What CDC Grading System Does & Doesn’t Mean For Cruise Ships

The CDC has been updating their site several times a week now - Allure and Explorer are now green. -
we found out from reading on cruise critic that our nov 21' sailing on the explorer our of miami was changed to the radiance with a completely different itinerary. We then checked our portfolio on the rccl website and sure enough we are now on the radiance. New cabin has been assigned on the same deck and category on the new ship....We still have not been notified of the change by rccl...I talked with my TA and told her about the change and how upset we were with loosing the abc's and changing to the ports that the radiance will visit and she advised my that rccl said they have no problem in s

I should clarify I did (almost immediately when it was announced) get two emails (B2B) for the change to Explorer....but nothing since. Luckily I don't think going from Freedom to Explorer there will be many cancellations and category worries, but for your parents going from Explorer to Radiance....that would also have me worried....especially with the lack of certain category cabins. Best of luck to them.

On the the open decks, which side of the Explorer of the Seas can you smoke?

Hi - we have a group of 3 couples booked on a Feb 2021 cruise on Explorer. We have been told that the balconies can be opened to become one "long' balcony. Looking for confirmation that they can, indeed, be opened - OR if you know they cannot. Cabins are on deck 10 aft, but not the very back of the ship.

RCI Playing Games? Bait and switch?

Is cruise with confidence still an option? i have an 8 night cruise in May. They know they aren’t going to be sailing. My final payment is due February 21st. I looked into lift & shift, that won’t work for us. I don’t want to cruise on the explorer. I heard it really needs upgrades. So that is out. That seems to be our only option. Already have an fcc applied to the cruise in May. Have another cruise in August. 7 night. I’m hoping things will be better. I have a deposit on that one. Also, have one booked for October. Paid the taxes on that one and am s -
not as bad of a shaft going from Freedom to Explorer but i would be appalled going from Explorer to Radiance, that is a definite downgrade, not to mention not knowing the cabin you will get or the itinerary before the cancellation deadline. this change would be a definite give me my money back situation. will be the same with my Freedom to Explorer B2b if they cant confirm the cabins before cancellation deadline. worst business decision ever, unless they were looking for a way to reduce capacity without actually kicking people off

What CDC Grading System Does & Doesn’t Mean For Cruise Ships
Biker19 replied to Oxo's topic in Royal Caribbean International
The CDC has upped the frequency of updates (twice a week now) to its web site for cruise ships: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/crew-disembarkations-commercial-travel.html Allure and Explorer have been added - I assume that's a good sign. -
Balcony question on Explorer of the Seas
Merion_Mom replied to jcb91777's topic in Royal Caribbean International
As was explained above, by @Hoopster95, Voyager, Explorer and Adventure have balconies which are part of the superstructure and Mariner & Navigator have balconies that are appended to the outside of the superstructure. And many people like to "do their ocean-gazing" while seated or reclining. -

This was from 2016 and I can't find any info on the cabin number. I do see from the other photos that it was a junior suite. We almost always choose deck eight or nine on Explorer but cannot confirm the location of this one. -

Here is a photo of Explorer of the Seas. It looks like there are not any glass balconies. - click on this link for a large photo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explorer_of_the_Seas#/media/File:Explorer_of_the_Seas,_Fremantle,_2015_(03).JPG EDIT: I zoomed in really close and even though it looks like the balconies are enclosed in the hull, the center of each balcony has a railing and glass. -

I think they hope that the CDC guidelines will be lessened soon (I am on a 9 day for October 2021 on Explorer of the Seas...hoping it will happen if the CDC relaxes there rules on no 7+ day cruises until November of next year), but I truly believe that they are using a case like yours to help cash flows. I know they are desperate, but this kind of stuff makes me mad, too. Sorry this is happening to you! -
Deployment 2021-22 booking season begins

So this will change my booked March 2022 B2B on Freedom to Explorer out of San Juan. Any idea when this will post so I can make sure I can choose a comparable cabin? Also has Explorer been updated if so perhaps this isn't going to be a concern over Freedom vs Explorer. -
Does anyone have any information about the redo of Explorer? I know it was put off from this May and we have a cruise scheduled for 2/12/21. If not do we have an option to switch our cruise to another ship?

Hi Cruisers! Received this in an email from Royal Caribbean today: "We invite you to share a scenic sunset in Alaska this evening — from the comfort of your home. Virtually transport yourself to the aft of Explorer of the Seas® and watch with us as the sun dips below the mountaintops of The Last Frontier. Just visit the Royal Caribbean® Facebook page at 7:45 p.m. EST tonight." Don't miss it! ** May 22 Note: This video became available on May 20 and remains on the Facebook page to view whenever you'd like.

Nope our March 2021 B2B Western Caribbean cruise was on the Rhapsody leaving out of Tampa. Yesterday afternoon I looked at a few L&S options for a B2B cruise for March 2022. Wasn't impressed with the itineraries due to changes for the March 2022 Western Caribbean out of Tampa. So I looked at San Juan departures for a March 2022 for a B2B cruise. Great itineraries as we've done them before. I then called RC to see if I could do a L&S out of San Juan instead of Florida for March 2022. Yes. Right on! I then called the TA we are using and gave her all the details to turn in my request fo

And I've sailed ships other than Independence - I've also been on Jewel, Enchantment, Explorer, Serenade, Oasis, Allure, Harmony, Symphony and Anthem. It's an issue with Anthem and not an issue with "not Independence" - I'd be quite happy if we had a Voyager, another Freedom or an Oasis in the area. Ah well, Allure looks to be Barcelona bound at least. -
Royal Cancellations thru Feb 2021
RFerrington replied to benebire's topic in Royal Caribbean International
They tried to do the same thing to me. I had a 7 night comped JS on Symphony and they said they could move it to a couple of different 4-5 night cruises on smaller ships. Then said I could do a 7 night Explorer out of SJ but they would not price protect. It would have been a comped balcony. No thanks. Just cancelled and took the refund.
