  1. Hi we're going on a 3 night cruise the end of August sailing from Southampton to bridges and France, taking grandson whose 17 would he be allowed a alcohol drink in the restaurants? What drinks can we take on to the ship? Like wine, beer soft drinks. Anyone know any prices of onboard drinks, glass wine, coke/pepsi , pint larger? Thanks
  2. What are the operating hours of the basketball court? My 11 year old & I get up pretty early in the morning, as early as 5am, and would like to take advantage of the courts early to avoid crowds.
  3. Hi, Currently on the Independence of the Seas and need to stay connected to the kids and work (unfortunately). Here is my experience so far: Paid for one connection but am sharing it with 5 devices (iPhone, MacBook, Samsung Tab, S9, and Windows laptop). I can return the TP-Link AC750 Wireless Wi-Fi Travel Router (TL-WR902AC) to Amazon. VPNs are blocked overall (NordVPN, mine of choice) in fact any web pages that mention VPN are blocked also Even when using "obfuscated mode" to circumvent blocking they still blocked NordVPN Using another VPN from a well-known network is working fine ( I can mention the name if needed after we get off the boat) Windows 10 hotspot does work well except it likes to timeout when no clients are connected It seems there is no way to disable the timeout only to lengthen it Verizon wifi calling is terrible with the S9 even with changing the network settings to prefer wifi it still wanted to use cellular putting the phone in airplane mode and then turning on wifi gave me the dreaded "Unable to make calls in Airplane mode. To allow calls, Airplane mode will be turned off." a reboot of the phone and turning off and on the wifi (on the phone) enabled it to be able to make calls even with wifi on some calls don't go through and I have reboot the S9 again like I'm using Windows 3.1 - iPhone wifi calling is also terrible in this setup Lastly the call quality was like before Sprint made the pin drop in 87 (horrible) with intermittent dropouts, i.e. people not hearing me. This is with both the Verizon S9 and the AT&T iPhone. Next test is to try Whatsapp and Viber to see if they can do any better in this setup. My connection speeds are 2M down/ 1.25M up consistently. (I am toying with the idea of purchasing a second connection to get 4M down) This post is to help people like me that need to be able to work on the cruise and harass their landlubber kids but want to save the Wifi charges for the suite charge or drink package instead. Ask me anything!
  4. If anybody is interested, I am attaching the 5 night (12/10/18) Independence compasses. It is the Costa Maya, Cozumel itinerary. Indy.pdf
  5. onboard IOS now and before sailing I struggled to find pictures of the new suite lounge so here are some!
  6. Hi All- I was a GTY Junior Suite on the Independence of Seas and today was assigned #1102. I believe this is a new room, so I haven't found much information on it. Has anyone had any insight or stayed in the new section of Deck 11?
  7. Hi all! Planning our first family cruise and we booked cabin 1100, one of the new rooms from what I’ve gathered. It appears that this single cabin exists only on the independence, but I could be wrong. Has anyone stayed in this 1L Panoramic Ocean View room? The pictures I’ve seen online are definitely incorrect and the representative at Royal Caribbean said the room is larger than the 175 feet listed but she had no idea the actual size. We sail in December so I’ll be sure to take pictures to share!
  8. I'm torn between the Brilliance, which does a 4 night out of Tampa, and a 5 night on the Independence. We live in NY, so plan to fly in the day before. Therefore, the 4 night actually works better as we don't want to be gone too long from the kids. But the Brillance looks kind of old and boring. I looked at pictures on cruise critic and the ship seems very dated. The Independence looks much more updated with cool features like the ice show, laser tag, and cantilevered hot tubs. My husband and I are looking for a short cruise in January while my in-laws watch our 2 year old twins. We have about 10 cruises under our belt. We have mainly cruised celebrity and love the S-class ships, but have done rccl (Serenade of the seas), princess (Grand), NCL (Breakway), and Carnival (Valor). We are looking to try something new! I tend to be disappointed with older ships (Grand Princess two years ago was a little disappointing). I love a special feature on a ship, such as the lawn on the celebrity ships, or the dueling pianos and improv club on NCL. Specialty restaurants are not important to us, as we typically find the included food to be fine (except on NCL). Does Independence feel more updated? Is the Brillance really as old as it looks in the pictures? Any cruise is a good cruise, but I'm really torn about this decision. The Brillance cruise works better for us, I'm just worried that there seems to be nothing exciting about the ship and I will be disappointed. Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app
  9. We will be taking a private shuttle service from London to Southampton and would love to avoid the crowds. What time can you board in Southampton? The ship sails at 4:30 p.m.
