. And HAL does such a good job with my usual cruise breakfast- eggs Florentine and chocolate croissants. Today, I grabbed a little smoked salmon to top the eggs. Mmmmmmm Yesterday, we didn’t Dive In just before we docked. We ordered on the app right when it opened. Food took about 20 minutes to come up, but was still plenty of time to get done before docking. Needless to say, everyone was crowded in the Lido 11:30-12:30 for a 1pm port. Which brings me to about the only thing I don’t like about HAL - the food operating times not taking port times into account, and the windows where nothing is available (8-10:30pm, before 7am). We once had a late night return from an excursions in San Juan, and I think the pizza place (Eurodam) was the only thing open. The wait was, unsurprisingly, and hour. It seems that could shift things a bit on the Lido for late ports. I had been concerned last night, but then friend ended up having an evening thing, so I’m glad he dropped us when he did. Both for food and for exhaustion. Today is rainy. Full on, can’t really be on outside decks rain. But we are offshore right now, hopefully we will sail out of it when we turn inside land. Visibility is far enough that we aren’t running the fog horn. But low enough that I wonder about those reports of being 2 miles off Hubbard. I think @Cruise Suzy is doing the small boat thing. So she should get a good view.
  17. Enjoyed your Review and will be doing a Sail with Seth early September. We also took Covid home with us when we were on Eurodam at the end of May. Hope your symptoms are mild and feel better!

  19. Disembarkation was extremely smooth, one of the best we have ever had. If you rented a wheelchair they had you return it to them in the Pinnacle Bar which was right next to the gangway and also the meeting point for assistance off of the ship. Overall this was a fabulous cruise. Entertainment was typical HAL. Unfortunately the BBK group got Covid so they performed the first two and last three nights only with shorter sets and fewer members most times. The Orange Party was done with the Dancing to the Hits mix and the cruise staff hosting. Not at all a typical HAL Orange Party, but they did a good job to keep everyone entertained. I still do not like the Step One Dance Company and have had far too much of the BBC Earth documentaries to last me a life time. Losing the live entertainment several nights definitely put a damper on things (though the Billboard Onboard group was available 2 of the 3 nights BB Kings took off). If this was a less port intensive cruise it probably would have been a bigger issue, but at least two of the evenings are late port calls. Lots of night life on this trip. Quite a few teens & twenty somethings onboard and the Dancing to the Hits was popular and lots up past midnight every night at one of the bars. The one thing I don't understand - you have BB Kings playing Dancing to the Hits. But you close the BB Kings bar early and make everyone go to Billboard Onboard & the Gallery Bar to get drinks when there is absolutely nothing happening in the Billboard location late at night, and the Casino was closed several nights when in port. Service was excellent across the board. Crew really made an effort to learn your name throughout the ship. I also found that having the HIA printed on your key card made a big difference. We had zero issues with them charging drinks separately to each card. Also, they seem to have dropped some of the restrictions on how many drinks you can get at once. We got 1 alcoholic and 1 nonalcoholic each at the same time routinely and had no issue. Also got 2 or 3 sodas from one bar and then walked to another to get 3 more and had no issue either. During last call they rang in and made 2 alcoholic drinks for everyone who was staying up and we didn't have an issue with getting charged for that either. So they really seem to have cleaned up the accounting on this (at least for Eurodam).
  20. Good morning everyone! I would love raspberry cake, never played Words with Friends or Wordle (but do crosswords on my phone), and love all the new friends I have here on the Daily. We were in Saguenay in September 2010 on the Eurodam. It was lovely to see the welcome we received at the pier: We visited the old Pulp Mill - very interesting to visit: After that, we went to Ha-Ha Park, lots of interesting sculptures: We really enjoyed the day there! Hope everyone will have a good day. Prayers and cheers for all our Daily friends. Stay safe! Laura

  22. We were on the sailing just previous to yours and also had our first night’s meal in the Pinnacle Grill. We were extremely underwhelmed. From the microwaved onions rings atop our overcooked and grisly ribeye steak all the way to our watery Caesar salad which they really shouldn’t call a Caesar salad because what they dressed it with was more an extremely watered down ranch, at best. The lobster bisque was nearly tasteless. We had this same meal in January aboard the Zuiderdam on a 14 night Panama Canal cruise and everything was excellent. Our meals continued to be equally underwhelming in the Main Dining Room later in our cruise. Tamarind saved the cruise from being a complete dining wash out. Whoever is currently the Executive Chef aboard the Eurodam is not doing their job very well. I’ll be curious how you find the rest of the dining aboard.
  23. My experience on during a partial transit on the Eurodam in January, 2020 was using the old canal. During part of the transit, the new canal can be seen. It helps when there is one of the huge container ships is transiting.
  24. We spent 24 days in that cabin on the Eurodam last fall. We loved the cabin and it was our first-ever Neptune Suite. The balcony was well-used! Here are a few photos.
  25. We stayed in 6164 on the Eurodam's sister ship the Neuw Amsterdam on an Alaska cruise last month. We have stayed in one other Neptune Suite and the aft-wraps are somewhat smaller than the "regular" Neptune Suites. It is, of course, a long hike to the Neptune Lounge but we seldom used it even when it was close by. Sitting in a windowless room with a TV going doesn't appeal to us, although the concierges in the NL are wonderful. They do everything from fixing billing problems to making reservations for you, without standing in long lines or sitting on Hold for 20 minutes. The balcony more than makes up for the slightly smaller cabin. While underway, the portion of the balcony on the port side of the ship was quite windy, but the large aft-facing portion was calm. I got quite a sunburn sitting there, and this was in Alaska in June. We noticed no unusual ship movement back there, but one night there was vibration all night. It is very convenient for getting to the Lido buffet, but a ships-length away from the main dining room. I posted quite a few cabin pictures on cruisedeckplans.com. Hope that helps.
