  1. Can anyone tell me if the Horizon sells non-alcoholic beer? I’ve called Carnival and they cannot tell me. Thank you!
  2. We sailed on the Horizon May 18 2019 - 8 day Southern Caribbean .This was our 6th Carnival cruise. Our daughter chose it for her college graduation trip. 🙂 We stopped in Grand Turk, La Ramona Dominican Republic, Curacao, and Aruba. We had abundant sunshine the entire trip. It rained a little on sail away night and again late afternoon the last day. We flew in from Kansas City to Ft Lauderdale. A college friend of my husband's is great to pick us up and take us to the port the next day. We went to the Margarittaville on the beach and ate at Land Shark. Good food and they were having live entertainment. We had a Havana Cabana and loved it. We usually have two cabins (one for us and one for our kids) but our son got married last fall so didn't go with us this time. I took a few extra organization things for the cabin and we did ok with 3 people. I wouldn't do it all the time, but it is definitely doable. I took cheap plastic baskets to hold things on the shelves by the vanity in the room and a clear mesh hanging shoe organizer for all kinds of things - meds, hair stuff, lint roller, etc. We really liked the Havana area. No one under the age of 12 can stay in that section. One wristband for each person in the cabin is issued (in an envelope on the vanity when we entered our room). We could access the pool by the walkway outside our cabana. There is a sign by the door to the pool from the Havana bar that says no one past that point without a wristband. There was always an available chair. The pool was not overcrowded. We saw the same people over & over and had great conversations. The bar staff (Ronno, Jose, etc) were great as were the lifeguards. We had excellent service and they knew us by name. The area was busy but not uncomfortably so. After 7:00 pm that area is open to everyone. We had Faster To The Fun, as we usually do. We arrived at the Miami port at 11:00. Dropped off our bags, checked in, and waiting in 18 minutes. Debarkation was taking longer than normal but we were still onboard around noonish. We get FTTF so we can board early. That's our first day of vacation so we want to spend it on the ship and not sitting around a hotel waiting to check out. Want to make the most of every minute ! With FTTF, we can go directly to our cabin & drop off any carry on stuff. Our luggage is usually already there and we can quickly unpack anytime. Three of our six bags were there . The other three didn't arrive until after 8:00 pm. We dress up a bit every night for dinner and ended up going to eat in our regular clothes. It was fine, but I was irritated. The non FTTF family at our table had their luggage early. This is the second time we had the priority luggage issue. Not a deal breaker, but it is a service I paid for. I also like the priority line at guest services. The few times I needed to stop there, a long line waited on the other side. We had assigned 6:00 pm dinner in the Reflections dining room. We sat a table of 9. Shout out to Katleyn & Joe's families. Coincidentally, we were all on the same facebook group. It was fun hearing what each other had done in each port or around the ship. Great tablemates! We had prepurchased the Bubbles for my daughter & I. (I am an avid Pepsi drinker :)). No cheers for us. I like a good pina colada or margaritta by the pool but no way we'd drink 15 a day each. We paid for alcohol as we went. I also booked and paid for a couple of spa services when they were having the sale. More on that later ~
  3. Was supposed to be in Fort Lauderdale last night, but our Jet Blue flights out of Worcester- ORH were significantly delayed. At check in, it was reported to us that there was no guarantee the flight would not be canceled with zero other flights to grab out of that airport. So Jet Blue paid for all six of us to get to Boston via Lyft where we paid for two rooms at the Hilton. They said they will reimburse us for all expenses incurred from last night- which will be good because the Hampton North in Fort Lauderdale would not waive the room fees due to lack of 24 hours notice. I won’t even begin to list the number of things that have gone wrong in the final days and weeks of this trip (not necessarily related to the trip itself). We so need a physical and emotional reprieve. And will not ever book a family vacation again without insurance. Ever! Our flight out of Boston at 6:45 is on time (knock on wood). We were planning on buying wine and soda last night at the plaza near the Hampton. Now it looks like we’ll be building a stop into an UBER for wine. I’ve read that we should plan to tip our driver WELL for this. I do tip generously as it is, but what would be considered a good tip for a quick stop for wine? And any recommendations on where to stop? Also, I prefer a red- is it too hot to drink a red on deck at night? Wide awake in Boston 🥴
  4. Anyone stayed in a Cove balcony on Horizon? Any reason not to book one? Will the wait for elevators from deck 2 drive this impatient person crazy?
  5. Probably a dumb question, but if I purchase the Premium Wifi on the Horizon, can I connect through my laptop? or does it have to be hand held device? Also how is the speed from your cabin, we are in a spa cabin deck 12. Thanks
  6. I will start this off with...yes this is my first post but I have been watching these boards for years for recommendations and ideas for our cruises. I have 14 Royal Caribbean cruises sailed this is our first Carnival so my review will be based on my experience and opinion 🤷‍♀️. We drove to Miami from Charlotte, NC and parked in the deck. Easy in and fairly easy out 176$ for the 8 day cruise. Our cruise was the 8 day grand Turk, Dominican Republic, Curacao and Aruba route. Check in was very easy. We have no priority or past sailings so.....it was less than 30 minutes. Our first impress was very clean, nice but small entryway. That theme was one of the things we missed in comparison...the royal promenade is a huge open space. We felt like everything was down windy hallways. We had deluxe ocean view rooms on floor 1 with the tub which was an amazingly sized room. Great storage! Loved the deep window where I kept all my towel animals for the week. Our room steward was great he kept us in ice and got me a robe...we are pretty low maintenance. We preordered excursions and cases of water/soda packages. Did not like the soda coming from cans, at times it was flat and always warm. We prefer Royals freestyle coke machines and the reusable cups. That being said the bartenders were attentive and we didn’t wait long for the drinks. Main dining room food was just Ok not great not bad just ok. Buffet was bad very repetitive and very few options...this from a nurse who eats in a hospital cafeteria.... Now where carnival is Amazing is the Guys burgers, Mexican, pizza and the sandwich shop. Loved them all! Grand Turk we did the beach walked past the free chairs and paid 5$ per chair including the umbrella and it was perfect. La Romana we did the Dune buggies had a blast...got into the mud puddles!! Felt safe. Curacao we swam with the turtles it was nice but too much time on the death bus(yes thought we were gonna die). Aruba we went to palm beach and rented jet skis and tube rides. Did we have a good time...Yes of course it was vacation but...the pools on carnival are ridiculously too small, casino was horribly Smokey (we still spent a lot of time there). Didn’t get to get on the slides waited till the last day and someone’s small child pooped in the water🤷‍♀️. At the end of the day we had a great family vacation. We chose this ship for the itinerary and will prob return to Royal as the ship is just as important as the itinerary. Oh almost forget the Fun staff was amazing...they get the nod over Royal hands down!
  7. Anyone know what terminal the Horizon will be at tomorrow? My wife and I were curious so we selected the correct parking garage. Thanks in advance
  8. Alright I’m officially addicted 😂. Just got off the Conquest yesterday and already convinced my family to look into cruises for March/April next year. My question is out of these two ships which one should I look into actually booking more? I’m leaving out if Miami port and having already sailed the Conquest I want to try a different ship. Only other ship I’ve been on is the Dream. All opinions welcome! Thanks!
  9. We just got off this morning (June 23) and found some things in our corner Havana cabin that probably belong to last week’s guests. If that’s you, please contact Carnival. We turned them in to Guest Services this morning.
  10. We will be going on the Horizon on 11/2/2019 Found a great deal on a local tour for my family of eight but it may be a time crunch depending on debarkation. Debarkation in Aruba starts at 8:00 a.m. The tour leaves at 9:00 a.m. and is located about 15 min by taxi from the port. I was hoping someone who has sailed on the Horizon could advise me on how long it took to get off the ship in Aruba? This being such a new and large ship I have concerns over if we'd be able to make our tour on time. Thanks!
  11. I know a lot of people like to look at Fun Times before sailing, so I thought I'd share mine from my recent spring break cruise on the Horizon. I hope the upload works...😎 Carnival Horizon 03-31-19 Fun Times.pdf
  12. I read a lot about how scarce the lounge chairs are on Horizon but what about near Waterworks? Our son spends all of his time on the slides so I am wondering on sea days how early do we need to get on deck to get two loungers close to waterworks? Please don't let it turn into a discussion about reserving chairs and leaving for hours. I know that's a problem and I'm not the type to do that. If I want a chair I plan to be sitting in it.
  13. Hi; We'll be sailing on the Horizon in Aug - Do they sell souvenir ship models in the ship stores? On our past cruise (Conquest), we're able to buy one and the lady who sold it to us was very nice - She advised us that we could get it autographed by the ship captain in the casino (apparently, the captain has a meet and greet on one of the nights?) Thanks,
  14. I am considering booking the Southern Caribbean on the Fascination the week of Christmas. I've been on this itinerary before, but it was on the Liberty. I loved the Liberty. I've also been on the Fantasy to the Bahamas from South Carolina, which was my least favorite cruise. The Fantasy just seemed dirty and more cheesy to me, and the crowd seemed different too. When I did the Southern Caribbean in the past, I was a solo traveler. This time I will be bringing my boyfriend with me, who has never taken a cruise before. I was ready to book it, and then the lady on the phone at Carnival told me that I may not like the Fascination because it's an older ship. She sent me a lot of cruises on the newer ships, and told me to consider those. They are, of course, more expensive. I also like the islands on the Southern Caribbean, and that I can pair a couple days in Puerto Rico beforehand. So, thoughts on the Fascination? I'm mainly interested in the food, serenity area for adults (loved the quiet cabanas on the Liberty), and entertainment. He's really into comedy, and I'm really into beach music and dancing. I liked the outdoor dance parties that the Liberty had at night. The other ship that I'm looking at is the Horizon, but it's around $500 more expensive per person. It also leaves from Miami, which is maybe a bit cheaper on flights but less exciting to pair with a land trip. All new islands for me, but I'm not sure I'd like them better than the Southern Caribbean ones. The ones on the Southern Caribbean were the prettiest that I've seen. Way better than the Bahamas and Mexico. Thanks in advance!!
  15. Has anyone stayed in room 2353? I'm looking for reviews on noise, view (obstructed, lifeboat above) overall experience with room etc. Pics and videos would be awesome.
  16. We're off our Horizon cruise for just under a week and wanted to take the time to give a brief review. Overall we loved the ship and had a fantastic time. It was packed and we knew that going into the cruise as it was Spring Break/Easter week but that didn't impact our experience more than a little bit. It was my husband and I (26 CCL cruises) and our 13yo son. We booked an interior cabin, Deck 10. Having the third bed as a pullman v. a trundle made a big difference in the comfort of our room for us. We don't spend much time in the room so interior is usually fine for us but not having the extra bed take up floor space was a big plus for us. The location was great for us as we could hit the Lido deck with ease and we never heard any noise from the public areas of the ship at all. Service overall was excellent. We did notice that the drink servers were virtually none existent on the decks other than in the main Lido area mid ship. We had assigned early dining and had a great wait staff serving us. The assistant maitre'd took note that I had ordered the Indian Vegetarian entree the first two nights and stopped by our table near the end of our second dinner. She asked if I was vegan/vegetarian and when I said that I wasn't and that I just loved Indian cuisine she offered to get me a non-vegetarian Indian entree each night if I would like from the crew dining room. Sure enough, each night I was able to get both the vegetarian and non-vegetarian offering if I wanted. She stopped by our table each night to check on us. She explained that this is an option on every CCL ship as long as the guest requests. With all of our cruises and all of my research this is something I never knew!
  17. I will start by saying that we don't get to cruise a lot. This was my wives 3rd and my 2nd. We are both in our late 40's and are relatively active and healthy people. Anything I write here is purely my own observation and feeling. I will not intentionally try to upset anyone or insult anyone. As far as photos go, I will see if I can get them to upload, I shoot with a Nikon D300 with an assortment of lenses and I also use an Olympus Tough TG-5 point and shoot that comes in handy under water. We chose the Horizon for this vacation for a few reasons, it fit into out time schedule, we have never been to these ports before, and it was supposed to be a big new ship that offered everything you could want. Vacation Day 1 (March 😎 We had an early flight (7:40 AM) from Toronto to Miami. We spent the previous night at The Crowne Plaza Airport in Toronto. It's about 2 hours from our home and they transfer you to and from the airport and you can leave your car in a secured parking lot while you are gone. The airport was very busy as it was the first day of our spring break and everyone is trying to escape the cold even if its just for a short while. We got checked in and went to our gate. The flight was a little rough due to turbulence but we got into Miami a little early. We had booked one night in Miami at the Red Roof Plus+ Miami Airport. It was an inexpensive place we found online that would pick us up at the airport and take us to the cruise port the next morning. We arrived there a little early and our room wasn't ready yet so we just sat in the lobby for about 20 minutes until they were ready for us. The staff was very nice, the room was clean, and basically all we were doing there was sleeping and having breakfast. The 8th was my birthday so my wife wanted to take me to the Miami Heat game vs the Cavs. We got in a taxi when we were ready to go downtown and we were there in about 20 minutes. American Airlines Arena is beautiful. We walked up to the ticket window and were able to get 2 lower bowl tickets 20 rows off the floor for $102 a piece. This is about a third of the price we pay in Toronto for a Raptors game so it was a nice surprise. We had a few hours to look around downtown Miami and get something to eat before the game. A lady that worked at the arena told us about a place called Bayside so we headed there. Bayside was very nice. There were a number of restaurants and stores, so we wandered around for an hour or so and took in the sights. There was a father and son in one of the open areas with a number of parrots and for a small fee ($15) they would pose you with them and take your pictures with them. Then we went to The Bubba Gump Shrimp Company for dinner. We don't have this restaurant in Canada. It was a great atmosphere with energetic young servers and the food was quite good. I had a really good gumbo for a starter, an assortment of fried shrimp with fries for a main and a desert sampler to finish things off. After dinner we were off to the Heat Game. It was a good game ( the Heat won), good atmosphere, good crowd. We had a great time. After the game we got a cab back to our hotel and crashed for the night after a very long day. Tomorrow we get on the Horizon.
  18. Is it worth it? And what exactly does it include?
  19. Anyone one stay in cabin 10298? Booking it and was try to see a review or some info on that cabin. Like privacy, noise level, etc. Thanks
  20. Hi there!! Looking for a little input/advice/thoughts from those of you who have sailed on Magic and.or Horizon. I am planning my 40th Birthday cruise, Ill be cruising with my mom and 4 year old daughter. The two sailings I am look at are for 5/2/2020, Magic is doing an 8 day So. Caribbean to Curacao, Aruba, Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. Horizon has an 8 day So. Caribbean with stops to Curacao, Aruba and Bonaire. HELP!! Which ship would you book with?? What are your pros and cons with the Magic v Horizon??? I've only ever sailed on fantasy class ships like 5,000 years ago and have no experience sailing on the Dream or Vista class ships, though, I am booked on the Panorama for 2/2020 and booked an aft extended balcony in the Harbor Family area. Thank you!!
  21. The last few days I've been scouring the internet for all things Carnival as I am in the midst of planning our honeymoon. I was pretty sold on Carnival Breeze but Carnival Horizon is longer with an extra stop. I'd love to hear everyone's input on either ship or any of the stops listed. Carnival Breeze (6 days) Out of Fort Lauderdale November 1 2020 Nassau, Amber Cove and Grand Turk Cloud 9 Spa Balcony OR Carnival Horizon (8 days) Out of Miami October 31 2020 Aruba Curacao La Romana Amber Cove Cloud 9 Spa Oceanview
  22. Hi, My Aunt is looking to cruise with me and my husband in fall of next year. I booked an inside Havana room, but she wants a balcony. She can only afford the extended balconies off the back of the ship. Privacy is important to her so she wanted to book the 9th floor. Rooms 9466 and 9468 are available, but she read reviews where people said that the Lido deck above is loud from chairs scraping (apparently crew move them overnight or early AM) and its also by the stairs which have a door and people let the door slam. Has anyone stayed in these room and can either confirm or deny the amount of noise? Would anyone recommend floor 8 instead to compromise between privacy and noise level? The problem is with the lower back balconies is that the balconies on the floor above look onto yours due to the slant on the ship. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  23. We were on the Vista last May and stayed in 7459 Aft Wrap. Going on the Horizon next ( Loved the Southern Cruise ABC) and booked again 7459. I see 6469 Aft Wrap is available on the Horizon and was thinking of switching. Anybody stayed in both and which was your preference? Thank you!
  24. Does anyone have any recent fun times for the 6 day itinerary? Also, what are the must do's? Deck parties, shows, games, food and liquor tastings ect? Leaving on Sunday and don't want to miss anything good!
