  1. Thanks for the heads up. Booked the Nieuw Statendam for November 2021.
  2. Sailing up the river to Kotar. I couldn't believe a ship as large as the Nieuw Amsterdam could navigate such a spectacular seaway through beautiful mountains, small villages and islands.
  3. Unfortunately, this is my second time that HAL has switched out a ship underneath me. At least the first time, it was completely understandable since the Ryndam had construction delays. And they swapped with the Nieuw Statendam, so no real loss in ship features or cabins. This time, the reasoning is more opaque and swapping to the smaller ship is skirting on "bait-and-switch" territory.
  4. Depending on date flexibility and port preferences Westerdam has a full Mediterranean season as well. Theoretically you could switch to her if not happy with the accommodation given on Volendam, albeit you would not be price/amenity protected if you did that. Also Nieuw Statendam arrives in Rome in September through early November.
  5. Thanks for posting, Marine Traffic still shows Nieuw Statendam moving toward Portland due to arrive tomorrow.
  6. Hi Kazu, Can you please update our Bon Voyage listing? We have cancelled our Feb 17, 2021 Nieuw Statendam 21 day Southern Caribbean Wayfarer/Seafarer and booked the Jan 12, 2022 Nieuw Statendam 21 day Southern Caribbean Wayfarer/Seafarer as it's replacement. Many thanks! Cathy
  7. We’re traveling vicariously right now. The luggage we left behind on the Amsterdam when we had to get off in Perth on March 23 just made it home last week. It’s been to a number of countries we haven’t on its journey home. Now our FCC is out there in the land of maybe, someday. Basically, we’re on Schrodinger’s cruise.
  8. Thanks for that! Now I have something to look forward to if our March Nieuw Amsterdam cruise gets cancelled.
  9. Thank you for the Daily, Rich. I'll pass on black cat day (leave it to others), cheers to the Navy and storytellers. Love the quote. I'll pass on the dinner suggestion. My alternative is Chilled Mango Gazpacho, Chateaubriand, and Carrot Cake, as served on the Amsterdam October 27, 2017. 11. Aegean Majesty (ex Veendam) is booked 2021 3 times in Lerwick (2 times from Amsterdam coming). Maybe this could be a ship for CVI?
  12. I've loved most places we have visited but some, I think, are so overly-hyped that people have unrealistic expectations. Being from a very rural area, I really do not like cities unless very iconic, due to historical or scenic sights. Just being in a city to experience city vibes--not for me. On our last trip to New York City (for a transatlantic cruise) we arrived at our hotel in downtown about 2 o'clock and left the hotel for the dock about 9 the next day. This was the perfect amount of time in NY for me! (we had been there previously and saw most of the 'sights').
  13. The Fall 2021 to Spring 2022 Caribbean sailings have now been loaded. I'll break it down by ship and itinerary length/name as it's a relatively Mixed Bag. All itineraries are Round Trip Ft. Lauderdale. Many itineraries are available as combination cruises, I have only listed the core individual sailings. Itineraries will be on the HAL website in the next few days, but are currently bookable by travel agents or the HAL call center. 14. Koningsdam (and Nieuw Statendam) have a dedicated desk for Speciality Restaurant Dining reservations. It is on Deck 2 midships, outside Ocean Bar and across from Sel de Mer. This would be the first place to try. There can be a bit of a line on boarding day.
  15. Must only be bookable internally by HAL agents as it does not yest appear in the Travel Agent booking system (POLAR) or on the HAL website. From your statement I'm assuming it's the Rotterdam VII on either a 10 or 11 night Southern Caribbean sailing, which would fit the pattern of them deploying their newest vessel on that route pattern the last few years. FYI - There is no "Nieuw" in the name of the Rotterdam, she is merely Rotterdam (or Rotterdam VII if one wants to be technical). The only ships with "Nieuw" officially in the name are Nieuw Statendam and Nieuw Amsterdam.
  16. October 26 and 27 were sea days on the Amsterdam between our 2 China ports (Tianjin and Shanghai) and not a lot happened so I'll combine them into a single post. Tomorrow I'll go to a different China attraction from an earlier tour. On October 26 the main thing was a 5PM Q&A in the movie theater for guests disembarking in Hong Kong. Present were Captain Eversen, Cruise Director Hamish, Hotel Manager Hank Mensink, and Culinary Operations Manager Florin Dragomir. On my walk October 27 I noted a daily activity on HAL ships, the stewards putting the cushions out o
  17. Fred Olsen paid a lot less for the Rotterdam and Amsterdam - I think I will wait for the "buy one get one free coupon" in my local PennySaver before I pay $50m each for the Zaandam and/or Volendam.
  18. I've spent many day's on both those ships, as well as Amsterdam and Rotterdam, I do not care for the larger ships this just makes me very sad, I have cruises booked on Zaandam.
  19. Today I booked my Dec 2021 cruise to the Southern Caribbean on the ms Nieuw Rotterdam. Itinerary isn't on the website yet but will be shortly. I booked my cruise through the best cruise agent, Catherine Gau, directly at HAL after having to cancel my Nov 2021 cruise.
  20. Nearly right. The photo was taken in the library on the QE in 2012 on a five day cruise to Amsterdam, Zeebrugge and Le Havre.
  21. Thank you for the Daily, Rich. Love mincemeat, sloppy joe not so much. Thank God for the contributions of the deployed, and for my horseless carriage. The quote sounds appropriate for out times. My alternate menu suggestion for today is Minted Melon and Raspberry Soup, Red Curry Coconut Chicken, and Strawberry Crisp, as served on the Amsterdam October 26, 2017. 23. Regarding of where luggage is stored aboard the Amsterdam during the World Cruise, the Club HAL rooms were filled from floor to ceiling on my cruises with guests' luggage. As a WC guest on Dolphin Deck, there was no issue for my Stateroom Steward to get my excess luggage stored.
  24. eureka!!! good news!! the remaining 2 suitcases arrived friday, undamaged, and after exactly 7 months the contents looked ok to my neighbors who opened them for me. thank god its over......hope the other amsterdam guests will get their stuff too, soon.
  25. Thanks for yesterday's birthday wishes! Dinner was great and there is enough prime rib leftovers for tonight. The surprise drink from our son was something that goofy you tube "How to Drink" guy invented. It was supposed to be the spiked punch from the high school dance scene in one of the "Back to the Future" movies. It was 2 oz Guava juice, 0.75 oz Passion Fruit juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 2 oz Early Times Whiskey. You could shake it or just have it on the rocks. It actually was very good! You could use a higher quality whiskey/bourbon but Early Times is what Bif used to spi
