  5. Last year, we traveled on the Nieuw Amsterdam and booked in part because we are big Scott Bradlee fans and were excited to see their shipboard show. The agent who made our reservation assured us they would be on the Nieuw Amsterdam. She was wrong, but we had a great time and booked the same ship for this year’s winter getaway. Subsequently we’ve read that SBPMJ will be rotating through HAL ships. Does anyone know if they are on the Nieuw Amsterdam in February? Thanks!
  6. Hi all, We have booked on the NA - Tropical Caribbean - I am looking at the available cabins at the sale price - on deck 8, the ship layout as provided by HAL has Neptune Suites on both sides of the ship. When I look at the cabins online, they have each been converted into two aft balcony cabins. Question - does anyone know if the cabins are the same size as the other aft balcony cabins? For the ones on the far port and starboard, do you get the large part of the wraparound balcony? So tempted to try and get one of these - but worried about the balcony si

  10. I wanted to post a trip report on our recent HAL Nieuw Statendam sailing. The TL;DR version was that we enjoyed the cruise and purchased future cruise credits. As a bit of background, DW and I are both mid-30s and experienced cruisers with this being our 4th New Year's holiday sailing (RCL 12/08, PCL 12/17, HAL 12/18). I wouldn't describe us as food or entertainment "connoisseurs", but we've been to various broadway shows, eaten at a few fancy restaurant, and lived in the "big city" for a while. Embarkation went smoothly. I think we got to the port about 9:45 AM and

She is heading out on a 10-day Southern Caribbean Seafarer cruise. Half Moo
  12. I do not normally rant about something in print, but this time I am just plain mad! We just received notice that we have been rebooked on the Zuiderdam on Feb 1 with a 7 CATEGORY DOWNGRADE from our Neptune Suite to a lower level promenade deck 5 balcony cabin. We received no communications from our travel agent, and nothing other than a notice of our new cabin number from Holland and an email with our new confirmation number. They did not even identify the new ship nor the reason for this change. I was able to contact my travel agent a few minutes ago and he did not receive notice either.

  14. Just booked a bump out room on deck 7. Anyone have information on those rooms? Pictures? I can’t find any, but it is supposed to be a bigger room and balcony.
  15. My 2 sisters, daughter ( who just turned 50) and I are sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam this Saturday, January 11. I want to treat her to a special birthday dinner at Tamarind. Can anyone recommend which night would be best to reserve? Thanks!
  16. It's taken a while for me to get my review posted, but here it is! For background, I sailed on NA from 12/21/19 - 12/28/19 with my 14 year old daughter. This was our first HAL cruise, though we have sailed on Royal Caribbean a number of times previously. I initially booked an inside room and about two weeks before the sailing I received an upsell offer to move to an obstructed window room. I took it since it was only $39 per person and I liked the idea of natural light. Then the week before our sailing, I received another upsell offer to move to a balcony room for just $79 per pers
  17. Hello! My partner and I are all booked for Celebrity REFLECTION British Isles & Amsterdam August10-22. Hoping to meet up/socialize with other friendly G&L couples on board.
  18. Thanks for reading. I'll do my best to answer any questions you might have. My husband and I left home on Friday to drive to Fort Lauderdale, which should have taken about 4 hours, but took 5 because of accidents. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. They are remodeling it, but it was nice and had parking. We ate at Duffy’s, which could have been better. We drove ourselves to the port Saturday morning. The port was busy. We parked and walked over to the terminal. We dropped our bag off with a porter, had a quick check in and went aboard right before noon. The staterooms
  19. My husband and I are flying to Amsterdam this spring and our flight arrives at 8:30 in the morning. We need to get a hotel since we arrive on May 1 and our river cruise leaves on May 2. The questions are: where should we get our hotel? close to the airport or closer to the port? Also, do most hotels have a luggage room? Assuming we will need to store our luggage somewhere so we can explore a bit.
  20. After decades enjoying ocean cruises I'm eagerly awaiting my first river cruise. One thing that has me stumped for planning is timing - I understand that most days a tour is included, usually about a half day. What I cant figure out is what to do with the rest of my time. I'm accustomed to planning and arranging independent tours in ports and travelling at night, but river cruises work differently and i cant find info on how much time we have in each port for independent experiences. How do i find how much time we spend in port but not with organized ship sponsored tours? Or will our days be f
  21. Happy Days Are Here Again! The piano was not being used, but was ready to play, complete with the sheet music for “Happy Days Are Here Again! We finished checking our 4 bags to Fort Lauderdale and were heading to the TSA checkpoint when we spotted the piano sitting at the end of the concourse. What a great sign of the wonderful adventure to come. Cruising in general is delightful, long cruises even better, but being blessed to be able to go on a 128-day Grand World Voyage is a special treat. I had to sit down and plink a little on the keys,
  22. *** NOTE*** I am posting this on Friday night and by Sunday some of the times and even piers may change. It is another full house in Port Everglades with eight cruise ships. 23. Seven ships in port today with a possibility of 19,000 passengers debarking and an equal number embarking (glad I am not going to be at the FLL airport!). Eurodam will be at pier 19 (starboard to) from 0545-1700. She will be doing an 11-day Panama Canal Sunfarer cruise.
