  1. Hi everyone. We are loyal Princess cruisers (6 cruises) but are going to give carnival a try in August of 2020 for a 8 day cruise since Princess is not doing caribbean cruises in august that year. We have narrowed it down to either the Magic or Horizon. We are upper 40's and our kids will be 17 and 13 at the time of the cruise. The Magic stops at bonaire, aruba, turks and caicos and half moon cay. Horizon stops at bonaire, aruba, and curacau. We have been to aruba, bonaire, and curacau before and it was our favorite cruise with princess. Any help deciding would be appreciated. I will have many more questions over the coming months since we dont know alot about how carnival does things compared to princess. Thanks for your help.
  2. We will be going on the Horizon on 11/2/2019 Found a great deal on a local tour for my family of eight but it may be a time crunch depending on debarkation. Debarkation in Aruba starts at 8:00 a.m. The tour leaves at 9:00 a.m. and is located about 15 min by taxi from the port. I was hoping someone who has sailed on the Horizon could advise me on how long it took to get off the ship in Aruba? This being such a new and large ship I have concerns over if we'd be able to make our tour on time. Thanks!
  3. We are going on an 8 night Southern Caribbean cruise on the Horizon on July 27. Does anyone know when elegant nights are? Our youngest is turning 14 on the third night of our cruise. I thought it would be pretty cool if this coincided with the elegant night.
  4. Just wondering if anyone has had the Premier cruise on the Horizon? What did you get in your room & was it fun?
  5. i asked this in the wrong forum first lmao. yeah so going on the carnival horizon soon and i heard club o2 has gaming systems in it. does anyone know if there is a ps4?
  6. Have a question for those who have cruised Horizon and possibly Vista....Two yrs ago our family/friend group went on our first cruise on the Vista. Our husbands loved it and agreed to another one....along comes the horizon which looks just like the vista so we booked it. The one difference for us is that the pig and anchor is where the red frog used to be. From the pictures the space seems very similar however I understand it is now a "pay" restaurant. Is that just in the evening? On the Vista this is where our men hung out on the boat. There were always groups of people planning board games, there was a foosball table, corn hole, live music in the evening...etc. Can you still hang out here or is it strictly a pay restaurant? Obviously they can find another place on the ship but they tend to be creatures of habit. None of them do any research and I would guess that the first place they go on embarkation day is to where they are expecting the red frog and "rum jumpers", ....I don't have the heart to tell them that their beloved corn hole boards are now on the sports square with no bar in sight.
  7. Is there a specific formal night on the Horizon? We are booked on the March 9th sailing and were trying to decide when to go to the steakhouse. Thanks.
  8. We have been on over 30 cruises including on Carnival, Princess, RCL, NCL, Viking and Celebrity. We are considering the Horizon for next winter’s cruise. It has ports that we haven’t visited in a few years and some of our traveling friends have never visited. We are partial to Celebrity’s no smoking policy- makes going to the casino more pleasant. Is smoking allowed in the Horizon casino? Also, any input on pros and cons from former Horizon cruisers would be appreciated!
  9. Both have Southern Caribbean itinerary. The Magic sails from FLL, the Horizon from Miami. Magic ports are HMC, Grand Turk, Curaco, and Aruba. The Horizon sails to Grand Turk, La Romania, Curaco. and Aruba. Looking at Dec. 2019. Please help me decide! The prices are similar.
  10. Sailing on our first of the mega ships in 3 months - the Horizon. Quick questions on the specialty dining (sushi, Asian, Italian, BBQ, etc). please (first time for us). 1. Do you need to make reservations for these restaurants or is it first come? 2. If you make reservations, is it advisable/or can you make them early in the cruise to assure a place? If so, where do you make them at? 3. I believe I have seen there is an "upcharge" for these restaurants, is this so? 4. Is it like the steakhouse where you if you do pay, it is a set price and then you order, or is it like a regular restaurant where you pay for each item you wish to order? Any examples of such cost appreciated - I am familiar with the Seafood Shack and Pay Sushi on other ships such as the Conquest. 5. Do any of these locations on the Horizon have a special dress code (excluding the steakhouse, I am aware of the dress code here)? 6. Is the Bonsi Sushi the only place to get sushi on board? I love it but husband hates it, and would like to be able to get it (like on other ships), where you just order and take away since he is not going to want to sit down to a "meal" with me in a restaurant setting. - BBQ place too, eat in only or take away? Hubby doesn't care much for that either lol, but I love me some good BBQ. Any help is appreciated, even after all our cruises this will be a new experience we are much looking forward to it. PS: Know it is not food related, but want to try the sky bikes too. Do you reserve this? If so in advance or what - if anyone reading these questions about the food knows.
  11. How often is Bingo played? What does it cost and are the prizes good?
  12. Trying to navigate the deck plans and having some trouble. What cove balcony have you loved on the Horizon? On the Dream, Breeze and Magic we have always been able to get the one in between the life boats with mostly quiet overhead!
  13. I have a few questions. Thanks in advance. 1. Which restaurants are open for lunch on the day we get on the ship? 2. Someone stated that the live shows were cancelled due to an accident. Are they performing again?
  14. Can anyone let me know how the check in is for the Your Time Dining on the Horizon? I just watched a video for the decks and he showed where you check in but it looked like it was on a computer - to a person? please let me know how it works? Thanks
  15. Hi.....has anyone stayed in the Havana cabana balcony cabins on Deck 5? What did you think? worth the extra money? Are they noisy....can you hear the band in the bar? thanks
  16. Hi there!! Looking for a little input/advice/thoughts from those of you who have sailed on Magic and.or Horizon. I am planning my 40th Birthday cruise, Ill be cruising with my mom and 4 year old daughter. The two sailings I am look at are for 5/2/2020, Magic is doing an 8 day So. Caribbean to Curacao, Aruba, Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. Horizon has an 8 day So. Caribbean with stops to Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire. HELP!! Which ship would you book with?? What are your pros and cons with the Magic v Horizon??? I've only ever sailed on fantasy class ships like 5,000 years ago and have no experience sailing on the Dream or Vista class ships, though, I am booked on the Panorama for 2/2020 and booked an aft extended balcony in the Harbor Family area. Thank you!!
  17. Hello all, I need some help. We are going on Carnival Horizon in a month. This is our 6th Carnival cruise and it's really important for us to have our 6 p.m. dinner time, same table, same wait staff. We booked our cruise 9 months ahead, couldn't confirm early dining and no option for a wait list. We've always gotten our dining arrangements done before we get on the ship so this one is a bit different. Does Horizon's dining work differently than the other ships? I know we can go to the dining area to make arrangements when we board but is there anything else I can do in advance? Thank you!
  18. I checked in this morning (along with lots of people on our roll call group) and the earliest was 12:30. Why so much later than other cruises? Does it just take longer to get all the passengers disembarked?! I do have Faster To The Fun so plan to arrive between 10:30-11:00 like usual and hope to board sooner. I may end up waiting to check in but that's ok. (We're usually onboard before noon so not even checking in until later is new to us!)
  19. I saw someone had posted on FB there were not any shows on the Horizon? Because a cast member passed away at the end of December? Has anyone else heard about this? If they are not doing shows in the evening, what entertainment has been offered? Will there be shows for our sailing this Saturday? That all being said, I'm not worried about the shows - I'm sure we will keep ourselves entertained! Just curious (and I'm sure my husband would say nosy! ) If this is accurate, I hope the friends and family of the crew member are doing okay.
  20. I am really toying with booking a Havana cabin on the Horizon for the April 26, 2020 sailing to the Western Caribbean. Question is .... are they worth the additional money? It will only be my husband and I traveling (52 and 57. I know that during the day it is adults only, but do they offer enough loungers to accommodate everyone? Any insight is appreciated! Kim
  21. Hi. Just curious what the earliest check-in time normally is for the Horizon out of Miami? I know we definitely didn’t get the earliest check-in time, but we got 12:30 which I am hoping is fairly good. I can’t seem to snag FTTF. Thanks!
  22. I've never sailed the newer Vista-class ships, but I've noticed on other CCL ships the hot tubs are just luke-warm. I'm wondering if perhaps the Havana area hot tubs are actually hot? Has anyone noticed this? Thanks.
  23. What type of foods do they have on the buffet in the lounge? How many cabins can use this area? Anyone that has stayed in this location would you recommend it? Looking at a deluxe oceanview.
  24. Horizon 1/26 to 2/1 8 day cruise. I don’t normally do reviews, but I felt I had a lot of information this time that may be helpful to other people. Being an engineer, this review my end up being a little less about my opinions and more about the design issues. This cruise was with my DW and mother in-law. We had booked a balcony cabin on deck 6. Less than 2 days before the cruise the up-sell fairy called and offered us an upgrade to a family harbor suite for $600, which we accepted. My wife and I are both platinum and close to diamond so this is not our first Carnival cruise. It is our first Vista class ship. First off, the good news: The service, food and entertainment were excellent. Some of the best we have had. Having the family harbor suite was nice. The extra ½ bath came in handy and the lounge is very nice to have. I do wish they had food earlier and later than they offer it. JiJi – excellent food, well worth the extra change Cucina de Capitano – food was good, but we were disappointed that hey did not sing as they normally do. This is always one of our favorite restaurants on the ship. Bonsai Teppanyaki – very good, way too much food. Make sure you are hungry. The up charge may seem high but includes any entry including filet and lobster tail. Guys pig & anchor BBQ – One night we did not like what was on the dinner menu so we did this on a whim. I am glad we did. The food is very good, live entertainment, craft beer. A nice alternative if you find yourself in a similar situation. Their sampler platter “the whole smoker” says it feeds 2 but it will easily feed 3 or 4 people. Now the not so good news: This may be our only trip on a Vista class ship. Some how the Carnival ship designers decided that when you add more cabins and a lot more people, you should then make all the public spaces smaller. Yes, I said smaller. The Alchemy bar, piano bar, show lounge, spa, lobby. You name it, it is smaller. Why? We have been on fantasy class ships, we have been on the Sunshine, we have been on just about every other class of ship Carnival has and this is the first time I really felt crowded. It seems like everywhere we went there were crowds. The only thing not crowded was the high end shops they added. Now before you go off thinking I am a hater, the truth is I am more of a Carnival cheerleader. But this ship design makes no sense to me. I truly think this class of ship was designed by accountants to maximize the front end take (shop leases, cabins). They probably assume that if a person wants a drink a the Alchemy bar they will still buy one even if they are waiting 3 people deep most of the night. Ok, off my soapbox. The one other thing I will mention is the noise from the galley above our deck 2 family suite was noticeable. It was enough to wake you up, but was not constant. It is something to consider if that kind of stuff bothers you.
  25. So there's the free Dive in series, right? What's the deal with the Imax and isn't there one other type of movie on board? What's the cost?
