  1. Is the Nieuw Amsterdam charted the week of 1/19-1/26/2020?
  2. We cruised on Veendam last summer and I loved the taco bar next to the Dive In. We are now booked on the Nieuw Amsterdam, but I haven't seen a similar taco bar in any of the photos. Does the NA have one?
  3. I lined up the deck plans, do you think we will hear lots of noise from above us? We are don’t go to bed early, around midnight.
  4. Good morning, Can any recommend a quiet table number for 2 in main dining room on the Nieuw Amsterdam. I excluded the dining room map. Thanks a lot NADM.pdf
  5. We are booked on HAL Nieuw Amsterdam Alaska Inside Passage, RT Vancouver August 3, 2019. We are waitlisted for 8:00 pm dinner seating. My question is how difficult is it for a group of 6 to just show up at the later seating and wait for a table. Has anyone experienced this before? What would other options be?
  6. Starting a roll call for Nieuw Amsterdam, Alaska Inside Passage, 7 night, RT from Vancouver August 3, 2019. Taking our two 20-something kids (plus their significant other/friend) for a family trip. First time on HAL, first time to Alaska, and very excited!
  7. We are sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam in 11 days (yeah!!)... Can anyone tell me if they set up pickleball courts on this ship, and if yes, are they set up every day and do they hold organized games/tournaments? Thanks!
  8. Hi all, DH and I are considering a date in March for this cruise. While HAL trends older, I am a bit worried we will be surrounded by young spring breakers. Does anyone have experience that they can share? We are all in for fun but a bit over 24-7 partying. Many thanks.
  9. Starting a roll call for Mexico cruise from San Diego.
  10. I have read that it is possible to make table reservations for three days at a time... Can you make a table reservation if you are assigned Open Seating?
  11. Have all of the suites on NA been updated with the new soft goods? If so, is this all suite levels? We’re in a Neptune Guarantee the end of February and a Signature the end of October and just wondering if they’ve all been updated. Thank you.
  12. We sailed enjoyed the production shows on the Amsterdam in December. Now we are considering the Statendam in Febuary. Would the production shows be the same as the shows we saw on the Amsrerdam?
  13. Where does Nieuw Amsterdam dock in St Thomas, Havensight (spelling?) or Crown Bay? Is there a way to print out airplane boarding passes on the ship? Any good tips about this ship? We're doing St Thomas, Grand Turk, and Puerto Rico.
  14. Instead of stuff this year for Christmas, we gave the kids a cruise March23-31. This will be our second HAL cruise. We booked a lido deck cabana, we figured the teens would rather be near the pool then up in the retreat, I have book the laundry package ( to save clothes everywhere) we have the SBP and we ordered the quench package for the teens. Prepaid the gratuities booked dinner at each specialty restaurant. The ports we are going to are ones we go to when we go and stay in Mexico, so the kids are not into excursions there, they rather explore the city a bit then have the ship to themselves. So have I missed anything?
  15. Hello, I’m looking into a family cruise to Alaska on the Nieuw Amsterdam. I was hoping someone could provide guidance on food choices at the Lido buffet, as I’d like to see whether it will work for one of my kids. My son has sensory issues and prefers very simple food with few ingredients - for example, if he eats pasta it is plain or with cheese, no sauce or other ingredients mixed in. I’ve looked at kids menus for the main dining room and can see that there are several items that will work for him, but I’m sure that on some nights we won’t feel like sitting through a formal dinner. Are there any basic picky eater-friendly menu items that are consistently served at the buffet? For example, if there is a made to order pasta or sandwich station, that would work. Thank you in advance!
  16. Does anyone know if stateroom has a couch? Thinking about upgrading. Have searched on line and it shows various arrangements of L Large interior staterooms. Does anyone have a picture...that would be great! Thanks so much!
  17. My son and his family went on a 7 day cruise to some western Caribbean islands and Mexico 17-24 Nov and told me there were NO evening shows in the main theater other than port lectures. We heard HAL no longer has production shows, but have they stopped booking guest entertainers as well on the shorter 7 day cruises on the Nieuw Amsterdam as well? He said they had port lectures in the evening and had one game show, Majority Rules, on the last sea day. We know from recently cruising on the Amsterdam and Koningsdam, they sometimes advertise the main show times on the back page of the Navigator (?) rather than in the chronological daily event postings on pages 2-3. In fact when we were on the Amsterdam a year ago, a guy told us he missed the first 5 evening shows because he didn't notice them listed on the back page. Could my son have missed the evening shows in the main theater because of similar oversight or has HAL just stopped booking acts on the 7 day Caribbean cruises on the Nieuw Amsterdam?
  18. We are going on a mexican cruise druring spring break, I see lots of posts about other ships. We were on the Veendam last Easter. What kind of differences will we experience? We have 2 teens coming too.
  19. Good Morning Everyone I am considering a full transit of the Panama Canal in the 'dry season'. One option is a January LAX departure on the Amsterdam; the other option is a March FLL departure on the Nieuw Amsterdam. Current UK pricing NA is 20% higher than the Amsterdam. Speciality dining is not an attraction to me - I have dietary restrictions. However I do like multiple evening entertainment options. Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance. Annie
  20. I told myself I wasn’t going to ask people about the Nieuw Amsterdam or this itinerary. I was just on the Eurodam last year, and I’ve been to all the ports. I almost made it. The roll call was my first stop, but I see posts about 2017? So here I am. Who are your favorite staff members on this ship? Cool things you’ve done on board that I might miss without your insider information? And you can use this thread to drop off any questions I can try to answer for you while I’m onboard. I’m no POA, but I do have a good team and some time for research.
  21. THE SUITE (PHOTOS ATTACHED) Our cabin (7080) was a little larger than most Signature Suites since it's located right were the ship juts back out from the center. The extra space extends the cabin quite a bit and might have been better suited for additional square footage on the balcony, but it's also a great spot to store empty luggage. Bed was comfortable and AC/heat both worked well. Hardly heard any hallway noise in the evenings, nor anyone in the cabins next door or above. Cabin was always attended to quickly in the mornings and in the evenings for turn-down service. THE FOOD Pinnacle Grill and Tamarind are amazing, both in quality of food and service. Main dining room and buffet also had great service, but the food was hit or miss (which is to be expected for mass production). Also to be expected: the buffet area can be a madhouse at times and finding a table for larger groups can be a challenge. The main dining room was just the opposite: most table around ours were empty on the two nights we ate there. ENTERTAINMENT Billboard Onboard was great fun, especially the request shows later in the evening. It was great to see everyone sing along and have a great time with the two performers. Only caught the illusionist on the Mainstage and was surprised at how great his show was. Didn't spend time at BB King, America's Test Kitchen, or Lincoln Center Stage, but did walk by during performances and all appeared to have standing-room only (Lincoln Center Stage sounded incredible, so sorry to have missed that performance). GREENHOUSE SPA Like any cruise, spa treatments on board aren't cheap, even when they offer special discounts. What's worse is the up-sell on products after every spa appointment. However, we did make great use of the "discounted" spa pass that allowed daily access into hydro-pool, saunas, and ceramic-heated loungers (for $149 per cabin with two passengers). What else would you like to know? Happy to answer questions if you've got 'em.

  23. Seasoned cruisers new to HAL. Looking to book a 7 night on Nieuw Amsterdam. Have 2 questions for anyone who has recently sailed on her. I already tried searching the boards but didn’t come up with answers specific to this ship. 1- how fast is the WIFI onboard and what was the cost for unlimited access? 2- are there any cabanas overlooking a pool area? Specifically want to keep an eye on my teens, but don’t need to be right there with them the whole time. Thank you you in advance for any insights!
