  1. Ever fancied one of those mini-cruises? Those trips which hop from a UK port to locations on the North European coast are often advertised at very enticing prices? Stuart Howells has been talking about his recent mini-cruise to Amsterdam. Does this short holiday make for a great first cruise? And is it an ideal way to see Amsterdam? Play his audiogram on YouTube to hear his review and opinions. Let us know if you'd been on a similar cruise, especially if you went on a Cunard ship. Happy Cruising! 2. I have been on neither of these ships. I’m looking at a Canada New England itinerary. I’m looking for the good and not so good about either ships. Thanks in advance.
  3. Nieuw Statendam will be at pier 26 (port to) from 0400-1700. She will be doing a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise. 5. Greetings! My wife and I (mid-60's) are considering a Christmas cruise this year. Celebrity has always been our cruise line of choice but we thought about trying a HAL cruise this time. There are two cruises that fit our schedules and both seem to be very nice ships...The Eurodam and the Nieuw Statendam. We would try to secure an oceanview or verandah cabin. The ports of call are not that important to us on this trip. We would primarily like to enjoy the ship and all it has to offer (food, beverage, shows, meeting new people at dinner and around the ship). I guess we a
  6. Booking an Oceanview cabin on this transatlantic cruise. Some cabins are located on the Main Deck right below the Lower Promenade deck which has a lot of activity. Does the lower promenade activity disturb the cabins below it? We are light sleepers. Also, if we decide to go with a Balcony/Verandah cabin, are there any problems with smoking, vaping, or any other substance next door? I know that smoking is not allowed with exception of smoking areas. But, you know how people can be. Just need to know how well it is enforced on this ship? Thank you in advance for info provided. 🛳️
  7. I love Italian food more than any other cuisine. I visited Italy many times in each of the regions. My sister in law loves it too. I always said I wanted to eat my way through Italy! Anyone been there? Had a favorite dish?
  8. A first for us, arriving in country on the same day as cast-off for a cruise. It worked out well because we had a direct flight from Dulles to Amsterdam, can rest well while in flight and cast-off wasn’t until 11PM. We arrived at 735AM so there was a pretty large buffer. Our flight over was on a UA 767, with 2-3-2 seating. We had economy plus seats and sat side be side on the 2 side. Flight was uneventful, meal was unmemorable, the movie Yesterday was surprisingly good. Arrival at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport was thirty minutes early, but any time gained and then some was lost
  9. Has anyone used a private driver/guide that they can recommend in Amsterdam?
  10. We're flying into Amsterdam next July and need a hotel for a couple of nights before boarding our ship - the Veendam. We don't know whether it's best to stay out by the airport or more in the central area. I've seen a few hotels near the airport that have shuttles which is nice, but I don't know if it will be harder to go and do and see things. One thing we'd like to do is go to Rotterdam one of the days... is that easy to do on the train? Would it be easier to be by the airport or in the central area to do that? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! Rhonda
  11. Originally, I had my mind set on the Mediterranean Celebrity Apex pride cruise, but I see Atlantis listed a European cruise July 12-22 on NCL jade. https://atlantisevents.com/Amsterdam-Barcelona-Cruise/overview As a repeat customer for NCL, will I receive the latitude points with NCL since this will be booked through the Atlantis website? Also, we are not drinkers or looking for a party atmosphere...will this sailing be more of an older crowd considering the length of the trip?
  12. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at pier 26 (starboard to) from 0530-1700. She is doing the 7-day Malt Shop Memories cruise. Philipsburg, St. Maarten (05 Nov 0800-2359); St Johns, Antigua (06 Nov 0800-1700); Fort Lauderdale, Florida (09 Nov a0700) Other ships in port are Carnival Sunrise at pier 4 (0630-1600), Celebrity Equinox at pier 25 (0600-1530), Coral Princess at pier 2 (0515-1600), and Majesty OTS at pier 9 (0545-1600). The PTZtv webcams can be found at https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/ and https://www.ftlauderdalewebcam.com/. Also, Zuiderdam
  13. For our pre-cruise extension for the Viking Rhine Getaway we have been assigned to this hotel. Thoughts, recommendations please...our first adventure to Europe.
  14. Hello all, My parents (late 70s) will be traveling on the Nieuw Amsterdam in a few weeks. Does anyone have recent Caribbean dailies (the voyages with St Thomas & San Juan)? How was the entertainment? Were there any lectures / learning on board? Thanks for any insight / advice / feedback!
  15. So, we fly KLM from California to Amsterdam and then switch planes (also KLM) and fly to Barcelona. We have never flown into Amsterdam/Schiphol. My overall experience flying tells me that I cannot be sure that my connecting flight may not be in the same gate area even when it is the same airline. Those that have experience flying on KLM through Amsterdam/Schiphol, can you please weight in on this and let me know if an hour is sufficient? Thanks!
  16. We're taking our first river cruise on AmaWaterways in May 2020, Basel to Amsterdam. We'll be spending two weeks in Europe prior to the cruise so didn't opt for any pre or post stays and we'll be making our own arrangements to transfer to the airport at the end of the cruise. We have an 9am flight and will need to disembark early. I've already spoken to AmaWaterways and there is no problem with this, but I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for airport transfers. I know that we can have AmaWaterways arrange this for us but I suspect it might be a little pricey. Does any have a
  17. We usually sail during the Holiday season but this year are waiting until January 5th 2020. In seventeen cruises, we have never experienced a ship without Christmas decorations. Kinda looking forward to enjoying the Nieuw Statendam's elegant beauty without extra adornment. Can we expect that she will have been de-decorated by the time we board her?
  18. Ken and I are doing our second transatlantic and looking forward to being on such a new ship. Hope meet new friends at the LGBT meetings.....
  19. I have just posted a review to my website with lots of photos of a recently completed European cruise on the Oceania Marina. It visited ports in Amsterdam, England, France, Spain and Portugal. I also spent 3 days before the cruise in Amsterdam and 3 days after the cruise in Lisbon. As a result, it is a very long review. I also have the menus from the restaurants and lounges. This is my first cruise without my darling Carol, who I lost to Cancer in March. I was apprehensive about cruising on my own. But I was truly blessed that my son, Craig, was able to take time off to go o
  20. We have 4 couples traveling in January. Are there tables for 8 in the dining room?
  21. has anyone any information about p&o shuttle bus to amsterdam
  22. Report # 1 San Diego, California Day One October 26, 2019 Saturday Sunny & Hot 23 Pictures Part #1 Of 1 Well, here we go again, beginning another adventure, which turned out to be a bit longer than we usually undertake. Late summer usually has us thinking of cruises to Alaska and Hawaii. But this year, HAL offered another South Pacific itinerary that really appealed to us. Aptly named “Tales of the South Pacific”, we booked this 51 day cruise, with a two day stay in San Diego. We will have a 12 day break in December to take care of a million things at home, in
  23. Anyone out there have pictures of this suite? I've heard conflicting stories about the aft suites being smaller or having weird furniture arrangements. I guess pictures of any of the other decks aft Neptune suites would also answer this question. Thanks!
