  1. We are considering an aft-wrap Neptune on the Nieuw Statendam (I think the Koningsdam is the same) and am wondering which deck to select from? I and familiar with the aft-wraps on the VIsta class ships, but not on this new class. Which cabins are are largest, inside and balcony, and any other pros/cons.
  2. I know this is a different question but I'm hoping someone can help. We're arriving in Amsterdam next summer and will have 3 days for touring before our cruise. My mom would love to see something of Germany since her family came from there way, way back in the 1800s or so. I see that trains are available for travel between the countries, but I don't know where we should go for a long day of seeing a tiny bit of Germany. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Radbooks
  3. Forgive me if this has been covered. I did a search and read a lot of lido cabana threads, but nothing answered my question. We just booked one for our Alaskan cruise next year. I did read that some felt it was best not to be too close to the end where the Dive In is located. I booked the St. Tropez, which is the last cabana on the other end. Is there a reason that being on the end there will be less desirable than being in one of the center cabanas? My thought was that with only having "neighbors" on one side, it might be quieter, but I guess that's really dependent upon what
  4. Anyone know what hotel(s) AMA and Uniworld use in Amsterdam for pre-cruise hotel stays?
  5. Hello, I have been looking at a cruse on the Nieuw Statendam for next spring and I am a bit puzzled. What is the difference between a veranda cabin and a vista suite. I see that the veranda has the living area next to the patio and the VS has the bed next to it. Really would like to know what is different before I book. Also if anyone has stayed in a VS what are your thoughts. Thanks
  6. We are slated to cruise on February 7, 2021, on the Nieuw Statendam (fingers crossed) and have some questions about this ship: 1) Does it have Pickleball? 2) I read somewhere that they have outdoor movies -- where do they show these movies? 3) How many gala nights are usually held on a 10 day cruise? I'm sure I'll think of more questions as time goes by. LOL I check the HAL site every day to see if they have changed their target date for resuming cruises...so far, so good for February 7... Thanks!
  7. We are looking for someplace near the train station/cruise port to rent. Has anyone ever rented a Boathouse in Amsterdam. We are looking for something different......4 nights, great location, reasonable price and clean of course. Thank you,
  8. Fred Olsen Cruise Lines have released the first cruises of their new Bolette. Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has finally opened bookings for its new ship, Bolette. The new vessel will join the Fred Olsen fleet as its flagship, sailing a number of brand new itineraries and a series of British Isles cruises. Bolette will make her debut on 5 March 2021, sailing a seven-night Scotland and Northern Ireland cruise setting sail from Southampton. This will be followed by two further UK cruises before Bolette sets sail for the warmer climes of the Azores and Madeira, which will take place
  9. Has anyone stayed in the Vista suites on the 8th deck? Especially ones that have an extra upper bed. Thank you.
  10. Searching through RC to try to find and book a cruise that we had booked for 2020, but had to cancel due to family illness and death. Departure was Amsterdam and had ports in Greenland and Iceland. I can find Greenland and Iceland under ports of call, but I can't find a cruise for 2021 with these ports. All I could find just had Iceland. I looked at Roll Call threads also to no avail. If anyone can help I will greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
  11. Are they going to post the Nieuw Statendam summer 2021 cruises schedule.. Or is this next ship to be sold.
  12. I made a harbour tour yesterday and made some pictures from the Damen Shipyard at the Botlek Rotterdam from the Rotterdam and the Amsterdam. Amsterdam was still in dock, Rotterdam was in the water again and was getting a technical inspection and a paint job (a lighter blue on the hull). The Holland Amica Line letters were already gone. Both ships looked very bad (like it has been told here before) from a long period at sea with no cleaning and a just a little maintenance. So sad to see them there. A couple of months ago they were busy cruising and being a safe home for a lot o
  13. Which ship is better to do an Alaskan cruise/ And has anyone done the 18 day land/cruise on Holland America? How was is?
  14. Hello, I am currently trying to book return airfare from Amsterdam for June 2021 (crossing my fingers....) and I'm trying to decide what the absolute earliest flight I could make if we self disembark. Some in our party can not take the additional day off work the next day and most other flights have us arriving the next day. We are on NCL Jade, itinerary says we arrive at 7am. Thanks in advance.
  15. Anyone have any recommendations for private tours of Amsterdam? We’re looking for a tour of the city and are not interested in a walking tour.
  16. Here’s our situation. We will arrive 4 days early for our cruise, We would like to stay somewhere close to public transportation, on a canal, not too far from cruise port and centrally located. We do not need a luxury hotel, we usually book boutique type hotels. Any suggestions appreciated. TIA
  17. Is an 11:50am flight doable from the ship to the airport? I was there a long time ago but don’t remember the distance.
  18. Can anyone recommend a hotel near the Anne Frank House. I have a client that cannot walk too far and would like something in that area. The next day she is going on Viking and can get transportation. Thank you.
  19. With the loss of the Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Maasdam & Veendam, I have removed all sailings on the future cruise listing for anyone sailing on the 4 sold ships. (Hopefully I didn’t miss anything 🙏🏻). It’s entirely possible that HAL might transfer some of these sailings to other ships that are remaining in the fleet. If that is the case for you, please repost your cruise details on the Future Cruise Listing just as you did originally. Here is the link for this week’s listing - Thank you 🙂
  20. Since the news of Amsterdam leaving the fleet, I guess the next question is if and when cruising resumes, w:-)hich ship will be selected to do the annual HAL World Cruise when it is scheduled. Volendam is now the oldest ship in the fleet maybe HAL will use her. (Likewise HAL could also use Zaandam). I'm not sure HAL would use one of the larger ships as reading the blogs of passengers over the years it seems to me that Amsterdam was never at capacity. But I am not a HAL expert. Which ship do you think HAL will use for their "World Cruise" in the future??? Btw: just checked my
  21. I'm incredibly sad that our beloved Amsterdam has been sold. I knew some of the ships would go but not her. So, I know that many of us have fabulous memories of cruises on the Amsterdam so please share them here. Our first time sailing on the Amsterdam was a trans Atlantic from Ft. Lauderdale to Civitavecchia, Italy. I think it was a 16 day sailing and was our longest at the time. I'd also never been to Europe (I wouldn't fly) so it was the perfect way to get there. We absolutely loved the cruise; the elegance, the coffee bar (free at the time, located outside the Wajang Thea
  22. As the Rotterdam & Amsterdam are headed to Fred Olsen Cruises would you sail w that line instead of HAL???
  23. Has anyone cruised this ship and this cabin. It appears by it self. So it could be awesome or a closet that was converted to a cabin. Let me know please
  24. I'm going to be optimistic and believe we're taking our river cruise planned for April 2021. Does anyone know of a grocery/supermarket near the river cruise port in Amsterdam?
  25. Can someone tell me how much the lifeboats below block the view from this cabin? Are we better off with 5177 or 6169. thanks!
