  1. It was the best of times... It was the worst of times... Shortly after my return from the Norwegian Breakaway in February, I found out that I would have to find a new place to live in the next couple of months. I had just started a new job, that wasn't quite going so well, and now this... I had no future cruises booked, which further compounded my bleak outlook on life. I needed to get a countdown going to ease my frustration. I began poking around online, and was close to pulling the trigger on a 7 day Vista sailing out of Galveston... I looked around some more, and came across an 8 day sailing on Carnival's newest ship, the Horizon. It ended up being only a few hundred dollars more, and it was a Southern Caribbean itinerary, to all new ports to me, and I just held my breath and clicked the "book now" button... My countdown was 196 days, and my 50th birthday would fall smack dab in the middle of the cruise. Now, at least I had something to look forward to in my life... It did take the sting out of the depression I was feeling, not knowing where I would even be living in the near future. I had already started packing my stuff, as the move was inevitable. ***Disclaimer: If you're not really interested in the whole "pre-cruise" hoopla and rigmarole, please feel free to wait until Friday for the "real time" travel day and cruise edition... My reviews tend to be verbose, bordering on boring, so you've been warned. If backstories, planning, side stories, and digressions interest you, then pour yourself a drink, and continue reading... One of the goals with my "Reviews" is to inform, but for the most part they're meant to entertain... Please don't take anything I say or do too seriously. If you're easily offended, or lack a good sense of humor, you may want to employ the use of your comfort animal, or locate the shortest route to your "safe space"... I encourage you to chime in along the way with your comments. I'm going to be traveling by myself, so I could use some "virtual company" along the way. If you're still with me, prepare yourself for a journey of dinosauric proportions... I want to make it seem like you're right there with me, whether it be on the ship, in the back of a cab, or walking around in strange and far away places... I'll attempt to convey the sights, sounds, and yes, even the scents and tastes of my adventure. Oftentimes, I may go off on a tangent that strays far from the main story. That'll be half the fun of it. Even I have no idea where this is going... Whatever happens, that'll be the story. Nothing more... Nothing less... ***Photo below stolen from the internet...
  2. say hello to Annamaria at the Alchemy bar if she is still there! She was my favorite on the Horizon last year. She even let me join in on shaking the drinks with them!
  3. When we were on Horizon earlier this year the Alchemy Bar was always packed all 8 days of the cruise. First Carnival cruise where we never sat at the main bar at Alchemy the entire cruise.
  4. Loving your review so far! We did B2B on the Horizon in May and we absolutely loved it! We had never been to Aruba or Curacao and they turned out to be our all-time favorites!! Aruba was just gorgeous! And in regards to Alchemy, I give a special kudos to Anna Maria! She will make you anything you desire! We sailed with her on the Vista and to our surprise she was on the Horizon! We paid homage to her every night!! LOL..... Enjoy!! 🙂
  5. Did I read some place that there is a charge, and if so, what is the cost to see movies at the I Max?
  6. Oh, yay! I get to experience this one live. I have a Vista and Panorama coming up so the Horizon will give me a preview.
  7. Will a laptop fit into the cabin safe on the Horizon? Thank you!
  8. Welcome to the Carnival Horizon... I know y'all are ready for me to start drinking, but I've got to get some actual food in my belly first... Soon...
  9. Looking forward to your review. We are doing the same itinerary on Horizon in December but first have a cruise on Magic in October so had to check out your review.
  10. Our next 2 cruises ( May & Sept) are on the Horizon Aft Wrap Havana. Can't wait! We did the Vista, Same cabin, Havana and loved it. Doing the ABC's and in Havana don't get no better.

  12. I would like to do the Teppanyaki hibachi grill but my husband is allergic to shellfish. Will they cook his dinner separate. Thanks!
  13. I look forward to following you on all of your side trips at the ports and seeing Horizon from your view. Have a nice flight and enjoy your cruise on the Horizon. Thanks for allowing us to all tag along on your cruise.😎
  14. From John Heald's FB page. I hope this helps. John Heald 6 hrs · I know a lot of you have been waiting for news on Bermuda cruise is this weekend which unfortunately have been affected by the storm. Here are the latest details which you will receive in an email very shortly. Carnival Breeze – departing Saturday 9/21/19 Original itinerary includes a three day stay in Bermuda. Due to the path of Hurricane Jerry, the ship will now go to San Juan, Amber Cove and Grand Turk. Guests will receive a 25% FCC as a gesture of goodwill and will not have the option to cancel and receive any compensation. Carnival Sunshine – departing Sunday 9/22/19 Original itinerary included a two day stay in Bermuda. Due to the path of Hurricane Jerry, the ship will now call on Princess Cays and overnight in Nassau. Guests will receive a 25% FCC as a gesture of goodwill and will not have the option to cancel and receive any compensation. Carnival Splendor – departing Saturday 9/21/19 Due to the paths of Hurricane Mario and Hurricane Lorena, it will be necessary to reverse the order of the itinerary to stay a safe distance from the storms. No compensation or option to cancel since we are delivering the full itinerary. Additionally, we are monitoring for Carnival Elation and Carnival Horizon departing Saturday, 9/21/19, but do not expect any impact to their itineraries at this time. As always our main priority is to keep everybody safe and that’s why these changes have been made. Thank you for your understanding and I wish all of you an absolutely brilliant time and please know that our crew will give you the very best of times and of course lots and lots of fun Cheers.
  15. I'm back at the hotel room now... It seems as if they water down the liquor in all of Miami... No matter how many drinks I have, I just cannot get drunk in this town... We'll try it again on the Horizon tomorrow...
  16. I am so looking forward to seeing/reading YOUR review of the Carnival Horizon. I just booked it for March 15, 2020 for my 3 son/3 d-i-l's and a friend. Since I haven't been to Jamaica in many a year, that is one reason why I picked this itinerary, only it is for 6 days. I have been on 19 cruises so far, and this is the 2nd one I will be taking them on. I know by seeing videos and pictures of the inside of the ship, I'm sure there are things I will not like, but I am not nit picky, and I just go with the flo. The main thing of a cruise is to have a good time! By the date you posted you are doing the cruise, it looks like you will be boarding very soon! 🙂
  17. Can someone please tell me the cost? Thanks!!!! I will be sailing the Horizon on the 29th.
  18. It is really hit and miss, last cruise on the Horizon I tipped this one waiter fairly well and he always had drinks for me It didn't matter if I was playing or not. He took care of my DW also and she didn't have DOU. This was the best waiter I have ever had. I have been on cruises where the bar tender at the bar refused the DOU saying we had to be actively playing. No more tips for him
  19. I was just on Horizon 6 day cruise from the port of Miami when hurricane Dorian was approaching. Sail date was Sunday. Saturday night Carnival sent us an e-mail saying the POM was closing and not expected to reopen until Wednesday. Many of us were already in Miami. Carnival offered 2 options 1 cancel your cruise and get full refund plus 100% FCC 2 stay and cruise on shorten 3 day cruise and get 50% refund and 50% FCC We choose to stay and sail. We will file for trip delay with our insurance for room and board for the 3 extra day stay in Miami. This is different from your situation since ours involved the home port. Yours will involve different ports most likely. Cruises are rarely ever canceled. Carnival does have the right to change ports. There are some insurance that pay for missed ports.
  20. I believe it may have a bit to do with the phone. On the Vista my boyfriend had an iPhone8 & I had an S8 & my daughter had the J9. He got notifications, we didn't. Our last cruise on Horizon they had iPhone 8s, I have the S9 & we all got notifications.
  21. We were on the Delayed 6 day Horizon cruise a few weeks ago do Dorian They gave us a choice to Cancel and get a full refund & 100% FCC Plus $200 p.p air transfer Or sail on 3 day cruise get 50% refund & 50% FCC They refunded all pre paid stuff I thought they stepped up. But many on our FB page is blasting Carnival Many didn’t have insurance and are out expensive hotels and meals. It’s crazy reading all these post.
  22. I saw that there is no Park West Gallery on the Carnival Horizon and Panorama. I was wondering if Carnival was doing away with these art auctions. Not that this would break my heart as I find the art people annoying and have gone twice (I forgot how annoying it was the first time) and will not buy art or go again. I just thought it was odd that it was on all the ships except for the new ones. Perhaps Carnival has contracts on the older ships and is phasing them out?
  23. “When we do that we can accommodate larger ships like the Carnival Horizon and Norwegian Bliss, and future ships like Carnival’s XL class,” added Michael DeMeo, vice president, NY Cruise. Clue number two that Mardi Gras' sister might come to New York!
  24. Sid. I have been a lurker on your past reviews. Just spent 3 days reading all 131 pages of Your ATL thread. Looking forward to following your Horizon Cruise.
