  1. The domestic flights have been full even now in the middle of this. International not so much. Last week a flight going to Amsterdam had 9 people and coming back had 12.

  4. Thank you for the Daily, Rich. What a great selection of days; I salute all of them. That quote by the Dalai is spot on. My alternate menu suggestion is Supreme of Fruit Galliano, Boston Lager Flatiron Steak, and Pear Frangipone Tart as served on the Amsterdam October 5, 2017. Apple Cider Glazed Chicken is also a great choice. 6. Denise: praying for your friend and those around her. Roy: I really want to see Come From Away - whenever the theaters reopen and it’s in town. Making Dutch Pancakes inspired by what we had in Amsterdam for dinner: topped with smoked salmon, froise creme and dill. Dessert is an experimental peach pie over gingersnap cookie crust with peach lavender gelato. The gelato made a really hard skin again.🤨
  7. Nieuw Amsterdam - starboard side entrance to the Mainstage Deck 2 (Lower Promenade)
  8. We took our first trip on Regent last year, went from Amsterdam to New York, over the top visiting Iceland and Greenland on the way, really enjoyed it although ( for us ) it was expensive - not for the millionaire's on board though! We met a couple of Americans who had done a thousand nights with Regent! The food was excellent, you can have fillet seak and lobster every night if you want, champagne and high end spirits, even a bottle of champagne in your suite when you arrive. The suites are very plush with walk in wardrobes and there is a large choice of included excursions all included. We have booked another three cruises with them as we really enjoyed the experience - No kids on our cruise that we could see. Dress code is smart casual, no formal evenings - meaning you do not have to wear a suit. Never been with SAGA yet although we have taken a bit of a chance and booked the Christmas Cruise to The Caribbean for 2022 on the yet to be launched new ship. I say a bit of a chance as we do not like the formal evenings but will have to put up with them or go to the buffet, and after booking I read that "dancing" is a popular pastime with dancing instructers for the elderly ladies, hope there is a decent bar we can retreat to!! and something a little livelier than ballroom! on the activity list. I think that SAGA will be a cut above Fred Olsen but more mid range than luxury. It looks to me that they seem to be trying to be in the same market as Viking with what they are offering, nothing the matter with that as we have enjoyed a few Viking Cruises. Hope this helps, cheers and happy sailing.
  9. The Elite Signature beverage package is $10/day more per guest + gratuity (can’t remember if HAL still at 15% or have gone to 18%). Some guests have been successful at upgrading once onboard, some not. HAL does not promote the package much and makes upgrading difficult, and there is no pre-upgrade option. Alot is left to the individual bar manager on each sailing to determine if they will allow it or not. With the exception of a few wines by the glass (mostly in the specialty restaurants) there is very, very little on the main bar menus that would be excluded as most spirits/cocktails are within the $11/drink limit. Note that if the drink exceeds the $ limit you are charged for the full drink not the differential. Additionally the 15 drinks per day limit applies to only alcoholic beverages. Non-alcoholic beverages are unlimited. HAL REALLY need to revamp their beverage package policies/offerings as they are leaving additional revenue on the table. I would have gladly either upgraded mine last summer on the Amsterdam for better wine selections (the staff acted clueless when I enquired about upgrading) , or failing that would have been willing to consistently pay the few $ extra for the more premium wines by the glass if they had just charged the differential. As it was I stayed within the package limits and HAL lost additional revenue.
  10. Probably 7 day Caribbean cruises out of Fort Lauderdale. There already are a couple of charters reflecting this and it is what Nieuw Statendam did.
  11. Windmills Zaanse Schans near Amsterdam
  12. Thank you for the Daily, Rich. Something does seem to have gone wrong with the map as I don't see any ships. National Fishing Fleet Day is nice; I know there were Covid outbreaks on a number of fishing ships; I hope they're under control now. My problem with golf is standing too close to the ball--especially after I hit it. I'm not a Frappe person but cheers to those who love them. Chicken Fricassee sounds good but my alternate menu recommendation is Chilled Cranberry Soup, Basil Crusted Veal Rack, and Ricota Raspberry Tart as served on the Amsterdam 3 years ago today. 14. I love the idea of Julie Andrews as Godmother of Enchanted and Bindi Irwin for Discovery! Those would be really lovely choices. I'd rather that the cruise lines stay away from Political figures like Laura Bush and Michelle Obama, even though I highly respect both women. Oprah is already Godmother of the Holland America Nieuw Statendam, and has/had a marketing relationship with HAL via her "O" Magazine, which has been a controversial topic with many HAL cruisers.
  15. Here is the latest update of the Dry Docks, Charters and Groups Onboard file. The charters and group sailings organisations have been slowly updating their plans, so the information listed here may change over the coming months. The information on the HAL website is sometimes contradictory to the information posted by charter organisations (i.e. some dates which are shown as charters on the organiser's website is still available to book on the HAL website). Also, some Charters/Groups have posted their schedules, however HAL have not posted theirs (eg Nieuw Amsterdam, Caribbean Winter 2021 sailings). As usual,if you have information about groups charters or dry docks then please post here and I will update in the next file. New information since last month is shown in RED. Group bookings which appear to have changed since last month are shown in GREY. 16. Close, Amsterdam, crossing the quiet Bering Sea towards Kushiro, Japan
  17. Frankly , I would choose the Zaandam. However, if it wasthe former Amsterdam, I might be tempted to go Fred Olsen.
  18. Would you please post this cruise Mar 13, 2021 Nieuw Amsterdam 7-Day Tropical Caribbean

  20. I think “she” is either at the bar getting you a cocktail, or in the ladies lounge powdering her nose! As far as the ship is concerned - I’m going guess it’s the Crows Nest on the Amsterdam, somewhere at sea 😆
  21. Please add the following: Mar.10, 2021 Nieuw Statendam 11 day Southern Caribbean Wayfarer Mar.21, 2021 Eurodam 7day Tropical Caribbean Sept. 25, 2021 Koningsdam 18 day Circle Hawaii Thank you Lynne
  22. Fred Olsen Cruises has certainly caught our attention by acquiring the Rotterdam and Amsterdam. I just went to their web site and noticed the ex Rotterdam, now Borealis, world cruise is possibly booked as it reads: "call for details", rather than a price. Most of the prices listed are considerably more than 100 pounds per day or $130 US for an inside room pp. Gratuities are extra. A glass of house wine is 4.35 pounds or about $5.70 US. I would seriously doubt dining and service is equivilent to Holland America's. So if the fares are about the same as HAL, I guess there would not be enough incentive to "jump Ship" to Fred Olsen.
  23. Ok, Janice Lanterman, Amsterdam
  24. Nieuw Statendam's coin ceremony with her madrina, Anne Marie Bartels. The madrina is a different position than the ship's godmother
  25. They were never identical, although sister, ships. The Amsterdam aft pool was on Lido Deck from the first, while the Rotterdam had her aft pool one deck below, as did the earlier S-class ships. Back in 2009 the Rotterdam was renovated (some would say 'butchered') to remove the aft pool, put cabins where she had been, and had a watering trough added on the Lido Deck. It wasn't good for swimming, was too slippery for wading, and generally served no useful purpose.
