  1. We booked this cruise on February 15th and it sailed on the the 24th . Unfortunately , all of the Neptune Suites were sold out but they did have our favorite aft view in a VS verandah # 5200 . This was our 10th aft view verandah and it turned out to be , by far , the smallest . We thought that we would try the Club Orange to receive some of the NS type of perks . After clearing security we went to the express check in where the camera wasn't working . They used our Zaandam photos from December . After dropping our bags we headed to the MDR for lunch . The elevators were quite warm and with all the lights and reflective surfaces reminded me of the old toy Easy Bake Oven . The Lobster Shack looked good so we ordered it for the next day at Half Moon Cay Lunch at a table for 2 with a view . The service and the food was very good in the MDR and it was nice and quite .
  2. Can anyone tell me how late they serve breakfast in Club Orange. One of our party is a late riser. Thanks.
  3. We are considering bringing a larger suitcase to share rather than two smaller ones. Wondering if there will be room to slide it under the bed. It is 13.5 inches deep.
  4. My cruise is fast approaching, a transatlantic on the new Nieuw Statendam. For those who have been on her, has anyone stayed in either an extended balcony forward on deck 4 (over the world stage) or in a deck 10 forward facing oceanview? I am right now in the forward facing deck 10 oversized oceanview at 239 sq. ft. I see I could probably upsell for a few hundred dollars to either a deck 4 over world stage (worried about noise) but it as the extended balcony or on deck 6, a standard balcony cabin. The only downside is I will lose my prepaid gratuities. Since it is transatlantic, my husband says last time we did it, we didn't spend all that much time on the balcony. I normally do, but you go days with only seeing water.
  5. We are considering this HAL excursion at the conclusion of our cruise in June. Unfortunately, there is only one, very negative review on HAL's website. Apparently the 4 hour tour was over an hour late starting, resulting in little or no time being spent at the sites visited. Has anyone else taken this excursion, and if so, what was your impression?
  6. Taking a back to back cruise originating in Amsterdam, back to Amsterdam at 7:00am and then the cruise goes from Amsterdam to Rome on the same day at 5:00pm. If we are in the same cabin on both cruises, what is the usual procedure should we want to go on a tour at the end of the first cruise?
  7. Looking to book a category FA (family cabin) as a party of five. It is very important to me that the pull down bunk be over the sofa rather than the bed. Does anyone know which FA staterooms have the bed over the couch? Holland America doesn't seem to know when asked over the phone. I was thinking that perhaps people who have been on the ship will have some insight.
  8. Hi all - I have a girlfriend who is sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam next month. She hasn't cruised much and has a couple questions regarding internet. She owns a pretty successful Etsy store and needs to be able to access her Etsy store daily. She has customers asking questions, artwork that needs to be uploaded or emailed, etc. She saw that she can buy a block of internet minutes, but she's wondering how that works as it relates to uploading or emailing artwork. Do the number of minutes it takes to upload a file simply come off the block of minutes she's purchased? What if she uploads multiple files at the same time? I was thinking that her best option might be to simply get an international plan with her cell provider and use that to access her store. There are only 2 sea days in their itinerary. Just looking for some more detailed info on how the internet plans work and any suggestions everyone might have for her. TIA!! 🙂
  9. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at Pier 21 (port to - rather unusual) where our view will not be blocked by Edge from 0615-1600. Most HAL ships have been leaving at 1700 so we will have to watch if this gets changed. She will be going on a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise. Sunday, December 9 Fort Lauderdale, FL Monday, December 10 At Sea Tuesday, December 11 Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands Wednesday, December 12 San Juan, Puerto Rico Thursday, December 13 St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands Friday, December 14 At Sea Saturday, December 15 Half Moon Cay, Bahamas Sunday, December 16 Fort Lauderdale, FL Also in port are Celebrity Silhouette from 0430-1600 (pier 29), Regal Princess from 0500-1600 (pier 2), Harmony of the Seas from 0515-1630 (pier 18), Celebrity Edge from 0530-1600 (pier 25), and Caribbean Princess from 0545-1600 (pier 4). With five ships set to sail at 1600 this might be a long sail-away. The PTZtv webcams can be found at https://www.ftlauderdalewebcam.com/ and https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/ . Eurodam will be in San Diego, departing on a 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise. http://sundiegolive.com/ Next up: Koningsdam and Veendam on Monday, 10 December.
  10. Good, but some things are never the same second time around. Ship great, cabin fine, food average, entertainment a bit dire.
  11. So, Wikipedia lists Nieuw Ryndam as the name of the third Pinnacle class ship. Rumor or fact? It's on the internet, it must be true!
  12. I hope the experts can help with this... I am rethinking the cabin we have booked. (after just having a forward higher deck on our recent cruise - whoa!!!) And am seeing a low deck, mid-ship, cabin available. It is on the Main Deck, close to the bottom level of the Atrium. Can anyone give me any insight on what kind of noise/traffic there might be. Music Walk is forward of the Atrium, on Deck 2. Could this be an issue? I am wondering if I should consider one of the new Ocean View cabins that were added to the Nieuw Statendam on the Main Deck. Any thoughts?
  13. tThe Nieuw Statendam seems to be almost a duplicate of the Koningsdam (aside from the artwork) except in one place. As I understand (haven't sailed it yet) the Crows Nest on the NS has been fitted out in the new style, with the Explorations Cafe merged into the bar, the Excursions office move up to the starboard side, the Captain's Room converted to a lecture space, and big video screens in the middle. We were afraid that the Koningsdam would be retrofit in that style during its December drydock, as has been happening to the older ships. Fortunately not ! The Koningsdam Crows Nest still has the traditional layout, except for being carpeted all the way across instead of having a dance floor. There are a large number of comfortable chairs of various styles in various groupings. A very pleasant place for a lot of passengers to relax.
  14. Would like to know the different wi-fi packages on board the NS. Only interested in checking emails & don’t need for entire cruise. Thank you!
  15. Does anyone know if Room 3341 on MS Amsterdam has a baloncy?
  16. Hi Team, Quick question. Does anyone know what draft beers are served on the Nieuw Statendam? Thanks Dan
  17. We have just booked this cruise - 1st timers on HAL! Married couple, early 50's, adventurous and up for meeting like minded souls on our cruise!
  18. My wife and I are considering a cruise on the Amsterdam to South America. I know that HAL has abandoned Ballroom Dancing on many of its ships. However, on the web site it says that there is Live Music and Dancing in the Ocean Bar in the evenings. Is this still true? Are they still playing music suitable for ballroom dancing? We have sailed on the Amsterdam many times in the past and the dancing was quite good. However, it seems they are moving away from this and we don't want to have the wrong expectations. Thank you in advance for this information.
  19. Need help with booking a private excursion in Stavanger. Came across 2 . Rodne Fjord Cruise which specializes in sightseeing tours in the Lysefjord or Classic Lysefjord Safari aboard a high speed RIB boat
  20. Hi, Newby here trying to decide between Eurodam and N. Amsterdam out of San Diego. These ships have identical Mexican Riviera iteneraries. One leaves on Saturday and the other leaves Sunday? Any opinions on which ship to choose or does it really not matter?
  21. I'm currently on the amsterdam for the panama canal cruise from Los Angeles to Miami. I collect all the ship model where I sail and I booked online my ship model (to be sure to get it) last August. When I boarded I got my card confirmation about the ship model purchase but no ship model in the cabin. On this cruise the shops were closed for the first 2 days because hal changed the brand in the shops..anyway the third day I went to the shop to inquire about the ship model and they said no more ship model on the ship and suggested me to go to the information desk. So I did and there they told me that they will investigate or at they will refund me ( I dont mind about the money but I do want the ship model). I met the hotel director and informed him about all my story to try if he can have a solution for my ship model.... At this moment we are almost at the end of the cruise (tomorrow panama canal transit and then cartegena before to arrive in fort lauderdale) and any reply back to me so I would try to send an email to hal headquarter to try to have the ship model. Please, anyone of you can suggest me which email? Thanks in advance.
  22. Here is a link to an interesting article about this wonderful new ship that appeared in the LA Times We were on Nieuw Statendam's maiden voyage. Here's what we discovered By KARL ZIMMERMANN JAN 27, 2019 | 3:00 AM | ABOARD THE NIEUW STATENDAM https://www.latimes.com/travel/cruises/la-tr-cruise-nieuw-statendam-holland-america-20190127-story.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+latimes%2Fsports%2Ffootball%2Fnfl+(L.A.+Times+-+Pro+Football)
  23. I am looking to do a Hawaii/ Tahiti cruise to celebrate our 50th Anniversary in the fall of 2021. I would like to do the long one from San Diego out as far as Fiji, Tahiti and Hawaii and back to San Diego. The same cruise Amsterdam is doing this fall (2019) Before I get my hopes up to high does anyone have any inside information on Amsterdam for that time frame? As a back up I see this year Rotterdam is doing a shorter version in that time frame during the fall of 2020 and I could do that in the fall of 2021, if Rotterdam does it. I would just prefer the longer version. I thought I read something that Amsterdam was going to do a long Asia trip, but of course I can't find it now. Thanks for any info. Helen
  24. We don't leave Civitavecchia until December 5, but we wanted to start the thread a bit early, so that others on the roll call can join in. We have an amazing roll call, over 200 people, and I'm sure we will have an amazing cruise!
