  1. I've been on the Splendor twice. I loved the spa. We went up to soak in the thalo spa every night and relax on the loungers. All of the aches and pains of the day went away and we slept well. Now the Panorama is coming to our coast, will I be disappointed? I see the thalo spa is in the room with the loungers, I'm thinking it's not going to be quiet and relaxing in there. Opinions?
  2. I'm baaaaaaaaack 🙂 ((Not from my cruise. I got back from my cruise months ago. But I'm back on CC! Hi friends!!!!!)) If we haven't crossed paths on this board or...onboard...HI! I'm Nicole. I live in Chicago. And I love cruises. They're my absolute favorite way to travel and see the world. I don't even know if I could put into words why. But every year since my freshman year of college, my family and I have taken at least one cruise (sometimes two...or three!). And even though my sister (Stephanie) and I are all grown up, we still try to cruise with our Mom every year. It's kind of our family tradition. And I've been posting reviews on here for nearly that entire time (holy cow -- I've been posting reviews here for, like, fourteen years ). See, I went to college to be a writer. And then I got a fancy journalism degree...and promptly went in to a career in digital marketing and merchandising and did nothing with it. So writing these reviews fills that piece of me that needs some creative outlet. And they serve as a pay-it-forward for all of the reviews I read before we visit new places or cruise on new ships. Obligatory family photo of us on the Vista a couple of years ago: So if you haven't read one of my reviews before, let me lay it out for you: these are long. Really long. And they have a ton of pictures. I've been writing this particular review and posting it on my blog for the past six months or so. I wasn't sure if I was going to cross-post it over here because the Horizon isn't in Europe anymore, but then Carnival announced new Europe and Mediterranean itineraries for its new ship and I figured some of you might it useful. Or, at least, I hope some of you find it entertaining! I write these in journal form because that's mostly what they are: my cruise journal (which also lets me re-live my trips when I share them with all of you!). And if you're not into long reviews but you're seeking Horizon and/or Mediterranean cruising info, I have the Carnival Horizon menus posted here, the 13-day Fun Times posted here and a ship walk through here. But I do hope some of you will follow along because talking about cruising is so much of the fun in writing these, and if you are following along, drop me a note below and let me know! And with that...let's go back onto the Horizon!
  3. The Panorama is going to have a Library Bar, not just a library. So it does get more use that the libraries on older ships. My husband and I love to play games while on cruises like the OP, and we were disappointed with the change from a library to a library bar when we were on the Horizon. It's, unfortunately, a different atmosphere than just a nice, quiet place to use for games.
  4. Just did the southern on Horizon. Nice ship. Cabins nice and plenty of storage.
  5. I will jump in here, I was fairly outspoken on this topic on an earlier thread regarding the Havana Cabana areas on the Mardi Gras. We are actually booked in a HC room for the first cruise out of Copenhagen. I agree that the web pages are a little vague. There are pools on the deck plans on different floors that are unlabeled. It certainly is true that the layout of the Havana area is on the starboard side and unlike the Vista or Horizon. All that said, I am reserving final analysis till we see more mockups of the space.
  6. This is a strange question, but I thought I would ask. I have seen on Youtube the room we will be staying in. It has a small coffee table in the corner, but I know instead of a coffee table, a chair could be put there. My question, would it be possible to ask the room steward to take the small coffee table out, and put a chair in its place, if they would have one available?
  7. My wife and I missed out on booking a Havana room on the Vista and Horizon, so when Mardi Gras sailings went on sale back in January, we booked Havana. Not having a spa or a pool in that area will be disappointing. It won't ruin our vacation in anyway, but we were hoping that it would have the same amenities as the Vista Class.
  8. Awesome to hear as the Horizon was one of the ships we were interested in 🙂
  9. We were looking at the Horizon..we Prefer the Larger Ships as well..I Cant wait to hear your review
  10. I did an Eastern Caribbean cruise on Horizon this past February and loved the ship. I would not hesitate doing that same ship and itinerary again Now, to be fair, I haven't been on a Carnival ship that I didn't enjoy.
  11. Asking which is the best ship is like asking what the best kind of pizza is. Everyone is going to have their opinions on which ships they like. The best bet is for you to say what you are looking for in a ship, big/small, itinerary, restaurants, bars, etc. Personally, I love the Glory and the Conquest is great for Eastern side. I prefer bigger ships over smaller ones. I sail on Horizon in a week to the Southern portion, which I haven't done yet, so I can comment more on that after I get back.
  12. We are sailing on the Horizon September 15. Received an e mail last night that the SkyRide would remain closed through September 29. Apparently the "enhancements" are taking longer than expected. No big deal for us, we'll have a great time anyway.
  13. Are these on all ships now? In cans, or just on tap for the Vista/Horizon where the brew pubs are?
  14. Here is a link to the story. First it was the Vista and now the Horizon has the same issues. https://www.cruisehive.com/second-vista-class-carnival-cruise-ship-closes-skyride-feature/33490
  15. On most of the cruises I've been on the Thirsty Frog Red was my go to beer as that's all they had on draft. I prefer draft beer and prefer the TFR over the other choices they have. I will be on the Horizon in just over a week and am really looking forward to the other beers they have on draft there. You don't drink stouts, but I don't drink IPAs, so I will just be skipping the one IPA they brew there and partake of the others. I am happy they are branching out to craft brewed beer as I don't care much for their can/bottle selection. Now if they would just get Guinness cans on board I would be set.
  16. So, I'll be on the Horizon on Sept 7. I'm going solo. I was looking at pics of the Steakhouse and noticed they have a bar with stools. May I eat at the bar in the steakhouse?
  17. Just got off Victory. We were only a party of 3, but we went 3/4 nights to MDR around 6:30-7 & never waited more than 5 minutes, if at all. Our prior cruise we were a party of 4 on Horizon. We used the app to request a table in the same 6:30-7. The wait time from request to ready was never more than 15 minutes.
  18. I know there are several Pay restaurants on the Horizon ship. Did I read that there are only "two", one for MDR, and one for My Time Dining restaurants on this ship? The reason I ask, I have been on several ships where they had pay restaurants, as well as the My Time Dining, but always had two MDR's too.
  19. I’m confused. A deck 2 suite on the Horizon would be a Family Harbor suite; these rooms have balconies. Actually, all suites on any ship have balconies.
  20. The ship hasn’t sailed yet, so it’s really going to be hard for people to comment on specific areas of the ship. I mean, technically the layout should be very similar to the Vista and Horizon, but you just never know what Carnival might change on a new ship until someone has actually been onboard. Which won’t be until December.
  21. Great review Sid! you have made be excited for my cruise next month on the Horizon and I sailed on her already, lol! Your pictures were awesome as well! Have a great time on your next cruise!
  22. Hi all - hoping to get some insights from anyone who has been on Carnival Horizon and Norwegian Breakaway class ships. We are primarily NCL cruisers and have never been with Carnival, but Horizon has piqued our interest. We’re looking at this ship, RC Symphony or Harmony of the Seas, or Caribbean Princess. Would love to hear your opinions about how Horizon compares to NCL Escape or Breakaway, in terms of general vibe, activities, food, crowdedness, etc. Also, if you have any thoughts on how Horizon compares to the Symphony or Harmony, would love to know as well. This will be a family trip for us, our 1 year old, and our parents in their 60s-70s. Many thanks!
  23. I may be 76 years old, but I LOVE pastel colors. 🙂 With all the pictures of the different buildings next to each other, with pastel colors, this I like! 🙂 I have been out of town a couple times, and am just "trying" to catch up with your review, and getting "ideas" of what the 8 of us might do on the Horizon in March. 🙂
  24. I know Carnival Horizon is a large ship, and we plan to take it in March. Since it is a large ship, is there any deck outside that will go through from one end to the other? If there is no deck outside, how about deck inside the ship going from one end to the other? As you can guess, I like to walk! We will be on deck 6, room 6205 at the end of the ship, which is an obstructed window. If you have been in that room (there is a video out on it, and I liked what I saw), I believe it has the deck right next to it. My question, if we open the curtain to look out, I know we can see out, but can people see us in our room as well? I believe someone mentioned about a secret deck on the Horizon. Which deck is it? Yes, I know once you let me know, it won't be a secret anymore. 🙂
  25. I hesitate to post anything here, but I am the type prone to always saying Thank You, so . . . I greatly appreciated the information provided pre/during/post Carnival Horizon, as it might be very beneficial on a future sailing (of a ship I've never been on). We were on two different ships this time during that week, and it made for another interesting read. Best wishes, and Bon Voyage, on the upcoming one as well. .
