  1. Saw that on another thread posted earlier. Happen's. They did same with Brilliance/Independence 2 months ago. My 4th major change in 5yrs by Royal, half time no extra $$$ offered.
  2. I just thought that it was funny that Royal kept a ship called Independence in the UK. Of course, i have seen us being referred to as The Colonies in posts.
  3. I hope not, but I am not an Independence fan! I think that is just a placeholder as they previously had Independence listed for 2021 too on the Gib schedule.
  4. Not being in the suite class, I'm hoping someone can give me a guess as to what level cabin they might Lift and Shift me to. I'm looking at the L&S from 11/14/20 Empress Studio Oceanview (8030) to 10/23/21 Independence. It's a great cabin for a solo, but I don't think there are similar cabins on other Royal ships.
  5. So far we've had 6 cruises cancelled. Our next RCCL cruise is a Freedom to Bermuda in May, then a Serenade to Alaska in June, then an Independence to the Southern Caribbean in July. 🚢 Hopefully!!
  6. I would book it, but my family are afraid to travel on this pilot program, in case there is any risk of being quarantined on a ship for another 2 weeks. And It doesn't make economical sense for me to cruise and pay the ridiculous single supplementary cost that it's usually priced at, given my age and financial independence. Also given that these are 50% capacity sailings, the prices are way more expensive then the 3/4 nighters with 2 or more port calls. So although i would really like to, i don't think I will just yet. Maybe my January there'll be more of a chance once things smoothen out. I'm sure there will be other Singaporean cruisers on this forum who will book these sailings!
  7. We were given some FCC last year for some Independence cruises that were cancelled. We rebooked for this past June and that was cancelled due to covid. Royal said I had to book by Oct 31or I would loose them. Does anyone know if I book something for next year and then cancel and rebook something for 2022 can I transfer them over to that cruise or would I loose them? Thanks
  8. Everything Twangster mentioned are the differences. That said, I love Allure. And if you've never cruised on Royal, that ship will probably blow you away. However, if having no slides on a ship is a total deal-breaker for you, then maybe look at what Symphony out of Miami has to offer. Independence of the Seas also goes out of Miami in July. Not Oasis class, but still amazing and was 'amped' with slides, has Grease as the Broadway show, etc.
  9. Can anyone confirm Independence has the “real” and faster Voom internet?
  10. Yes, Royal Caribbean has production shows on all of the ships. Only a few ships have Broadway shows. (or West End shows, in the case of We Will Rock You (Anthem)) Oasis class - Oasis has CATS, Allure has Mamma Mia, Harmony has Grease, Symphony has Hairspray. Freedom class - Liberty has Saturday Night Fever, Independence has Grease.

  12. We had new cabin assignment for Independence on Saturday but the cost was much higher. After a few more days they adjusted the price and it is over $400 less than the original price.
  13. Rhapsody and Independence are drifting not far away. Indy has been in port quite a bit lately. I would bet they are all taking on crew for a restart.
  14. I just checked our July cruise that was switched to the Independence. When they originally switched the ship and assigned the cabin, the cost was much higher than original. When I called they said it would be adjusted in the next couple of days. When I checked today it is now over $400 lower than the original payoff. Not complaining but find it interesting.
  15. I suggest donating it to a museum. Our only claim to history is my great-great-grandfather's name on Independence Rock going across the prairie in the 1840's. Meager.
  16. We are booked on the 5/8/2021 Brilliance for 7 nights and I saw it go down to $46 a couple of times. Finally I saw it go down to $46 again last week so all 6 of us in our group bought it. The next day we got the email that our cruise was being changed to the Independence! When I called Royal he said that the drink package would be refunded. I told him I was upset about losing a good deal. He said the same price would be offered for one week after we receive our new booking info about the Indy. I sure hope that pans out.

  18. So, finally got my new cabin assignment. Of course, now they are telling me that ALL aft balconies on Independence are for 3-4 person capacity. So, with only two of us, we cannot get an aft balcony. Third one I have had to give up with all these changes.
  19. I just checked my cruise planner and my July 3, 8 night Brilliance cruise out of Miami now shows a 7 night Brilliance cruise July 3 out of Tampa. It's my understanding that Brilliance isn't even sailing out of Tampa anymore, correct? I thought we would be switched to the 8 night on Independence out of Miami.
  20. I think they will do the Independence out of Ft Lauderdale.
  21. This is our first. We have always wanted to. I work for the school system so limited to 1 week at spring break 1 week at fall break and summer vacations. It is usually cost prohibitive in the summer to do 2 weeks but we got a really good deal on the Brilliance and haven't really been anywhere since a trip to Universal last December due to Covid so we have been saving $$ 🙂. I really wasn't interested in 2 full weeks on the Brilliance with an 11 year old but we can stay a bit longer on the Independence.
  22. We have our new cabin assigned in the Independence for our July 17 cruise. I think someone mentioned the price difference; I about had a fit when I saw it and called. The rep told me it should be adjusted by Monday.
  23. Same here. Interesting how they're giving aft balconies to passengers who did not originally have them. Does Independence maybe not have the hump balconies? I'm not sure, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. I am just bracing for losing my aft. It was one of the reasons we booked Brilliance (which was in place of our August 2020 on Navigator that was cancelled). At least Independence is a bigger ship...
  24. Thank you both. We are in an aft balcony on Brilliance, but I'm reading that the aft balconies are technically a different category on Independence, so I anticipate losing it, which I am not happy about. However, we also got a good price on this one, so it's hard to justify cancelling...
  25. We are booked on the same cruise and were switched to the Independence. Our cruise planner has not changed. This is a casino comp cruise, so, I think we will be the last to have a cabin assignment. We do have a balcony, and hope that does not change.
