  1. Didn't see a sail away for today's Nieuw Statendam cruise. It's just a short sweet 3 day event, but I'm guessing it will be fun. https://www.ftlauderdalewebcam.com/ https://www.portevergladeswebcam.com/
  2. Could someone please explain the difference between a V and a VD cabin. Many thanks
  3. Hi Everyone, This will be my first cruise with HAL in June on NS. I know that on embarkation that the MDR and Lido are open for lunch. I am wondering what will be my lunch options for the other days on the cruise. Will the MDR be open for lunch every day or just on sea days? Are there any speciality restaurants that will be open for lunch and if so, do you know how much they will cost? Thank you.
  4. We are considering bringing a larger suitcase to share rather than two smaller ones. Wondering if there will be room to slide it under the bed. It is 13.5 inches deep.
  5. review on state room V5053 (1 star) Would appreciate additional information booked it for 20 days - should we relocate ?
  6. Our Signature Sisters are back in Juneau for their second visit of the season. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at the CT dock from 1300-2200 and Eurodam at the AS dock from 1300-2300. Other ships in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. Best HAL day in Juneau of the season so far. There is a 0% chance of rain and there might even be some sun peeking out of the clouds. High temperature will be 66F/19C and a low of 43F/6C. Sunrise is at 4:37 am and sunset at 9:11 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  7. Same itinerary, same price. Which one would you pick? One thing I know is Nieuw Amsterdam has a nice big promenade, right?
  8. We have a stern cabin (5193) on hold for a 24 day itinerary next spring in the Mediterranean on the Nieuw Amsterdam. We have sailed on a number of cruise lines, but never in a Stern cabin. I know that the cabin is lightly larger, and that the Verandah could be significantly larger - both are attributes are very attractive to us. I have read that the view can be pretty spectacular, but how is it to alway see it from the rear, so to speak? I would Very much appreciate some feedback on these cabin locations. I did run the search engine and could not locate numbers nearby (that could be operator error). Is there very much vibration from the engines? How about exhaust fumes? Ship movement ? ( I can be susceptible to that and always take ginger, etc) Advantages vs disadvantages? Thank you

  10. Going on the Nieuw Statendam Feb 10 for the 14 day trip. The ship returns to Lauderdale after 7 days .What happens to the passengers that are continuing for the rest of the cruise? Do you have to leave the ship ? What is the procedure and time frame ? Would it be better to book an excursion while this takes place? This is the first cruise on HAL and we did get the drink package.
  11. Do the standard Veranda cabins have a shower/bathtub or just a shower? Thanks
  12. I haven't seen a roll call for the Ft Lauderdale to Barcelona cruise, April 15-28, 2020, so here we go!

  14. Does anyone know if the balconies between staterooms can be opened on the Nieuw Statendam? Thank you.
  15. I hope the experts can help with this... I am rethinking the cabin we have booked. (after just having a forward higher deck on our recent cruise - whoa!!!) And am seeing a low deck, mid-ship, cabin available. It is on the Main Deck, close to the bottom level of the Atrium. Can anyone give me any insight on what kind of noise/traffic there might be. Music Walk is forward of the Atrium, on Deck 2. Could this be an issue? I am wondering if I should consider one of the new Ocean View cabins that were added to the Nieuw Statendam on the Main Deck. Any thoughts?
  16. Would like to know the different wi-fi packages on board the NS. Only interested in checking emails & don’t need for entire cruise. Thank you!

  22. Nieuw Amsterdam docked in Skagway at abut 0700 this morning to steady rain and chilly. Some hearty souls headed ashore early- we'll wait until eases up as we are here until 2300. Now 1150 and rain has stopped and sun is trying to peek through- should be a nice day. We are at the dock with the bow over main street so easy in and out. NCL behemoth is at the dock at the base of the mountain. Appears there was a big landslide over the winter above the dock. I'll get a picture and post when we head out. I wonder if the Skagway final ship tradition applies to the first ship of the season also 🙂
  23. We'll be sailing on the inaugural voyage of the Nieuw Statendam beginning December 5, 2018. I'll be doing a daily written blog which can be found at http://www.timmer2018europe2.blogspot.com. The blog will become active in the next day or two as we fly to Rome tomorrow. The blog won't have many pictures (generally one or two per day), although there will be lots on the other thread https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2611060-live-from-nieuw-statendam-premier-voyage-december-2018/ and I'll post a few in this thread. As background, we sailed on the last voyage of the old Statendam from Seattle to Singapore and when the name of the new ship was announced we decided to sail the first voyage of the new ship. We also were fortunate to sail on the inaugural (Christening) voyage of the Koningsdam so it will be interesting to compare the two ships. This will also be our first voyage as 5 star Mariners.
  24. We sailed enjoyed the production shows on the Amsterdam in December. Now we are considering the Statendam in Febuary. Would the production shows be the same as the shows we saw on the Amsrerdam?
  25. I am on a 7 day cruise on the Nieuw Statendam. Will be posting videos from time to time. My website has the first one up and running. A video tour of our Verandah Cabin Video Tour for Cabin 7143
