  1. We are going on a Med cruise this summer. The docking time is 5 am. When do they let people off the ship? If we take our own luggage how long does the process take? We will be arranging transportation to get us to the Rome train station so want to have an idea of what time to book the private car. Thanks!
  2. Upon boarding, where's a nice place to go to get a drink and watch the human masses as they get acclimated to the ship (preferably outside to enjoy the tropical weather)? j (both around the crowds, or an out of the way place to chill) Additional tips for places to stake out during the cruise ... such as the solarium pool or one of the lounges in the atrium ... where do people go to chill while crowd watching? TIA
  3. I’m looking to take family of 4 on a 5 day cruise either in Nov or Dec. originally was planning to do 7 to get on Symphony however decided on 5 and stay down at South Beach for 3 days... Looking for insight in this ship. Understand it is an older ship however I believe it is getting an overhaul this year. We like newer looking rooms. dies anyone know if they are remodeling rooms or just the exterior type of things? lastly, would you recommend? Looking at cabin on aft (8690, 7388 type of rooms...) kids are 4 and 8. forgot to add, my parents are going as well so we will be getting a connecting cabin. thanks
  4. Booking on explorer of the seas for Feb. 2021 and thinking of booking a balcony cabin on deck 11 forward (new cabins added in amplification). Can anyone tell me if the very forward facing balcony cabins have an obstructions? I see there is a "peekaboo" area in the before deck plans.... not sure if this will affect the view for the new cabins added there. Other choice would be deck 11 forward on the port side... opinions on which would be better? Thanks
  5. Does Izumi still have hot rock cooking on the Explorer of the Seas? -Tim-
  6. When I do a search for this sailing, it does not show up on any websites. I’m assuming this means it is completely sold out. Or would there be another reason for this? Thanks!
  7. Saw the post about CruiseSat coming to various ships but I'm on the Explorer next month the Saturday night of the big Penn State-Ohio State showdown. Is that going to be shown on board ship? If so will it be somewhere that is smoke free? What's your experience with college fb on RCI?
  8. I was looking at the deck plans on Explorer for the Jr. Suites. Does anyone know how the cabin layout changes depending on if there's a connecting stateroom or not?
  9. Hi everyone, I am planning European cruise with family next summer (seniors and 2 kids ages 8 and 10) and trying to decide between the ships - Allure, Anthem or newly refurbished Explorer. Ports are secondary for us, we are familiar with most of them and will enjoy any of them. But want to choose the ship that would be most fun. Criteria's were: - must have waverider (I believe all 3 do?) - must have great food (is one better then other?) - which has the best kids club? - any of them have water slides? - which has the most fun activities for active family Thank you for any comments!
  10. Does the Crown & Kettle Pub on Explorer of the Seas serve any food, and if so is there a fee for it? If so, can you provide a link to the menu? Considering whether to get the Unlimited Dining, and as I'm not a big sushi fan, it seems we'd be bouncing between Chops & Giovanni's, with maybe a lunch or two at Johnny Rockets (where I understand we'd still need to pay for any milkshakes). I'm concerned we might get bored eating at the same places over 9 days (and 5 sea days), so I'm trying to determine if there are any other places where the $35 a la carte dining credit might apply.
  11. How can I find out which pier Explorer will dock at when she arrives in Miami on Tuesday?
  12. We're in a JS on the Explorer and we're looking at maybe bidding up... do we need to get a coffee maker? Some posts here make it seem there is a coffee maker and a tea kettle but other material we've seen doesn't include it. Would appreciate the definitive word. Yes to a coffee maker and kettle?
  13. Hi! I am booking a Mediterranean cruise for the family and Explorer of the Seas seems to be the only one on the itinerary we wanted. Family of 5 with 2 adults and 3 school aged children. My travel agent told me that the Ultra Spacious Ocean View room (265 sq. ft.) at the very front of the explorer can hold all 5. Two questions: 1. Have any of you had experience with these rooms? Would it be enough space for 5? Should I add an inside cabin just for the extra bathroom? 2. My son is prone to motion sickness, so we always do midship. Will the very front be too rocky or noisy during sailing? I heard the Mediterranean is usually calm in summer, but I've never been. Thanks! Jenny
  14. I saw some reviews before I went that the ship was looking worn and tired. That was not my experience at all - everything was fine. Cabin was clean and comfortable and generally the ship seemed in decent condition - can't expect a new ship/new refurb all the time. Food was generally ok. Had one inedible main course in the MDR but that can happen. Service first night was very slow but after that fine. Very disappointed in the Formal nights. At least half didn't bother first formal night - and there were guests in the MDR in t shirt and tracksuit bottoms. We didn't bother dressing up for the 2nd formal night (although still proper dress) and a lot of others seemed to follow suit. If people don't want to participate, there are plenty of other parts of the ship they can go to. It's a shame there was no enforcement at all. My mother had some service issues. Her suitcase was put on arrival in a different corridor from where her cabin was causing some panic. Guest services just said (at 6pm) to wait until 8pm and then ask again. I found it by wandering around her deck. Also, her Cabin was not turned down the first night and twice her breakfast never arrived. These may not seem big things, but when you are 83 it does cause some upset. Casino was very good (and very busy every night) and the staff helpful. One passenger won a £13k Grand jackpot on one of the slots. I earned a Certificate for a free future cruise. Sadly the options for the cruises are quite limited - all US based, with 10 of them from dates already passed. I probably will only therefore be able to use the trade in value.
  15. Does the Explorer have separate USB ports in cabins? Related question, I know you are not allowed to bring extension cords on the ship. Are you allowed to bring the multi-outlet/usb hub units that plug directly into the outlet without a cord? I know they can't be surge protected. And would any of them even fit though? It seems like the outlets are in kind of a tight space.
  16. We made a reservation for the zip line in Haiti, taking advantage of OBC and Cyber Monday pricing. Our time is 8 a.m. According to the itinerary, we dock at Labadee at 7 a.m. Will this be a problem? Since we made the reservation thru the Cruise Planner, will we be accommodated if there's some reason the ship doesn't dock on time and we can't disembark in time?
  17. Heading out on Explorer in January and wondering if anyone can tell me what, if any, broadway show they might be performing in the theatre? Appreciate your input!
  18. Hello, I am so happy to say that we will be returning to Royal Caribbean in January! We were Carnival-Turned-MSC cruisers, but found a good deal on a 9 night cruise on the Explorer of the Seas to all new ports that we could not turn down. However, by the time we board the ship, it will be nearly 4 years since my last RCI cruise (which was on the Empress of the Seas, which obviously does not reflect the grandeur of the Royal ships), and 8 years since my first RCI cruise, a Hurricane Sandy cruise on the Enchantment of the Seas. For the other two people in my party, it will be their first RCI cruises. Either way, I am very excited to not only make it back to RCI, but to give them a fair try and see if they can win me over in 2020. I just booked this cruise and I have some questions, so I'm grateful for any help whatsoever! 1) We are booked in a Panoramic Oceanview Stateroom (very excited!), which is above the gym and next to the Vitality Spa. Will there be a lot of hallway traffic specifically for the Spa, or is the spa entrance by the elevators/stairs? Will there be noticeable noise from the gym and/or spa? Obviously, the gym will be closed at night, but will a morning yoga or spin class wake us up? 2) We will have a 19 year old with us, a college freshman. When he was younger, he loved going to the teen clubs and making friends, but now that he's over 18, he's struggling to make friends on cruises. Does Royal do anything for the 18-20 age group since they can't drink? Or will he just have to hope for a lonely straggler his age at night and just strike up a conversation? 3) Does Royal have any special restaurants included in the price of the cruise? Carnival has Guys Burgers, Blue Iguana Cantina, etc, does Royal have a similar concept? Or are all the specialty dining options for an upcharge? 4) Are there any "secret decks" or special areas to note on the Explorer like Carnival has on many of their ships? We are trying to get the local tips before we sail so we can try to blend in 😉 5) Since we take vacations the same week each year, we typically board a ship with that week off and try to use the specials onboard for booking a future cruise. What will the onboard special be for booking onboard? If we like RCI/want to give it another chance, we may want to just book onboard. 6) What are the drink options in the Windjammer without the drink package? 7) What are the lunch options on embarkation day besides Windjammer? And when will our stateroom be available? Can you carry suitcases onboard, or will you need to leave them with the porters? We will be embarking from Port Miami. I can also assume that embarkation will begin around 11AM? 8 ) What machines/appliances are in the gym/spas? Are there saunas and steam rooms for regular passengers? Does it usually get crowded? 9) Any excursion or day trip recommendations for Labadee, Aruba, Bonaire, and/or Curacao? All of them will be new ports for us, so any tips would be greatly appreciated! 10) Any general RCI tips/notable differences between MSC and Carnival? We really want to like RCI, and I'm hoping now that we're trying one of their new ships, we will have a great experience that propels us to book with them again in the future, so any general tips on how to maximize either the Explorer specifically and/or a Royal cruise in general would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you in advance so so SO much to anyone that can help, happy cruising!
  19. Hi there! We are sailing on the Explorer of the Seas in February and I am debating whether to add the internet package or not. We have unlimited service with Verizon and utilize their TravelPass when traveling to other countries. I am wondering, however, if it will work on the ship as well? We have t sailed in a few years so I cannot remember. Any advice is really appreciated! Thanks!
  20. Just got off Allure of th Seas Diamond drinks were available during happy hours at any bar, lounge, or main dining room. is it the same on Explorer of the Seas? Also there was a complimentary latte/cappachino machine on Allure. Is there one in Explorer?
  21. 1) Any tips and tricks for 2 adults on Explorer? 2) We loved the solarium on the bigger ships - how is the adult pool on Explorer? 3) Where are some good quiet locations to hang out? For example, on Majesty we enjoyed the deck chairs behind the movie screen for people watching. 4) How are the live music venues? We love listening to live music but not dancing! We are hoping to catch some jazz in Dizzy’s. 5) What’s your favorite bar?
  22. We are on Explorer in Feb 2020 and was wondering if we need to get tickets to the evening shows each night or just go, find a seat and enjoy the show? Also we are signed up for My Time dining because early ding was not available so do we need to make a reservation each night to dine or can we go the first night and get a table and request that table again for the remainder of the cruise??
  23. I'm not picky about the food as long as I can dine outside. Are there any spaces with dining tables set up outside on Explorer?
  24. Does anyone know if the muster stations are inside or outside? We have station D25 and the plaque on the back door makes it look like it's outside.outsiders
  25. A group of 3 couples are making plans for our next cruise together, and we are hoping to know if the balconies on Vision of the Seas (or Explorer OTS, or Empress OTS) can be opened up between cabins that are side-by-side? We'd love to be able to have one big balcony, and I've heard that some people have been able to do that. So far, it has not been physically even possible on the ships we've cruised. Look forward to hearing from any of you who know about this possibility. Thanks!
