  1. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. The nice weather continues with only a 20% chance of rain and a high of 66F/19C and a low of 49F/9C. Sunrise is at 3:52 am and sunset at 10:09 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  2. Is there any place other than the one forward on Deck 11 where I can get a Cappuccino in the morning. Or can I order it from Room Service? I am on oxygen and that's a long way to go from my cabin on deck 4. I will have the Drinks package, is a cappuccino included in that?
  3. We just booked a last minute trip on NS for this weekend. (My first on HAL!) Despite having a balcony (another first!) I'd like to be on deck for sailaway and watch the Dutch countryside slip away before we head out to sea, and then enjoy the fjords later in the week. I can't tell from looking at the deck plans. Are there any front-facing decks? Do they open the bow? There's always the gym, I suppose. Share your secrets.
  4. New Ship! Few threads and/or reviews! (1) HAL deckplans studiously avoid calling the Crows Nest, the Crows Nest. (It is the Exploration Cafe and the EXC.) Surely they know we will not be dissuaded so easily? It will take a generation to lose the name just like the Captain's Corner! We were on the Zuiderdam this spring, the Crows Nest bar and the Exploration Cafe had merged, which was fine with us as we could segue right from Lattes to Pain Killers! However, the pics on CruiseDeckPlans appear to show only an espresso bar and not a BAR set up. Tell me it is not so, if we drink coffee
  5. Anybody out there on this cruise that can offer a report?
  6. We are booking a cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam and have a cabin question. Does the cabin VB4143 (or VB4145 or VB4149) have a sofa? Any pictures would be appreciated!
  7. This picture was in my email today from Pinterest of former Nieuw Amsterdam in Alang. So sad to see her like this- I have many great memories on that ship. Anyone that posts about vibration on the current Nieuw Amsterdam should have sailed on her predecessor. She gave a new meaning to vibrating- in some places a drink would vibrate off of the table. One of the former CD's called her the "Magic Fingers ship" after the units motels used to have next to the beds. She was a beautiful ship with all of her flaws and lived through many challenges. She will be missed.
  8. Booked for a Nov 2020 10 day Nieuw Statendam cruise and after reviewing HAL's site, it sounds like the typical crew-performed main theater shows we're accustomed to on the Vista-class boats aren't what's going to be on-board the NS. Several things NOT mentioned on HAL's site are comedy, magic, and the Indonesian culture-themed crew shows. Site seems to emphasize only classical music and ballroom dancing type shows? Has anyone sailed her recently that could shed any light on this? I'm fine with classical music and ballroom dancing, but the DW is NOT going to be thrilled with that type of show.
  9. Making their regular Monday visit to Juneau are the Signature Sisters. Both are due in at 1300 with NA leaving the CT dock at 2200 and Eurodam leaving the AS dock at 2300. "Himself" will be on NA. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215, Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200, and Azamara Quest tendering from 1330-2300. Another yucky day in Juneau with a 100% chance of rain. The predicted high is 57F/14C and the low 49F/9C. Sunrise is at 3:51 am and sunset at 10:07 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.
  10. We are on the Nieuw Amsterdam 7 day Alaska out of Vancouver at the end of June. A short 2 weeks from now 😎! It is our first HAL cruise. so of course, I am spending time reading up on all the wisdom from the pros here. Is the coffee on these ships really that bad? And does it matter which boat you are on, or is this system wide? I realize I keep stumbling into many comments here and there in more general HAL reviews about how bad the coffee is. My experience is that coffee quality has a decent margin or error (i.e. most people not big connoisseurs and are fine with mostly what the
  11. Hi, we’re sailing next month to AK. Does anyone who has sailed on NA have thoughts or tips to share on their yoga and fitness classes, paid and/or free? Would you recommend or skip next time? Thank you.
  12. My husband has a severe peanut/shellfish allergy, about which we have already alerted the ship and will follow up once onboard. We are very careful about what he eats when we eat breakfast/lunch and normally we restrict ourselves to set dining in the MDR when we cruise to ensure there are no problems. I am wondering how this issue would be addressed should we want to try the Pinnacle or the Tamarind restaurant. We will be celebrating our anniversary on this cruise and I thought a special dinner would be nice.
  13. I am looking for information as to which days of the week the 2 formal nights take place on the Nieuw Amsterdam during the 7 nt. R/T Alaska journey. Thanks in advance.
  14. Y4L – Alaska, Yukon, Double Denali May 27 – June 8, 2019 Nieuw Amsterdam Ship May 26 - Anchorage Arrived in Anchorage a day before our trip began. It was around 7:00 when we arrived and the Westmark is an easy cab ride from the airport. We checked in and headed across the street to the Glacier Brewhouse for a beer and a small bite before turning in for the evening. May 27 - Anchorage We woke up early as we were still on east coast time. We walked a few blocks to the Snow City Café as we read they had great breakfast food. Arrived a
  15. With an unusual visit to Juneau, Maasdam gives us three HAL ships to watch. Nieuw Amsterdam will be at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300. Maasdam will be tendering from 1400-2300. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. We are back to typical weather in Juneau with a 90% chance of rain (1/4 inch predicted) and a high of only 56F/13C and a low of 52F/11C. Sunrise is at 3:53 am and sunset at 10:02 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https:/
  16. All, My parents have decided that (based upon much of the feedback I got here) they will be on the Nieuw Amsterdam for a Caribbean cruise! Very excited for them... However, I'm not familiar with the ship and wanted some recommendations on VF/VE cabins. I believe VF cabins have the metal (non-see through) balconies, whereas VE has plexiglass (see-through)... Is that correct? I'm thinking they'll be happy on deck 7 with a VE cabin (cabins above and below, so not too much noise). I was thinking cabin 7017 or 7107 (yes, I did have to double-check those since they are so similar in number
  17. Hi all! We're going on a cruise to Norway on the Nieuw Statendam in late July. I love to get up early and swim before heading off for the day. Can anyone who has been on the NS or is on it now tell me when they open the Lido and Seaview pools in the morning? thank you!
  18. Hi. Does anyone have any comments or pictures of the oversized balconies towards the aft on deck 4? VBs I think Please and thank you.
  19. Good evening: A question for those of you familiar with this ship. There is a gray area down from where the Atrium is shown. I am guessing, since this is a bottom level deck, that this might be some mechanical area. It is also where more ocean view cabins show up as available! If this is true, what is the noise factor for the cabins in this part of the ship? Thanks in advance
  20. Here are my impressions of our fabulous time onboard the Nieuw Amsterdam this past week. I will try to add photos as my slow internet allows. We , DH and myself, booked this cruise last year after doing this same exact ship/cruise last May. And the second time around did not disappoint. We live in WA close to the border so AK cruises are easier for us and we normally book late May or June due to work schedules. We have done most of our AK cruises on NCL, Celebrity, and most recently HAL. We have found HAL is a good fit for us - itinerary, price, staff, and food and ente
  21. Eurodam will be at the AS dock from 1300-2300 and Nieuw Amsterdam at the CT dock from 1300-2200. Also in port are Ruby Princess at the FKL dock from 1100-2215 and Solstice at the AJ dock from 1330-2200. There is a 50% chance of rain with the forecast for occasional showers. High will be 58F/14C and the low 47F/8C. Sunrise is at 3:59 am and sunset at 9:54 pm. The PTZtv webcam can be found at https://www.juneauharborwebcam.com/. Next up: Oosterdam on Tuesday.
  22. Hi all! First time posting here on CC. My wife and I are sailing on the Nieuw Statendam this coming December with another couple and wondering if the family cabana in the Retreat is large enough for 4 adults and what the interior configuration is like. Are there 4 lounges inside? Thanks in advance for any info on this.
  23. I am struggling with the search feature for this topic. We are trying to decide if we want to purchase the wine package or just wing it on board. Does anyone have a recent wine/beverage list from the NA they could share? Thanks in advance. Kathy
  24. We enjoyed our stateroom, 6051, on HAL's Nieuw Amsterdam recently during our first Alaskan cruise from May 11th to May 18th, 2019. The category V stateroom on Deck 6 is a balcony stateroom and is adjacent to an accessible stateroom with the larger angled balcony. I made a video about this stateroom for future guests and it's now available on YouTube along with other videos about our cruise. Enjoy! Scott
  25. Does anyone know if there are charging USB ports in the nightstands on the Nieuw Amsterdam? I thought I saw this somewhere but not I'm having a hard time using the search function within the boards. Thanks!
