  1. This seems like the perfect Oceanview Cabin, no other cabin on one side and very little activity around it. However, it is directly under the Bridge on deck 8. Will this cabin have any problem with noise? 😟
  2. Hi, I’d like some advice from those of you you have cruised on the Koningsdam. My husband and I love to sit on the promenade deck to read and watch the ocean. I understand this is not possible on the Koningsdam. Is there another place one can sit, preferably on a deck chair in the shade without having to listen to piped in music? I’ve discussed this with our HAL PCC and she thinks the only solution is to rent a personal cabana at a cost of $748 for a three week cruise. The itinerary on this cruise is particularly interesting but we rarely do excursions and are not beach people so a quiet, shady place is extremely important to us. I look forward to hearing from Kdam cruisers about this. Thanks. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. We enjoy HALs smaller ships. They seem more spacious and less kid friendly. We cruised aboard the Oosterdam, and didn't like the enclosed feel of the ship. I like the looks of the Koningsdam 2/6 itinerary, but am reluctant to book due to crowds and kids overtaking the pools. Most recently, our cruises have been with Azamara and Viking Oceans (which we loved, loved). We do enjoy lounging by the pools. What will the pool experience be like aboard the Koningsdam for a February cruise: quiet and restful or crowded and noisy? Thank you. Caroline
  4. Hi everyone, The wife and I are taking our 6 ft. tall 15 year old grandson on a 12 day European cruise on the Koningsdam next May. We are debating between booking a Veranda vs. a Vista Suite; but the real question is: Will he fit (and be comfortable) on the sofa bed? He'll probably 6'1" by May 2019! I'd love to get some feedback from those who've experienced these sofa beds. Many thanks! Ken B.
  5. Koningsdam is scheduled for dry dock in early December. Does HAL announce ship enhancements in advance of the dry dock?
  6. We have just put a deposit on Koningsdam cabin 6001. Its the forwardmost cabin portside on the Mozart deck. Per the deck plan it seems to have a slightly truncated verandah but also appears to be a bit larger than the usual vista suite. And yet I realize that the deck plans are not drawn precisely to scale. We were in a forward cabin on Osterdam awhile back (maybe 3 cabins back) and were perfectly comfortable, so I have no concerns about being so far forward. Can anyone out there in CruiseCritic land opine on cabin 6001 from firsthand experience?
  7. Considering going solo with friends in another cabin. Not loving the single supplement however. Looking for slight good news. Can I take 2 bottles of wine aboard? Will I get credit for two cruises? Any insight?
  8. I hope someone can share this info What are the dining packages offered on board the Koningsdam? Are there packages for dining once in each restaurant? How much are the packages? I know how much each restaurant is individually.
  9. We'll navigate on Nieuw Statendam begining december 30 and because it has not had its inaugural trip, so far I've researched all the information about the Koningsdam asuming it's identical to Nieuw Statendam. Do you know if that's accurate? Are there in facts differences in the configuration of the ships, public spaces or cabins?
  10. I just booked room 4043 on the Koningsdam. I would like to know something about the layout. The rooms are parallel instead of the normal configuration of long and narrow. There are 8 cabins just like this, 4043, 4045, 4044, 4046, 5053, 5051, 5048 and 5050. Does anyone have a picture of it. I searched thru out the internet and could not find one.
  11. Just considering taking a cruise aboard the Koningsdam. There are only a few ADA cabins left. Which would you choose: 4107, 4146 or 4167? Also, for those who have cruised the Koningsdam, did you find it crowded? Looks like there are stairs into the pools (not ladders). Is that correct? This would certainly help getting in and out of the pools. Thank you. Caroline
  12. Does anyone know when Ms. Koningsdam is scheduled for her first Drydock? I am looking at a 2019 sailing, but am wondering if there will be a drydock by that time. Many thanks 😉
  13. When i see the cruiseplanner for may 2020, i can presume that the Koningsdam will do sailing from Vancouver to Alaska? Maybe the current en 2019 routing of the Nieuw Amsterdam. I am currently booked on a Na sailing from Vancouver for june 2019. But know i am in doubt. Because i like the Koningsdam so much. The only downside is promenade with the lifeboats. Anybody did the 2? Is the food the same?i like the modern feeling of the lido at the koningsdam and the dining room. I like to have a table for 2 in the Mdr. Which was always possible with open seating. I like the modern tv s with the movies on demand. Will i like the Na? Tnx!!!!!
  14. We have booked 7106 on a future Koningsdam cruise and our two children will be in the suite with us. Does anyone know the actual bedding configuration in the SS? Is the murphy bed in the small area where the desk is? Perhaps the 4th bed is the sofa? We were trying to decide between the SS and the Vista but I do like the extra square footage on the SS, especially if the murphy bed is in the desk area for our teenager. Lastly, I can't find photos of the balconies on the SS category. Any idea how large they are and what kind of seating it out there?
  15. Hey everyone, It will be my first time on Holland America. I've done NCL and Celebrity. I'm thinking it will be an in between, am I wrong? I would like to enjoy everything that is included, any recommendations? Also, are there any activites that are really worth paying extra for? Thank you!
  16. For those who are interested in seeing what the double sized balconies look like in Room 4154 and the one down from it. Pictures are attached.. (it also includes activity booklets for the 11 day cruise as well) I hosted a party for 15 on our balcony no problem... Everyone just had to file through the room. p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #0000ff} https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B195qXGF1HoFQ7
  17. Thanks to CC, I have just discovered the ability to reserve cabanas on HAL. I have sent an inquiry to HAL requesting more details as I was unable to find any information about cabanas on their website. Do you need to reserve Cabana space for the entire cruise? Can you just reserve for a day or two? Can you wait until you are on board to reserve the cabanas? Are they worth the expense? We were on Regal Princess two years ago and found out about renting cabanas by accident. The ship was very crowded and it was almost impossible to secure deck space. We were able to rent for just the sea days and it was wonderful to not worry about where we would be sitting. The experience reminded us of when we first started cruising and were assigned deck chairs by the pool attendant.
  18. Cruising on the Holland America Koningsdam on May 10-May 20. Stopping in Barcelona on May 16th and using BarcelonaDaytTours. Hearing good things about them and will give them a try. If anyone is interested, visit http://www.BarcelonaDayTours.com
  19. A question - do the actual balconies have less depth the higher the deck? I know there are some nice deep balconies on Deck 4, but are they all about the same depth on the other decks? We will be cruising with our two teenagers in an opposite inside cabin, but would like enough room on the balcony for more than two of us at any given time. I am glad there are some family cabins on the Koningsdam, but at the same time disappointed that "family" type accommodation aren't also available in verandah cabins.
  20. We are interested in the Ultimate Dining Package that buys us one dinner at each of the five restaurants on board. If we buy it before our cruise, it is $95.00 per package which is a $25.00 savings. HAL representative just told me that these packages with these savings cannot be had once on board. Can someone please verify that we cannot make this purchase at this price once we are on board? What packages are available once on board? Thank you for your info.
  21. I wanted to share that we had a wonderful time on the Koningsdam May 1-13. We loved the ship, and it was in very good shape. We also all loved the music theme throughout – from the décor to the various music productions and bands. We are aged 5 to 75, so there was really something for everyone. We had partially obstructed balcony cabins on Deck 4. The view was totally fine and we could see everything for the most part, except the water directly below us, so we found this option to be a good value for us. And the proximity to both the dining room and Lido was great. The staff,as always, went above and beyond to make our time on board enjoyable. Our Captain Darin Bowland announced he would be moving on to Captain the Nieuw Statendam. We also heard that while in drydock, the Billboard Lounge and Lincoln Center Stage of the Koningsdam will undergo some changes based on feedback (among other changes they will be making). If anyonehas any questions, I'm happy to answer as best I can. Rosalynd
  22. I'm looking for a quiet oceanview cabin (category C, E, or F) on these ships. These cabins are on the main deck, and it seems that most are subject to noise from the showrooms, etc. on the deck above. Are there any "safe" cabins in that category? Thanks.
  23. We will be sailing on Nieuw Statendam and while I am looking forward to trying a new ship there are a few things that give me pause. One is the promenade deck, we will see just how much it may bother us as that is one of our favorite features of HAL ships. The other is the big screen at the Lido pool. I cannot stand the sound of a TV in the back round and the whole focus here seems to be the stupid screen. The chairs seem to all be set up to face it. My questions: is it loud? do they play things during the day? is it always on? Thanks for any info.
  24. Doing the Caribbean in November. Haven't been on Holland for awhile and we were wondering: 1. Can you go to the dining room for lunch on embarkation day? We have sailed Princess a lot in the last few years and having a nice lunch in the dining room versus the chaotic Lido is a nice relaxing way to start the cruise. 2. Read somewhere that Holland is hosting a cocktail party at the time of embarkation. Is that correct? If so how do you find out where and when it is happening. 3. We are 3 star mariner members and wondered if there is a special check-in line for us in Ft Lauderdale? Thanks
  25. Hello, Cruising November 2018, does anyone know the nightly entertainment? First time cruising Holland
